    Chocolate Caramel Truffle
    Linda R.

We were near Homewood and looking for a place eat some ice cream. We remembered Big Spoon Creamery. I was amazed by the staff. They were helpful, they let me taste three different flavors, they answered all our questions and even checked in afterwards to see what we thought. After my three tastings, I decided on the chocolate caramel truffle. It was delicious especially in a vanilla waffle cone. It had the perfect amount of caramel in every bite. One of my favorite things about Big Spoon's ice cream is the thickness. I learned today it is actually a gelato and that they use eggs. Another thing that was incredible was that they offered free Lactaid for Lactose intolerant customers. What a thoughtful thing to do!! When we parked, my husband remembered that he had forgot to bring his lactaid and had decided he was going to pass on ice cream. Because of the thoughtfulness of Big Spoon, he was able to participate and enjoy a scoop of ice cream.

Dessert first, thoughts later... Pumpkin cookies and cream! Officially one of my favorite flavors! The texture was amazing. Bits of hard and soft cookies mixed into the ice cream. This location has a few parking spots but overall not hard to get too. We got a single scoop in cup and a cookies and cream milkshake for a total of 16.50.

Hands down one of the best ice cream places I have been to. I did not expect it as the exterior of the place looks quite unassuming. But WOW it was quite an experience. Even looking at the menu gets you very interested. They had such unique flavors - flavors you would not have expected or thought to associate with ice cream. I got the Almond Peach Cardamom and Sea Salt Chocolate and it was amazing. The texture was so creamy and just tasted like quality. The chocolate was so smooth and silky, with just the right amount of salt. The almond peach was soo flavorful and at the same time, light and delightful. I could taste the almond and peach at the same time. Again, it was amazing. I tried the Goat Cheese Fig and Sourdough and whoa, it was sooo interesting (in a good way). It was weird to taste cheese in ice cream but it worked! There were so many other flavors I wanted to try but I didn't have the guts to try everything... Loved the way they presented the scoops too. I'll definitely be back!

We usually only come here during date nights.....because, well, it's pricy for what it is. However, we always enjoy it when we come! Their flavors are always unique and we never know what's available until after we walk in. So it's a surprise every time, ha! We always manage to find at least a flavor or two that we like though and they are very patient while you peruse and sample!

Simply the best I've cream shop in bham. Their ingredients are always fresh and vibrant. My all time fav still has to be their cookies and cream... they bake the cookies in house and crumble them into the cream. Tonite I got a half flight with watermelon margarita which was light and refreshing with a hint of basil, the sour cherry valiant which was a nice mix of sweet and tangy, and the red plum buckle cake which was smooth and decadent with pieces of buckle cake which is like a really good cobbler crust. The workers are always helpful and indulge me trying all their new flavors.

Went to big spoon and got a special cinnamon roll with ice cream along with a frozen mimosa! It was incredible! The homemade cinnamon rolls were so soft and delicious! It came with maple butter cream ice cream. Also came with coffee whipped cream which was out standing! The mimosa drink was frozen prosecco with orange and it was fantastic! The place is also so quaint and the workers so helpful!

You can't go wrong with anything at Big Spoon Creamery. There's a variety of flavor combinations to choose from. They even have a few non-dairy options and for those lactose intolerant, they have free lactase tablets available at the counter. Service is swift in their busy environment and the employees are friendly. There is room to dine in or you may take your treat to go and stroll around in the area. You have to add this place for your ice creamery pleasures.

Service is always friendly and welcoming, area is clean and ice cream is delicious and they have plenty of new varieties. I wish they would bring back this milky tea flavor that I can't remember the name of but it was light and so good. London fog maybe or earl?

