Attended a family wedding held at the Garey House on Sunday, 12/22/2024 and just wanted to share my feedback - POV wedding guest. See the photos/videos included in this review of the beautiful Garey House grounds. The Garey House makes a beautiful backdrop for photos. The contrast of the stone, wood, and outdoor lighting is perfection! The wedding ceremony was held outside where there is an outdoor pavilion located right in front of a small pond. The setup was simple, yet so elegant. Just an fyi, during the ceremony that there wasn't any shade coverage for the guests in attendance. Thankfully though, the wedding I attended was held in late December (3pm) so our Texas sun wasn't as hot as it is during summer time and the ceremony was short but sweet. A Flower wall was setup outside as well so guests could take photos in front of it and there was a separate area for sit down eating and small area for dancing. Helpful Tidbits: 1.) parking: Garey House is located within a 525-acre park so upon entering the park, you'll come to a booth where the park employee will give you a parking pass to put on your dashboard & also give directions on getting to Garey House. There is plenty of paved parking located right in front of GH so ladies, don't panic about having to walk a long distance in those high heels (you're welcome;) Hope this info helps! I got married here in April and the staff here was awful. Candice was rude and short with her comments. She said that she would let us know the evening before our wedding to let us know if they were going to use the rain plan and she did not. Once we got to the venue on our wedding date she had already decided that they were going to do the rain plan without talking with us before. Candice sent home the staff before we had even gotten there so they were unable to move the chairs for inside to outside for our ceremony. It didn't even rain that evening so we were even more upset because our guests had to stand during the ceremony. If Candice would have talked with us the evening before our wedding like she said she would and if she would have keep her staff there until we got there we wouldn't have not been so upset. We were both very upset with the way that Candice handed this and will not be recommending this wedding venue to any of our friends or family. read more

I had my wedding at Garey House at the end of March, and it was everything I had hoped it would be. The venue is beautiful, the staff was friendly and quick to answer my emails whenever I had questions, and the price for the venue felt like an excellent value considering how many compliments we got from guests regarding our ceremony and reception. I would recommend this venue to anyone who wants a gorgeous wedding and is willing to be actively involved in creating the wedding of their dreams. It's important to note that while you can rent Garey House for an event like a wedding, Garey House is not an all-inclusive wedding venue. They do not provide catering; they do not provide bartending. They aren't even your primary wedding coordinator. What they are is a gorgeous Tuscan-style home nestled in the center of a large park owned by the city of Georgetown (meaning very official rules and regulations), staffed by people who are tasked with protecting the property and guiding you in making choices that honor the property. They also have tables and chairs onsite that are included, and they will set them up for you in the layout you desire while also working with your wedding coordinator. Honestly, once you wrap your mind around what you're paying for, working with them to make your wedding happen is pretty easy. The one thing that can be difficult is approving a caterer that hasn't already been pre-approved. Because it's city-owned, there are very official pathways that must be navigated in order for someone to serve food on-site, and so if your caterer hasn't worked with them before, then your caterer will have to do scheduled on-site visit with the Garey House team and turn in a lot of paperwork before they can be approved. It might not sound like a lot, but it can be tough if your caterer is a mom & pop style restaurant with not a lot of time off. That said, y'all can thank me for Elsie's Egg Rolls now being approved at Garey House lol. This is getting long, so I'll end with this: If you are looking for a one-stop shop -- the kind of place where you can insert cash and a beautiful wedding pops out -- then look elsewhere. However, if you have a bit of a DIY spirit and want to have your personal touch apparent in all the choices for your wedding, or if you are on a budget and don't want to pay $$$$ for decor and need a venue that is beautiful enough to do most of the heavy lifting, then Garey House is for you. read more

