I purchased a cubic foot of dirt from Gardenville two or three years ago at their annual sale. I purchased many vegetables and fruit trees to plant. I spent $500.00. I kept getting more peach, avacado and plum trees. All my plants started dying. It spread from backyard to front. I phoned Gardenville and told them I think the dirt is no good. She laughed at me and said it was from the Miracle Grow since that is the only other thing I had added. Not true. I have had gardens for my whole life every year. I found out since my whole entire back and front yard is destroyed due to Fusarium Wilt except for grass. I found out it's from old bad soil. And there is no cure. Do not use this nursery. They do not care about your plants once you purchase from their nursery. I have wasted so much time using fungicides over and over which helped for a few days before the disease finalky killed the trees . I have had a vegetable garden every year at my home for 25 years. Gave it 2 stars because they were friendly on the phone and at the point of sale. The interactions with the front office were a pleasure and I doubt the product on the ground is their call. I'm an organic farmer, however, and the compost was terrible. The manure component was still quite green. After my nose cleared up the next day I could smell it easily. It was also cut with a huge amount of gravel and glass that became evident after some road time and settling. I put a photo below. I had planned to come back for 30 more yds but had to find a plan B. Just beware of what you purchase here and bring a nose that is working. Now I have $450 worth of unusable compost I get to find a place for. Again...nice folks...but nice doesn't feed the tomatoes. read more

I rarely post anything negative! I'm gonna have to this time! First time mother had to use this location, a friend of ours owns a landscaping company and says he comes here often...he just forgot to mention...2rude ladies one driving the tractor and the other blonde older woman with glasses at the register. We drive -up there's not very much signage or anything visible informs you how to go about using this facility to drop brush, and online there's not too much information there except what did they provide and location. Mother and I decide to drive to the back and right away forcefully lady pulls -up in her tractor opens her window and just starts going off at my mother tell her you need to do this... and you need to do that!! I pull -up and smile and say good morning she pretty much did the same thing to me we both just brushed it off... No -pun -intended. LOL. Proceed to go inside the office ....were this older lady with glasses is at the register at the same TIME we both said good morning to her...YES she ignored our greeting... And responded with how....can....I......help....you....?!?!? My responded was wow ........everyone's just really rude here and short?!?!? And yes ....aka ... Karen's responded was THANK YOU SO......much with a BIG smile!!! Need I need to see more ?!?!? Aug.17 around 9am... We came to see the Worlds Largest Shovel but was sad to hear it wasn't here and the clerks thought it was at another location as its a "traveling shovel." That's "the last place they heard" where it was. It was written up in the Houston Chronicle so I thought it was a big deal, but it doesn't seem to be if you aren't even sure where it is. The sparse plant selection they have is way overpriced. I can get the same cacti at HEB for half the price. Pots are expensive too. I guess if you want a truckload of dirt then maybe this is the place to come, I don't know. It sure wasn't what we were looking for. read more

