This is a good location for eye care. They have a caring staff that is always smiling. I ended up being referred to this location because of a specialist they have come in periodically. They have very modern eye testing/mapping equipment and are known for their glaucoma care. They provide call-ahead reminders to ensure you remember your appointments which is very helpful for me. I have had a few times where I showed up and the wait was VERY long but that was due to storm related cancellations. I have also shown up and been in/out in 30 mins. 2:30 appointment, they close at 5 and failed to call in my script 2 and a half hours to make a phone call to call it in and failed to call my pharmacy and now I must wait as the infection in my eye grow worse over night. I'm livid. read more

Koch optical shop on tollgate Warwick has been horrendous. I ordered anti-glare glasses for myself THREE MONTHS AGO . I've called several times and no one has ever answered the phone or returned a message, and so I have to call the main receptionist and ask to speak to someone in optical- only to be told "there's been a delay and hopefully they come in next week". After complaining that I've been told this for several weeks, I went to the office twice. I asked for my prescription and the receptionist said they would call me when ready . Billing called to collect 4 days after appointment treating collection on a charge that was not billed. Waited for over an hour without anyone saying they were backed up!! Lost an hour of pay plus time, these people could careless about your schedule they call me after I walked out an 1:05 minutes later like it's no big deal!! She said oh did you miss your appointment, no I was 15min early over an hour ago. I filed a claim with insurance not to pay these fools as they never provided the service!!! read more

When I say this company is horrible, I truly mean it. They didn't file a claim until 6 months later for contacts I ordered and they should have been fully covered under my insurance (especially since that's what I was told by them when they were ordered) but because they didn't file the claim timely, it was no longer covered because the benefits had since been exhausted. That aside, I was willing to take half the blame as I understood that I should have realized the contacts order was never submitted and used the benefits to purchase glasses. I reached out to their billing office and tried to get some kind of resolution for FIVE months. Initially when I reached out, it was to try to understand what had even happened and why I was getting a bill in the first place. I had to follow up with the office at least 10 times. All of the reps were nice but unable to assist and kept telling me the director (Jackie) needed to assist me further. I left Jackie more than a handful of messages on top of the internal messages that the department was also sending me. She never once called me back. I had no idea what else to do so I started to contact the doctor's office asking for the office manager. Ended up talking to her boss and explaining what happened up until that point (she was very nice) and she got me in touch with the chief operations and compliance office (Ann bina). Oddly enough, I then got a call back from the billing director and she was HORRIBLE. She didn't even apologize for the months of neglected outreach attempts and messages, didn't acknowledge that she fell short of her duties, just gave me an attitude and talked to me like I was some nuisance when I had never even spoke to her before. I was in utter shock by how she handled the convo and how she even has her job. Our conversation ended with her hanging up on me (real professional) and so that was something I had to also update Ann on. While she was nice, she was forgetful of the details I had given her time and time again and I felt like I had to remind her of things each time we spoke. I was grateful she was trying to get some kind of resolution but ultimately failed because she said "they" (not sure who she was referring to) would not be willing to assist with the bill. This company would rather lose a patient and have their company badmouthed than pay half of the bill ($185). Just goes to show how greedy of a company they are. I was forewarned by many not to go here when I was forced to change providers due to my old office no longer accepting my insurance. I really wish I had listened. I'm writing a review about the optical shop. Deb, Deborah or Debbie is terrific! She was friendly, kind, funny, and knowledgeable! Very patient too! She answered any questions or concerns I had! Customer service off the charts! Beth was also there, she answered some questions that I had also. Beth was so nice too! I dealt mostly with Deb, her and Beth seem to have a great work environment! I have been a patient at Koch Eye for over 25 years. 99% of that time, I have purchased my eyewear at Apple Eyewear and had excellent results and customer service. Unfortunately, my recent experience has basically guaranteed that I will never use them again. After a mid-January eye exam, I went to the optical shop on 1/31/23 to order my new lenses. A very nice young man was working the shop by himself on this Friday afternoon, and there was a line. No worries--I ordered new lenses for my glasses and sunglasses, and was told they would be in in two weeks. He also informed me that it was his last day at Koch, and that his supervisor would confirm my order. I received a call mid-February saying that my lenses were in. A few minutes into the conversation, it became clear that only my sunglass lenses had been ordered and they had arrived untinted. The woman on the phone blamed the young man who had been work, and assured me that the correct lenses would be expedited. I reminded her that I had ordered TWO sets of lenses and was assured that all would be taken care of. On March 8th, I received a call saying my lenses were in. I went into the optical shop, where I found only ONE set of lenses (the sunglasses), and they were the wrong prescription. To say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. Once again, I was reassured that the order would be corrected and expedited. I did not receive a call until March 29th. My two sets of lenses were finally in. After expressing my extreme displeasure in how this had been handled (and that clearly, the word expedite has no meaning for them), I was offered a $50 refund on my $787 order (this was after insurance). The optical shop at the Koch Eye Associates Tollgate Road clearly could not have cared less about the inconvenience of this transaction to me. They didn't even apologize when I was able to have the lenses put in my frames. I will not go back. read more

