However, we think we were overcharged (or the math didn't really add up) -- our scoop in a cup was $4, and with sprinkles ($1.25, which we thought was also way overpriced), our total should have been just under $6 with tax. However, we were charged $6.28. Not to count our pennies, but we were just a bit shocked that a single scoop with sprinkles was over 6 bucks. Call me crazy but im giving a dessert place only 3 stars. I have been to several ice cream places around Birmingham and Edgewood was a disappointment to me. Both "Bluff Park Ice Cream Shop" and "Big Spoon Creamery" are absolutely jaw droopingly good, and you can really tell they are proud of what they are serving you! I was excited to see that Edgewood had German Chocolate and a Praline flavor. But after digging in, the ice cream was so hard and frozen it was almost inedible. When I finally got the chance to eat it.... It had ice crystals all throughout it. Dont get me wrong, it was still sugary goodness but maybe this was just the wrong day to come. I stopped in here tonight with some fellow Yelpers after a Yelp event. The inside is really cute. The employees were friendly and helpful. One of the gentlemen asked me if I wanted to try anything. I told him I wanted to try the Praline ice cream and it was phenomenal. My only issue is that I should not be eating ice cream this late, but it was so worth the calories I didn't need. I only got one scoop and it was more than enough for me. The ice cream is thick, which is what I prefer. My first time visit has definitely left a good impression on me. Cute ice cream shop! I loved the decor in here! It's in downtown Homewood near Saws on the same side. Staff were really nice. We were able to try a bunch of flavors. I have tried a few different popular ice cream places in the Birmingham area and this is my favorite so far. The shop itself is cute. As soon as you walk in, you can smell freshly baked waffles being made for the waffle cones. They have lots of ice cream flavors. I ended up getting the chocolate chip cookie dough in a waffle cone. The ice cream is delicious and SO creamy. I'm not a big waffle cone person but figured I'd had to try it since they smelled so good. Using 2 x 4's for the tables, benches, and tables. Really creative and makes them stand out (see pics). Awesome staff that is more than willing to give sample after sample until the people you are with can finally decide what they want (really, that wasn't me). They have a total of 40 flavors, and trust me on this one chocolate lovers, you won't be disappointed with the selection that awaits you. It is definitely packed in the afternoons with middle schoolers who've walked over, so beware! There are tons of ice cream flavor options and all of them are delicious! A family favorite of ours is the "Cookie Monster", which is a bright blue tinted ice cream with cookie dough in it. My personal favorite is the key lime pie, although it seems to be a seasonal selection. They also offer cakes other sweet treats, although I haven't tried any of those. I came here around 7pm one night recently. The place was cool, comfortable, the vibe was just as pleasant as the first time I came here. Unfortunately the ice cream I chose, was halfway melted. Complete bummer! I was in the mood for some chocolate, and the Extreme Chocolate caught my eye. I chose it, and as soon as I saw the man scooping it, I wanted to change my mind. I'm not sure if it was because I came in the evening, where it started melting or if it's always supposed to be so soft like this? Considering I came in three hours before the time they actually closed, I would have thought the ice cream should have been more stable in texture. I feel like if I were the worker, I would have thrown out that batch and not even had it as an option for customers, that's how bad the texture was. The flavor was good, that's what is getting two stars. Based on this visit, I would not come back nor recommend any of my friends here. It's odd because there are two creamery's within walking distance of each other in downtown Homewood. I have not been to the other one yet, so I will not attempt to make any types of comparisons between the two. That said, the ice cream here is pretty good. I opted for the pineapple and coconut ice cream. As you would expect, it was quite tasty. It had quite a few pineapple chunks and the ice cream was plenty creamy. My son got a blueberry cheesecake milkshake and it was very nice. My wife got the chocolate raspberry ice cream in a waffle cone. I don't love chocolate, so this was not my favorite. She liked it though. My other son got a cup of cookie dough ice cream. I don't love cookie dough ice cream either, so I can't judge it fairly. The prices are pretty good here & the service was fine. I am health-conscious and LOVE that they carry Only 8 frozen yogurt. It's hard to find. Because I have had it before, I know that the machine can take several minutes to warm up (as they usually don't keep it running). This time, it took especially long but I was visiting with friends and didn't mind the wait. However, the worker gave me my cup for free because of my wait. This ice cream spot is within my top 3 in the city, with Mountain Brook Creamery also being up there. My favorite is in Avondale, which makes all their creams homeade and in-house. You won't get that here, as their creams are ordered from a distributor. But, this is a quaint local shop in Edgewood and you'd hardly know it was there if you weren't already looking for it. The staff is friendly and is happy to let you taste flavors before you go all-in and choose. They stock lots and lots of custom flavors, but my favorite is the with praline ice cream with dulce de leche and roasted pecans. It's the perfect single scoop. My favorite chocolate scoop is at the spot in Avondale. No one does it like they do. All in all, a solid stop for your summer or winter treats. read more

Their ice cream is not made in house, rather, they're ordered from a supplier which is kinda disappointing. For the health conscious, they offer Only 8, which is a low calorie frozen yogurt, a great alternative. However, Only 8 is limited to two flavors at this location. There are a lot of different ice cream options both fruity and creamy. I will say that their creamy ice creams have a significant edge over their fruity ones!
