I've lived in the area for about a month and have stopped by the Sno Shack at least 5 times. If those numbers don't tell, I can promise you, I will be by several times more as the summer progresses. Recently moving here from Deep South Texas (Mexican border) I've seen and visited my fair share of Raspa(Mexican Snow cones) stands. Where you get a cup of chippy pieces of small ice with some syrup on it. THIS IS NOT THAT TYPE OF PLACE. This is the pinnacle of sno cones/shaved ice. Sno Shack uses a fine shaved ice that stays soft and, with the addition of one or a few of their many flavors, maintains a smooth constituency from beginning to end. After loosely packing the shaved ice, they add your desired flavored syrups and then stir to assure all the ice is well flavored and maintains its smooth texture. And if you're looking for flavor, if you can dream it up, they will make it. They have other items here but I've never gotten past the wonderful shaved ice treats. Beyond the excellent product is the outstanding management at this "shack". The type of attention I have received has made this shack feel more like a castle. It seems every time I'm here, the manager has insisted I take extra napkins, or extra ice, or a few extra gummy worms for my 2 year old daughter. It's this extra care that makes it so easy to return. This place is awesome! I have been twice and gotten two of the snow cones. They have plenty of syrup so you're not left with just plain ice at the bottom. They even stirred it up to make sure flavor is all the way through! Polar punch is great and reminds me of blue Kool Aid. I also tried another one, I think the name of the flavor was Polynesian Pineapple. It was also great. They're refreshing, a good price, and you get a lot for what you pay! I've been coming here for years! I have lived in Virginia but always stop here while visiting my grandparents in Gardendale. The staff is always so friendly! The snow cones are well priced, and they always put plenty of syrup in them (so you don't end up with plain ice at the bottom). I always get the peach snow cone with cream, which I highly recommend. They seek food and other things as well, but I've always just gotten their snow cones. This is definitely worth a stop if you'd like a sweet treat! read more