Very disappointed in this $ making establishment. Cost me an extra $169.00 for bifocal progressive because my insurance didn't cover progressive. Picked up the new prescription, and it is wrong!!! I can't see anything at all and too much glare!!! New appointment 12/29/21 to have a new doctor look at glasses, now they are telling me it costs another $69.00 to remove the glare from any glasses you order. Total ripoff as far as I am concerned. I had an appointment with Dr. Fantoni at 3:00. After I arrived, another patient was called in at 3:08. I asked what was happening, and I was told that she was running 30 minutes late. I left and returned after 30 minutes, at which point I was told that she was double-booked (scheduling two patients at the same time). I asked an employee h ow she could see two patients at the same time. He refused to answer the question and left the room. Another employee said he was not going to return and not going to answer my question because he did not like my "tone." Upon speaking with Fantoni, I was told that she has no control over her schedule, as she does not schedule her own appointments; they are scheduled by Koch from MA. She also indicated that she has no control over staff or employees there. I would not recommend the service. read more

I went to Koch Eye associates for an annual eye exam. I recently moved to Rhode Island and needed a physician in my area. I found Dr Santos cold with little to no "bedside manner". It took three weeks to get new contact lenses to try. I had to go for a "fitting appointment" and got new lenses to try. After 6 hours the lenses irritated my eyes and I removed them. I left numerous messages but Dr Santos never called back. When I call again and insisted that he give me another brand of lens to try I was told that I needed to come in for yet ANOTHER appointment. I reported Koch Eye associates to my insurance company and United Health agreed that Koch Eye was "padding " appointments to collect more money from the insurance company. I have switched to anothert eye doctor. I would never recommend Koch Eye Associates and I will never go back to them. read more

My experience today was awful, go to my appointment that they confirmed yesterday to be told they do not take my insurance (VSP)at this location (Greenwich Ave) but I can reschedule for any of the other locations. First I just rescheduled to accommodate my new work schedule and rushed to get there and why would you not tell me this when you confirmed the appointment, second how does every other location take VSP its the same company and same tiny state, so same billing. PLUS I just used my VSP at the same location a few months back to buy glasses....so aggravating... If you have VSP do not go to that location and waste your time. read more

I been a patient of Atwood Vision in Johnston RI which was purchased by Koch Eye Associates for 45+ years. I recently had an eye infection and was called back by Dr. Lewis who is always great to work with. My problem is with Koch operations. I tried to call today to make an appt and had 20 callers on hold in front of me. I waited on hold only to get a call center who didnt really know what to do and transferred me to the Johnston office where he confirmed Dr. Lewis worked at. I spoke to the Johnston office who informed me Dr. Lewis now works in Warwick and transferred me to you guessed it, 17 callers ahead of me. I tried desperately to find a direct number to the office so that i can ask if i should come in for a follow up or wait until my eye is better to schedule my yearly but was unable to get in touch with anyone other than a useless call center. Im not sure who is managing the operations of Koch but you have made what was once a pleasurable, personal experience seem like im calling India and that my business, money and overall my health doesnt matter. read more

