They had labels throughout the garden but I hope they consider putting a few map posts someday. Loved the dinosaur statues! And the giant Over-Cup Oak (?). Overall, great experience.

As you walk around the grounds you'll notice there's also many greenhouses containing various houseplants. There's also a large variety of vegetable plants, cactuses, herbs, annuals and perennials. I was amazed by the large variety of trees: peach, apple, avocado, soursop, guava, walnut, pecan....the list goes on! Everyone there was extremely kind and helpful. The price of the plants were very reasonable and they have a loyalty program! You have 7 days a week to go check this place out- you will not regret it!

Going to Shades of Green is like visiting a botanical garden. Lots of shade trees for comfortable browsing during warm San Antonio days. Beside plants they have a lot of cool fountains you can purchase. I have purchased annual vegetables and flowers here for decades. Sad to see them close, but looking forward to their next chapter.

Shades of Green is a little oasis in the middle of San Antonio!…read more This nursery is one of my favorite in the city because of how peaceful and calm it is. They have a huge selection of both indoor and outdoor plants, and they just keep adding more and more selection of plants to their repertoire. If you love indoor plants, you have to check out their greenhouse. It always has a huge selection of plants from all sizes. They also recently opened a section of cacti and succulents which is super cool. I am not really into those plants, but just walking inside that section makes me feel like I am in Arizona or somewhere else. Frankly it is just magical how much one section can change to the next. Also, the service here is always excellent. I've got some amazing recommendations and tips to take care of my plants from the people that work here. In regards to the value, I think their prices are great for a small business. Anyhow, y'all can see I really love this plant nursery and I think it is a must if you are looking for a new plant baby or just want to take in nature.

NOPE. New Earth…read moreadvertised as being organic soil so I chose their garden soil to fill my new garden beds. I got four yards and had it trucked to my home. Not a cheap thing to purchase soil but cheaper than buying bagged. Except.... Fast forward a couple of months and the plants in my beds were doing nothing, yellowing, dying, and definitely not growing. I couldn't figure out why and finally sent off a soil sample to have it tested. Lo and behold, a week later I received the results that the soil had ZERO nitrogen. No wonder all my plants were dying and stunted- they had nothing in the soil to provide the nutrients and energy to grow. I was livid and heartbroken. I called New Earth and was referred to Mike, the area rep. He called me back pretty quickly and offered a full refund or compost. I told him I would consider the two options after I talked to a master gardener. Well, all the gardeners I talked to said to get the refund because of the cost to add amendments to the soil just to get it fertile for growing. So I sent a text to Mike with my receipt, just like he asked and got.... NO RESPONSE. NADA. SILENCE. Guess their soil is as good as their word: crap. And not even that because crap would at least have nutrients to feed the plants. Go to Burning Bush in Helotes, their soil has never done me wrong.

They have all the typical mulch types you find at garden centers at a fraction of the price. At $31/yard (plus taxes) for clean native mulch, you save 36% over bagged retail price. Service is sufficiently fast if they are not busy, but when they are busy you will have to wait a while for a loader to appear. It is good quality mulch. Yes, it is true hat you can get native mulch for free from the city, but an arborist warned me off of that because the city is obligated to take anything placed on the curb, which includes diseased wood and other wood debris that is not healthy for your trees and garden.