We picked a Monday to go to the Garden-Ville nursery and garden center. We had been here once before to buy refined decorative glass for garden walkways. It is a little pricy but I love the way it puts a sparkle to any garden or pathway. This place is set back and hidden from the heavy traffic. I love that they promote organic gardening; something I do as well. The reason I am taking time to do a review is because of the service that I received. We were assisted by a lovely lady by the name of Rebecca. I wanted to give her credit for great customer service. She took time to tell me about what plants to grow in the space I described to her. She cut a clipping and showed me how to get it to root. One can go anywhere to buy plants and hope for the best. But I love it when you can go to a place and get an unexpected surprise; someone taking time to go an extra mile to personalize our experience. So if you look at my profile you'll see I almost never do reviews. The reason for that is if they do a great job I will tip them well and let the manager know and if they do poorly in most instances I figured they had an off day or a bad day and just let it go. Unfortunately that is not the case here. I went to pick up a yard of dirt and was insulted by the female dump truck drivers so horrifically that I will not repeat what was said. Sadly, Garden Ville soils and composts are no longer at all what Mr. Malcolm Beck created that made this brand the go-to for organic gardeners and plants people for many years. Mr. Beck was shoved aside, literally put behind a fence so that he can no longer even see the gardens he created and worked for decades. His wife Delphine is no longer allowed to visit with regular (30+ years) customers and the soils and compost mixes have been severly "corporatized" and do not produce the results that the original formulations provided. The main ingredient was love. When the intent changed, so did the results. The native plants, supposedly Texas natives, often come from California and other states. Corporate buying leads to spreading the quality thin so much so that it's absurd. Shouldn't a local, Central Texas company support local, Central Texas growers? There are many many growers with excellent, natural materials and healthy, organically friends plants... And other nurseries, like rainbow gardens, carry them. And newer, Texas companies are making better soil mixes at better prices. And if you can't find them. Google it and make your own... Sad about the gifts and accessories.. also very cheap and not special or relating to a natural, high quality, lifestyle that has been aluded to in the marketing.. overall not worth the bumpy, dusty, ride to be met by staff completely uninterested in promoting, supporting or even knowledgeable about the core products... Unless it's bulk materials on a large scale, (( and Keller can do better there), you're made to feel as if you are bothering the staff with your insane questions and they'll can you when they have an answer. (Never) I sadly say goodbye to an old friend. I've been buying and recommending these products for many years, and it's like losing a great neighbor. I'll keep the memory of the farming family that sold their compost with their tomatoes. This giant corporation (landfill and waste management) don't need, or deserve, my business. My buddy Tony Northington turned me on to this place years ago and I've been using them for years to help keep my yard green. We were walking around outside for 20 minutes and were never helped, so we went inside to see if we could get help... Nope! Gardenville is close by, and I needed 6cubic yards of soil for a new raised bed. I shopped around and visited several soil sources, and all were reasonably similar. The superior soil seemed to be a viable option, as far as appearing to be well draining and the listed components were adequate. So the first time I attempted to get someone to help me the salesperson (the young lady with the British accent) stood around chatting for 15-20 minutes with someone else. Then to be sure my dump site for the soil would be adequate I showed her pictures, and she was unsure. So she supposedly texted the pics to the delivery guy and would get back to me with his response. I waited for a week and received no contact from gardenville. Now back to this initial visit. My wife picked out a pair of garden gloves for my young daughter, and after the girl scanned them she went on about how small her hands were and wondered if the child size gloves would fit, at which point she decided to try on the pair we were purchasing. It seems she could concern herself with playtime on her own time, and respect the newly acquired property of the customers. So after not hearing back from Gardenville for a week we decided to go back out because the soil did seem to be the best at a somewhat, if slightly higher, comparable price. This time the sale went better, after the counter clerk (different young lady) got someone else to verify that the dump truck load of soil would fit where I wanted it. The soil delivery was set for the following Monday morning. We waited for several hours for the soil that Monday morning so I called and the delivery had been scheduled for the wrong Monday ( a week later). The person I spoke to on the phone blamed this on the young woman who had taken the order. Well they did finally get our soil delivered, and after approximately 4.5 hours I had it in the back yard via wheelbarrow and shovel. Then a few hours after that my vegetables were planted. Now about a month later the plants are mostly yellow with a great deal of leaf drop. I have extensive experience in growing many different varieties of plants including many, many vegetables. This soil is a great let down especially after spending over $400 dollarsfor it. We will not be using Gardenville again. read more

Do not ever use their soil. My dad bought the premium garden soil to start a backyard garden. It is the poorest, most deficient soil I have ever seen. Everything planted in that soil turned pale, yellow, and did not thrive. We had to add three types of natural nitrogen rich fertilizer to get anything to turn green. The pH was way too alkaline, and too much phosphorus. We were extremely disappointed, and will never go there again. read more

Was really disappointed in the new superior soil. The rose soil was great and, really, the only reason we kept coming back. Its replacement was full of clay and huge clods and void of anything nutritious for our garden - it actually just looked like plain old pit dirt. The people behind the desk are generally unfriendly and seemed annoyed by your presence. Won't be shopping there again - especially after visiting the new Keller Materials. They had far superior soil, mulch and service. Might be long past time to up your game gardenville - Kellers gonna take all your business. read more

If I could give a Zero I would. Made the mistake of trying to call to get information or go to their WEB site for information. Web site's number directed me to Texas Disposal Systems everytime I tried calling. When I tried each Garden-Ville number in the phone book, NO ONE EVER BOTHERED TO ANSWER....NOT ONE CALL I MADE! I called the number to TX Disposal Systems and he gave me a local number for Garden-Ville. I dialed it..surprise,.no one answered. On another call to Garden-Ville, I was direct to Garden-Ville's corporate office which is...wait for it...Texas Disposal Systems. Now I am really confused. Is this company Garden-Ville or Texas Disposal Systems? Do you have any employees trained to answer phone calls? I have used Garden-Ville in the past and never had these problems. You must be "under new management" or got bought out by Texas Disposal Systems or something else, which I have no idea what it would be. I live near this nursery and i used to enjoy shopping at this business but my last experience was a disappointment. I had pulled up some Texas Sage bushes and was looking for a place to drop off. When I called I was told to cut off roots. I was not told that you could only drop off to a certain hour which was 4 p.m. So that Thursday afternoon before 5 p.m we headed to Garden-Ville Nursery on Evans Road with our loaded truck. My husband and I tried to talk to the lady into letting us drop off the bushes the lady at the counter said we close that section at 4. I replied when I called no one said that we have to drop off the bushes before 4. We had to turn back around and this was our truck which we drive back and forth to work on a daily basis. She was not a pleasant business lady and it will be the last time I will shop at this place and I will never recommend it to none of my friends or neighbors. I will travel a little more to other nurseries than to shop there. No wonder you see all sorts of trash in this Texas roads. What happen to KEEP TEXAS CLEAN when people that can help won't budge. read more