I have been a patient for a number of years. Dr. Patti is a professional in every sense of the word. With that said, on the day of my appointment when I walked in the front door there was a woman sitting at the reception area and I couldn't help but notice that she was not friendly at all, short, abrupt and on the cusp of being rude. You would think, the "front" person who you have as a meet and greet person when you go to any type of appointment, they are the face of the company that they're working for. Extremely rude staff over the phone and in person. Needed refill on eye drops. When I picked them up the pharmacist questioned it was a different dosage than usual so I called Koch to check. They said dosage was right and pharmacist was wrong. This went on for 2 weeks back and forth between me the pharmacist and Koch staff. Finally got someone at Koch that said yes it should have been the original dose only to have another call me about 2 hours later to say no it's wrong. Very incompetent. Meanwhile I ran out of drops. When I asked to speak to the doctor it was like talking to a wall and I never got to speak to her. Also they don't take VSP at their Greenwich Ave location? Isn't this all the same practice? That's makes absolutely no sense at all. On another note when I called to make my annual appointment for eye exam I asked for an earlier date. Woman on phone was rude and said well you scheduled it this way so it must be the way your insurance covers it. I asked if she could check that for me and she said no you need to call your insurance yourself. She couldn't be bothered. Great customer service! Their approach to cataract surgery literally resembles the tactics by used car salesmen. I love the fact that they tell everyone that if you insert a specialty lens to correct your vision you won't need glasses again ( maybe for reading). I had astigmatism and could see near perfectly without any corrective vision. Koch replaced my original lenses with toric lenses. Now my right eye can barely see 20/20 distance and my left eye in nearsighted and I need reader glasses for close vision. Let me get this right, I went from single focus glasses to needing progressive lens all of the time. My recommendation is do the cataract surgery if you really need it. Don't waste your time with laser surgery and definitely don't fall for any specialty lens. It is a complete waste of money and most people I spoke that had the same procedure I did are in the same boat as I am which is worse off than when I started read more

I called and asked for an appointment for a medical exam with the ophthalmologist and was sent to Warwick, which is the only place Koch had ophthalmologists (as opposed to optometrists). After the examination, etc., I went to billing and discovered I had been seen by an optometrist, which is not covered by my traditional Medicare. I protested but was told most of my bill would be covered, plus the optometrist seemed capable, so I let it go at that. Probably a scheduler was fuzzy about the differences between the two professions, but when I ask for a medical doctor that is exactly what I want. read more

Had LASIK on 8/14/2020, great experience, I was well informed of what to expect. No surprises. Dr. Gerber was very professional and has good bed side manners. For my follow up the next day I saw Dr. Bae and she was very nice, friendly and sweet. The entire staff at all the locations I have visited for eye exams, purchase glasses and/or contacts have been very nice. Very nice and clean locations, everyone wears a mask and practice social distancing as much as possible. I am glad I had this team for my surgery and my family eye care needs. read more

Just received a bill from 4 years ago where they billed my annual eye exam on my medical insurance leaving me with a $221 bill. Didn't even bother to tell me this at the time of scheduling. Scheduled as an "emergency medical visit" because at the time of booking my scheduled eye exam i let them know i had some eye floaters that i wanted to have looked at. Dr said "yeah those will happen as you age" did my annual exam and charged me for a full medical exam not covered by insurance. Total scam of an office, do not recommend. read more

My wife and I are new patients and had an appointment yesterday at the tollgate rd. with Dr.Scharff very nice though dr . location. The office was very busy. But was not hectic. The employees had it all under control. I had the pleasure of having a very nice young lady named Kim, This young lady was such a pleasure. As well as a breathe of fresh air very personable and held conversation. Made the appointment that much better for myself and my wife. At the reception desk they start rude and only get worse from there, and when the first woman runs out of rudeness, she does not get nicer, she just hands you off to a real pro in rudeness. They refuse to work with you, make a call and argue with patients. My daughter had the same problem with them a few months ago, I thought it was an anomaly but my experience proves it is their normal. I wonder if the Doctors know how bad their receptionists are. Patti Koch is one of the best eye doctors around. Her singsong voice will stay with you for days. Honestly. If Mary Poppin's was an eye doctor, she would be Patti. The office is always clean, has televisions and magazines out front, and the staff is warm and welcoming. You can order your contacts and glasses through this facility, and they have decent prices. As awkward as a trip to an eye doctor can be, with the puffs of air, random drops in you eyes, not being able to distinguish E from B....Patti turns the experience around and makes it a breeze. I have seen a few other doctors at this office, and haven't loved them as much (hence the 4 stars,) but will see them if Patti isn't free. read more

