During the sample process, they dropped some chocolate on the counter, so I picked it up. I asked her if she could throw it out or show me to a trashcan and she said hold on. I don't work here. Back in the day, it was not unusual for us to make a 40 minute drive into Hamtramck or Detroit to get a Bon fix, so you can imagine how excited we were as they opened more storefronts across Metro Detroit. We recently discovered the newest location in downtown Birmingham and it is just as cute and the staff was just as friendly as we've come to expect from B3! This is a business that you can feel really good about supporting. Not only is their product top notch, but their practices prioritize quality, sustainability ,community and inclusion. Since the ones I've tried were baked earlier before being transported, they probably weren't the freshest and consequently were soft and not flaky at all. So I wouldn't be surprised if the products at Cannelle Patisserie were significantly more enjoyable due to freshness. But for Golden Wheat at least I agree with another review that the items I've tried here were "not bad but not awesome either". The croissant dough here is chewy, denser, quite sweet, and not the most buttery in flavor (the aftertaste is more buttery). I've probably liked the plain croissant and the zaatar croissant the most. The zaatar croissant I tried had raw dough in the center and the outside was too dry, but the flavor was good and there was a lot of zaatar swirled throughout. I didn't like the other items I tried. The pain au chocolat (aka chocolate croissant) only has one strip of chocolate, as mentioned in other reviews, and it's very soft chocolate, not a high quality bar. The cinnamon roll is on the bready side (think Asian bakery bread but denser and harder) and the filling isn't super cinnamony, but it's also not overly sweet; personally I prefer the ones from Crust. The almond croissant is very soft and flat, but it felt a bit like I was eating raw dough, and texturally the dough and filling felt sort of similar.

Issues: for whatever reason they record your drivers license number on your receipt and in their computer system when you use a credit card. Maybe due to fraud or something else. It is not clearly stated that they record your identification but just they need to see it. I gave the owner my card, he swiped it and the proceeded to scan my driver's license into the register and it saved on the receipt. I immediately asked him to cancel/void the transaction because I didn't want my license number stored anywhere. I paid cash for the purchase, which I should have in the first place. He said the charge didn't go through, but it showed pending on my credit card app. He said to call if it posted. Fast forward 2 weeks later and I'm looking at my account with the charge present. I call immediately and the owner brushed me off with call my credit card company because it's nothing he can do. He stated it wouldn't go through because the transaction wasn't completed and then said he did what he needs to on his end. Customer service is poor and he stays in business because of the vast selection and acceptance of EBT as a payment option. I'd never go back to patronize this business. The response was so nonchalant when I purchased and when I needed the credit card issue resolved. Now I'm disputing the charge with my credit card company. Taking credit cards if you have to maintain personal information in such a manner blows my mind. I don't believe in scamming and I also don't agree with my driver's license number being printed on my receipt and archived the manner that was attempted.