Located in the Edgewood neighborhood of Homewood is a contemporary ice cream shop serving delicious and unique flavors of ice cream. Free parking directly in front of the store or you can find free public parking lots in walking distance. You can get free samples before you place your order. There are tables and chairs inside if you want to dine in. If you're lactose intolerant and don't want the vegan option, they have complimentary lactaid pills at the register. First time seeing this at an ice cream shop and love it!! There is also case with ice cream sandwiches and pints. After sampling four flavors I decided to order a banana split to go. The bananas are bruleed, and you can choose two scoops of ice cream. It's also served with a pineapple passion fruit compote, graham crumble, and vanilla whipped cream. My split was missing the cherry, but it was totally ok because I'm not a fan of amarena cherries. The dessert was $13.20 with tax. I selected a scoop of arroz con leche ice cream and a scoop of passionfruit chiffon for my banana split. It was so yummy! I wasn't a fan of the pineapple passion fruit compote but the bruleed bananas and the ice cream I selected with the vanilla whip cream was 10/10. Definitely recommend you stop for a cold treat. Smooth velvety texture, unique flavors, good service and the flavors change monthly.

Big Spoon Creamery is one of the best ice cream places in Birmingham, Alabama. The staff is incredible. They are professional, friendly and helpful and quick to offer a few samples to make sure you get exactly what you want (or as close to that as possible). The ambiance is bright and cheerful and you can sit inside or outside. Since it was a chilly December evening, I opted to sit inside. Everything, including the toppings (with the exception of the sprinkles) are made in-house. Their homemade whipped cream is incredible as are their peanut butter cups. And again, all made in-house. I would definitely recommend Big Spoon Creamery and again, I am confident enough to say that it is one of the best Ice cream places in Birmingham, Alabama. I give it five stars.

Amaaaaaaaaaazing!!! Get ready to have your taste buds go into taste overload and have your mind blown! The flavor combinations here are seriously ridiculously fantastic. Let's start with the lemon poppyseed poundcake ice cream. It's creamy, lemony, tart and sweet, and sooooooo good. Then there's the goat cheese strawberry. Extra creamy, sweet and a hint of the mild cheese taste. It will be your favorite. Then there's the honey pistachio and rhubarb rose! OMG! The sad part about this place is that the flavors.change every month! Wonderful! New. Amazing tasty experiences for your mouth. Speed to this place. I can't wait to come back and try their new flavors.

Great ice cream and great seating inside, great flavors -- this place gives a somewhat quirky vibe rather than a classic ice cream parlor. The flavors have obscure names but my friend asked which one was most popular and they recommended the magic city flavor, which was vanilla & chocolate ice cream with caramel, cookie dough, brownie bits, and potato chips. It was great. I loved the fact that they had chocolate flavored waffle cones. The parking situation isn't great but I would definitely come back still!

Big Spoon is a sweet local creamery that has now expanded to 2 locations in Birmingham and now Huntsville. I love the diverse options of icecream that big spoon has to offer, and that they change with what is available in season. And their toppings are so fun! My favorite has to be the sangria icecream with the passion fruit. Highly recommend for anyone visiting Birmingham and looking for a sweet treat.

There wasn't line when we got there but the crowd usually follows us for some reason so by the time we left there was standing room only and a line out the door. The bakery items were very fresh and tasty. I loved the Swedish gingerbread cookies - light and crisp. The lemon bar was delicious. They also have sandwiches that liked really good. Coffee - I got a vanilla latte extra sweet (no lavender) and my daughter said it was one of the best. I thought it was pretty good. I would go again when back in Birmingham!

Nestled in the Mountain Brook area, it's a little hard to see but is right next to Chez Lulu, which I think is a sister restaurant. Parking is a little tricky but manageable. I got there fairly late so the selection was a bit picked over, but I still got a good array of treats to bring home. Service was a touch slow but friendly. They were fairly busy. There's no room to eat inside or outside that I could discern; it's exclusively a take and go type of place. I got two pecan sandies to share with my parents, who were along for the ride, and then a cardamom bun and a peanut butter cookie for later. Sadly, I don't feel like any of the pastries really wowed. The pecan sandies were a little too dry (even as sandies go) and the pecans didn't taste toasted nor were they especially plentiful. The peanut butter cookie was the best thing, though it too was a little on the dry side - nice PB flavor though. I straight up didn't like the cardamom bun. The cardamom flavor was completely overwhelming, to the point it wasn't sweet at all, and instead tasted almost medicinal. The texture was nice but I couldn't finish it. Perhaps I arrived too late to order their specialties. I know they specialize in European goodies so if I return I'll make sure to try a croissant or something similar.
