Even though they must hear sad sob stories all day lol they show the most compassion and interest making me feel my small town vibe. I sent in on yelp a small summary of what turned out to be my transmission, Shane replied by 6:45am! Fast forward to business he humbly warned and explained all options, when all said and done got me fixed up enough to either drive all the way back home or leave pickup for a potential swap. I am one to be weary and narcissistic about these things and felt abnormally out of character to accept help and input from the man with experience. Garland Transmission is Ripp-Off. Tried to get me to replace my transmission lying about the diagnose. I took my truck in for a diagnosis because I had occasional slipping on my transmission during acceleration and while driving. I took it in on a Thursday and they called me Friday morning with the following diagnoses: Shift tables are very erratic and out of speed causing shuddering. Transmission needs to be replaced. It will have a 3- year warranty and unlimited miles good at any Ford dealer in the county. They quoted me around $6,000 for the repairs. I went to the shop after they called me to give them my warranty paperwork, and they seemed surprised I had warranty. The lady took my information and told me I had to leave the truck because they had to file a claim and then an inspector from the warranty company would approve the repairs. I told her I didn't know had to leave it and she told me to take the truck for the weekend and drop off the following Monday. After I left the shop, they took the estimate down. I dropped the truck off Monday morning, and she called me Tuesday morning and told me that they had done a diagnosis and they found no issues, no codes, and with minor shudder. Way different from the first diagnoses. I told her they had already done a diagnosis and mentioned to her the results they had sent me by text. She told me they had made a mistake and sent me the wrong quote. That was impossible because she went over the first diagnoses with me before I told her I had Endurance warranty. That was all bull. They lied about the diagnoses in the beginning wanting me to replace the transmission knowing very well, it did not have to be replaced. When they found out I had warranty they scrambled and changed the diagnoses telling me they would not be able to get the warranty company to approve replacing the transmission with the minor shuddering. They are not honest people and crooks. People need to get a second opinion or avoid their service completely. Just a WARNING. read more

Went with a coupon for 50.00 and they ended up telling me that that was their other shop, in Creedmoor no less and they are mailing them in New Braunfels with Garland Transmission all over it. The other shop is under a totally different name. They also told me that the price they gave me was already a "special". Here's my short story... and to start off this is my first review ever. In our economy these days I hate to see people taking advantage of other people... 2010 tundra w/ 300k miles and I knew my transmission was going out... hints why I brought it to a transmission shop because I knew what my problem was before taking it to this shop. My truck broke down Monday afternoon just getting it to this shop by 4:55pm. When I dropped it off I requested just a price to repair/ replace, was never told at this time all they do is replace with new. Friday afternoon I finally get a text that my estimate was ready. $7,500... why would you waste your time as well as the customers time to give out estimates like this... not to mention they charged me $150 for a diagnostic to tell me my transmission needs to be replaced. No sh*t Sherlock that's why I brought it to a F***ING transmission shop!! This place is a complete ripoff based on the price they gave me. Transmission from Toyota is $4K and this place wants $5,800 just an absolute joke. Please stay away from this place unless you want them to take advantage of you!!! I should have known better when I saw that they don't work on Saturdays, that tells me they don't have a real work ethic or don't care how long their customers have to wait. BAIT AND SWITCH!!! They told me they couldn't give me a quote without looking at the van, even though I told them my mechanic already told me it "needs to be replaced or rebuilt". I dropped it off and they called me and said "it needs to be rebuilt, the price for that will be roughly $5400". I had already gotten quotes as low as 3100 so I laughed and told them no thanks. Keep in mind, as of the time I picked the van up, their website promises free quotes on repairs. I went to pick it up and he tried to charge me 75 dollars. I explained he told me nothing I didn't already know and the website says free quotes, I'm not paying for this. He explained "the quote is free, the diagnostic is 75". WHAT DIAGNOSTIC?!?!?! I came in knowing exactly what the issue and resolution were I just needed your price, which YOU wouldn't give without looking at it. He told me "if you need the money more than we do just keep it and leave". To which I said I will and started to walk out. He then yelled as I was leaving the shop "yeah, keep your money". This place is a joke. They did not take responsibility when wrecking our car during a test drive. We have had to try and get it resolved ourselves. They misdiagnosed the problem with the vehicle and forced us to still pay for the misstep. As far as transmission go, I wouldn't recommend ANYONE ELSE in New Braunfels but Garland's Automotive. We were referred to them by Precision Alignment and Brake after their guys diagnosed a transfer case issue with my truck for free. We were from 3.5 hours away and the truck started making noises on our way up for vacation (we were leaving Sunday). We walked into Garland's around 11 am (lunch time) and all their guys had left; however, they asked us to come back around 1:00 pm and said they would be happy to look at it (this was on a Friday, keep in mind). We decided in the meantime to take it elsewhere, MKT in New Braunfels. They charged us $100 to tell us what Precision diagnosed for free and to tell me that the fluids in my truck were low, without offering to top us off at an additional cost. Their quote to fix the truck, which they acted like they didn't want to do in the first place was $3480 and wouldn't be ready until well after Wednesday the following week (because the part was coming from Wisconsin). We decided to take the truck back to Garland's at 1:00 pm and they confirmed the transfer case issue and told us that they wouldn't be able to get the part in until Monday but could definitely get it done Monday. The part was coming from an actual Chevrolet dealership in the area. Garland's quote was $2500 for the transfer case and to top all of the fluids off. Everything was smooth with Garland's, no issues whatsoever. These are reputable people running an honest business and we appreciate their work ethic. They never made us feel like we were an inconvenience (considering we walked in around lunchtime on a Friday with a pretty serious issue). read more

The folks at Garland went above and beyond for us. After we discovered a leak and figured out it was in the transmission area almost a year after the work they did, they repaired it at no cost. They stand behind their work, are honest and have integrity. Highly recommend! read more

When I got my Jeep back from Garland Transmission the center console and carpet had not been re-installed properly-they apparently had no quality control evaluation of their work. I asked them to complete the job properly and I would have someone retrieve the Jeep as I had to leave town for work. When I finally returned and looked at the jeep the console was in worse shape than before and I had no time for a third attempt. Bottom line - I've heard good things about Brinkoetter Transmission so I would try them & I would never recommend using Garland Transmission for any work as they don't seem to care about customer satisfaction. read more

They did a full transmission rebuild on my 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 that had 323K on the original transmission. 95K later they are telling me that it needs a full rebuild again. Draw your own conclusions but for me this unacceptable. read more

As far as my experience, I would give these guys two big thumbs up. I was leery because of a bad experience I had with a ripoff company in San Antonio called Sergeant Transmission. Garland transmission, on the other hand, were polite, honest and friendly. Just straight up good guys. They said the diagnostic evaluation would be free. They called me in a day and told me the problem was likely a speed sensor and could be replaced for about $385 dollars. I let them work on it and a day later they called to inform me the car was ready and the price was $125 because they could fix it without replacing the speed sensor. It turns out it was merely disconnected from by the guys at Sergeant Transmission and never put back! I picked up the vehicle and found that all the problems had resolved, they charged me what seemed to be a very reasonable fee, had it done quickly, and showed no indications of trying to replace parts unnecessarily or do work that was not needed even though they could have easily done so and charged me. I was impressed with their integrity and solid fair work. Thank you Garland transmission! read more
