They have an interesting variety of good quality furniture pieces. We were looking for something to blend with some vintage family oak furniture, and found a pair of Ethan Allen end tables that were just the right dimensions. Paul Olson, the owner/dealer, was very nice and helpful. It was a successful trip and we also enjoyed lunch at Rams Head Tavern.

We laughed at some of the gifts that would make perfect stocking stuffers or gag gifts. Some were quite irreverent and some perfect for that friend who has a "colorful" vocabulary, I was tempted by a lovely miniature fountain in the shop's window. It looked like it came straight out of a New England courtyard. Unfortunately, I just didn't have the right place for it. On a rack of clothing was a gorgeous sweater but was sadly a size small and I'm not a size small (sigh). Our daughter collects miniatures and found an adorable tiny ceramic turtle right away. We bought her as a souvenir of our day. In the back is an area with antiques that I haven't really explored. I know someone like my daughter, who has the stamina, could spend hours browsing in Bearing Gifts. So much to see, so much to enjoy.

Originally built in 1906, the elegant little spot still has the rather charming bars on its windows and the enterprising owners have repurposed the delightful antique vault as the changing room. It's worth stepping inside just to get a look at the old vault door, carefully fixed open so you can see the mechanism and so that it can't close on a hapless shopper. The merchandise is a delightful mixture of true vintage and vintage style, with a matching range of prices so there's a bit of something for everyone. The second floor is the 'lavender shop' with soaps and so on, and a lot of handy but expendable gifting ideas. The third houses the art gallery, with some lovely pieces on view. Five minutes or fifty can easily be spent in the place, depending on if you'd like a quick peek or a lengthy perusal. I myself need to go back when I don't have an impatient sister in tow.

There actually are two stores here; one handles slightly more upscale items for around $25 each. Especially for people perhaps losing weight and in an intermediate size, the price is right!