Three strikes and I'm out. Will not come back. I ordinarily don't post bad reviews, but I feel they've made a fool of me over a couple of years. My 1st exam and glasses - glasses were not even close to usable. 2 or 3 people check them, yep, the prescription is right, there's nothing wrong, don't know why I can't see. So I bring my glasses in from the year before- "Make them exactly like this pair". Glasses come in, and they're fine. Dec 2022 I get an exam specifically for reading glasses - I made that very clear. I also asked a couple questions so I could order some online. Then I go downstairs to the optical shop, wait 20 minutes, no one even says hi, so I leave. I then order glasses online - they arrive, not even close. Intentionally messed up by the optometrist? Not hard to believe. I try Koch Optical again - schedule an appointment for the next day. I show up, the girl behind the counter has an "I don't like you" look on her face and attitude. She says I'm not on the books. I'm done. This may look like a professional office, but in 2-3 years of coming here, I know it's more like a clown show. read more

Recently had cataract surgery. Both the office and St. James Surgery Center functions like a well oiled machine. Every employee that I interacted with was knowledgeable, friendly and good at what they do. My only regret is that I never had the opportunity to thank Dr. Richard Sayegh personally for restoring my vision to a level that it had never been before. My distance vision is now 20/20 with no refractive correction and with the standard surgery. Results like that require a very high level of skill. Top notch eye care! read more