My sister recently got married here. The venue is lovely, but the staff seems really inexperienced with events of this type. As we were packing up the trash, the DJ commented, "that's something the venue usually does." Honestly, that could be the motto for dealing with Garey House. Perhaps the best example was that they initially refused to allow us to use their coat rack for our guests' jackets (on a rainy day)--and then made a fuss about counting the wire dry cleaner hangers and threatening to charge us if any were missing. Bottom line, if you have a lot of family and friends to help with Day-of logistics, experienced vendors you trust who can pick up the slack, this place is lovely. But if you expect the venue to provide what other wedding venues do, this is not the place for you! read more

WE HAD TO SWITCH VENUES 2 WEEKS BEFORE OUR WEDDING!!! THIS WAS SO TERRIBLE TO HAVE TO DO. PLEASE READ TO BOTTOM. When we first visited Garey House, we absolutely loved it and thought it would be perfect for our small outdoor wedding. We later regretted this decision with our whole heart. Prior to COVID there were so many rules, almost too many, but still was worth the added work to get everything done that was asked. COVID came around and we were asked to sign a "COVID Addendum" that was approximately 8 pages long with strict and added rules that went well above what the state or other venues require. We felt forced to comply as we had already booked with Garey House and payments were made. When I asked about these rules I was promptly reminded of the "COVID Addendum which we signed" and then felt backed into a corner by Kerbie as she then threw out words like "postponement" and "Cancelation" for questioning some of these very intense rules. We even asked if we could get the contact info for someone higher up so we could clarify some of these ridiculous regulations. Safety of our loved ones is very important to us, hence the small outdoor wedding. We had our own list of safety measures we wanted to take. I'd like to take a moment to highlight some of these added rules from the "COVID Addendum" and back and forth emails with Kerbie. *Edible cake cannot be on display for viewing. If we do not wear face masks or gloves during cutting of our cake, then only bride and groom can consume. *Hope for a small bridal party and family because only 8 people can be in bridal suite and split up 6 and 2 within suite. Only 4 in the Grooms.(vendors included in these numbers) *Your bridesmaids have to literally stand 6 feet apart from one another during the outdoor ceremony (pretty awkward for photos) *Strict assigned seating for Ceremony that must correlate with the seating for the reception. *per this Addendum, its encouraged to "ask the DJ to remind guests to stay 6 ft apart" while on the dance floor (even outside!!!) *lawn games discouraged and frowned upon. *guests can only drink when at their table; no standing and mingling with food or drink in hand *1/2 page of intense regulation on how you can seat your guests (I wish I had time to write that all out) It was the biggest headache imaginable trying to keep "two or more members of same household adjacent to one another with 2 seats of separation between the individuals who are not members of the same household but are attending together can sit adjacent to one another but with 2 seats of separation on either side, or 3 couples may sit across the table from one another-max 6. If you have individuals attending without dates, 4 may sit at table together". And no, I'm not exaggerating, it was a nightmare. We did our final walk through with Kerbie and when discussing about social distancing, she THREATENED that if our guests are not 6 feet apart or masked or if they are mingling with drinks and not at their assigned seating at the table, that she will get the WILCO Officer to get involved(the Officer that WE PAID FOR in order to open up the BAR!!!!!) if guests are not following these rules!! Then the cherry on top was the back and forth questioning about guests sitting next to this person but they're sitting next to someone not of the same household at the reception and blah blah blah. WE WERE OVER THIS!!! This was the WORST experience EVER!!! There was little to no compassion from Kerbie for what we were going through already planning during COVID..but then all of this stress on top of it! We didn't feel she was understanding or warm not to mention when we asked questions, she just threw the rule book at us and cited regulations/rules. Finally, just 2 weeks before our wedding, we found it was less stressful to switch entirely to a new venue than to stay with Garey House. You know what?! it was the best decision ever. The only sad thing is that we felt robbed of our peace and joy which we started to feel the moment we switched to a different venue and we should have been able to feel this the entire time we were planning. With this entire experience, I feel it is my duty to let others know what this experience was like so you at least are fully aware if you choose this venue. We NEVER would have chosen Garey House had we known we'd go through all of this. So sad that any Bride or Groom would be treated this way. No one needs added stress like this during planning a wedding, especially when you're a covid bride, thats already stressful enough. read more