I recently had my eye exam and I was very impressed that my new eye doctor took time with the exam and told me why my eyes where itching alot because of dry eye syndrome and she was nice enough to give me free samples of lubricated eye drops . Also I like to thank that nice lady Danielle for taking me right away before seeing the eye doctor she was very polite and so was the receptionist. I recommend this place to friends and family and my mother wants to go. Also, my eyes did change a little bit and I had to pick out my glasses and I really like them. Also, I received a call a week after my eye exam and they told,me my glasses were ready and when I put them on what a big difference I can see alot better. If I if I could give less than one star I would. I made an appointment for a Monday morning, at 3:30 the Friday prior they called to tell me the doctor decided to retire. They didn't offer a different doctor for that same appointment they just said that I needed to reschedule at a later date. However, this experience made me angry, annoyed, disappointed and, feeling the need to state that I cannot believe how far the lack of efficiency, professionalism and commonsense have gotten and, somehow, I feel that we all need to stop it, Not Accept it, and speak loudly against it! We have become complacent and it is our fault that customer service is almost nonexistent because we don't speak up! I shall name no individuals names but will name the place. They answer the phone as Koch Optical Even though the staff at Koch eye Associates have said that they are not affiliated. They're all Fishel name is Partners in Vision. The office I had a problem with is located on Greenwich Avenue in Warwick. I went for my annual exam on October 4 I really like my ophthalmologist and the staff. Upon leaving, the Partners in Vision are located no more than 5 feet away from the front desk of Koch Eye Associates. I went to see them, and gave them my prescription. I was told about a special promotion for two pairs of glasses. Pretty much you pay for one complete repair and only the frames of the second pair. So I deposited half of my total( over 300.00), And they kept my prescription and my telephone number and my email. From my prescription they certainly could tell who my Ophthalmologist was. Not having heard from them, I called in mid November, looking for my glasses and after a while of being on hold, I was told that they could not find the glasses so they employee, said that they probably were not ready. So much time passed with no one calling or emailing I thought my prescription and glasses order had been lost or never completed. This past Monday, my husband who also sees his ophthalmologist at the same location. Went there looking for my glasses or a refund. Do you employee there took over half hour to find the glasses. And said that they had called me several times. Of course, Wildemann looked at the information they had written down and found that my email was correct but my phone number was off by one digit. My husband then proceeded to call me and tell me that they would not refund me my money, the employee stated he had no authority to do that, and the manager of that location was on vacation until the following Wednesday, and that he would try if you had the time, to call the regional manager about it. This is where I became angry, annoyed and on excepting of poor service! Couldn't they have emailed me? Couldn't they have thought, considered, that perhaps they might have the wrong phone number? Couldn't they have walked 5 feet to the Koch Eye Associates front desk, and asked if my phone number was correct or not? Where is the common sense? Where is the customer service? Wednesday morning I got a phone call from the manager of that location proceeded to tell me that prior to making the call to my number, have consulted with the regional manager, and was told that no refund was possible. We have a brief discussion about the lack of common sense and customer service and we hung up. No refund and no glasses. Fifteen minutes later, the manager calls again and offers $100 off the rest of the bill. That's when I got really upset!!! She had just called me to tell me that there would be no offer and 15 minutes later she calls me with I know offer???!!! Was then the manager lying during the first phone call? I responded by saying when I really thought of the whole situation, how unprofessional and how much lack of common sense had been or not been used in handling this matter! Wow! Wow! Wow! I was pretty much summarily dismissed! I know folks long post! Sorry! Hopefully, I may have helped to make you aware of being cautious in doing business with this place. I'm with Brendan H. on this one. Ok, I get it. Managed care and eyewear are a tough match, and it's a cut-throat business, There was a time when I could buy nice stuff on my own. Things are tighter now, but having new job and insurance, I presented what I had. My coverage is through BCBS but out of Atlanta, where my company is based. Koch is listed as a provider in their system. The retail sales person went to great lengths to make sure it wasn't going to happen, saying the coverage is for exams but not eyewear, etc. Ok, it wasn't what she was familiar with, but BCBS was going to pay these folks. Eyewear professionals, time to cut the crap! This has been going on for years (similar to the shops who won't reveal PD measurements). We DO get it but we don't like it. Find a way to make it work, or I will spend my dollars online, rather than with this small-town Rhode Island mentality that continues to cripple the business climate in our state. As a Warwick resident who lives pretty close by, I take a dim view of such business practices in my own backyard, and therefore I am sharing my 2 cents worth, for others who might experience the same. read more

I worked for Dr. Theresa Tretter for 2 weeks in my gap year between undergrad and medical school. She refused to pay me for those two weeks of labor and to this day I have received no compensation for 120 hours of work that I completed for her. This was not in any way an "unpaid internship". We had agreed on a rate of $12/hour when I was hired. After 2 weeks, she told me she would be paying me $9/hour. (I had a bachelor's degree from NYU at the time). I told her that day I was quitting and expected to be paid, but I was never paid. This physician stole from me, and I've been in contact with others to whom she did the exact same thing. She should not be allowed to operate any business in my opinion. I am now a physician and would never expect someone to work for me for free. She was also committing regular insurance fraud, and my 2 weeks of work mostly consisted of dealing with extremely irate patients who were being charged upwards of $3000 for a routine eye exam. read more

I have been going to Koch for quite a few years and staff has made a mess of my records. They have incorrect information and keep scheduling appointments and changing them because the doctors keep leaving. They recently took it upon themselves to change my last appointment 3 times and i ended up with a doctor who doesn't even treat the issue I was there for and questioned my meds. The tech kept asking me why I was there and what each of the meds listed for my eyes were for....seriously??? Anyone there have a clue? Now they leave a message telling me insurance doesn't want to pay and I need to provide a referral or I will have to pay. My insurance doesn't require referrals...sounds like another case of FRAUD if you ask me. Completely disgusted. read more

Do not bother to go here. When Dr. Koch owned the business it was great, it is no longer owned buy him. A group bought it out. As for the girl whom put the drops in my eyes, she put three. Had a migraine for almost a full week. Never had such incompetence there until this time. never had more then one or two. I had said something to her about it in the exam room as well. She did not listen. Never had a bad experience when doc Koch had owned it. It has fallen far sense.
