I can't resist getting a boxful of the wonderful cinnamon cayenne truffles on the rare times I run into Pete at Eastern Market. I've tried his other truffles (which are all far superior to anything you'd get at Godiva or other fancy chocolate shops (and cheaper too!), but the cinnamon cayenne are definitely my faves. Pete also makes several wonderful hot cocoas. Needless to say, the spicy version is a favorite in my household. If you can't find Pete at Eastern Market, I've also found the cocoas at the Shinola stores and at the Pewabic store downtown. read more

A couple weeks later, i saw the truffle booth yet again and this time i decided to splurge a bit and finally sample the homemade chocolate truffles. I recently ventured down to Eastern Market on a Tuesday afternoon, not sure what I was in the mood for. My fiance and I went down looking for inspiration for dinner, but came up short-handed. Luckily, Pete's Chocolate Co. was still around, and I hadn't recalled seeing them down there before. We both tried the Cinnamon Cayenne truffle, and the tiny piece that I did enjoy left that delicious texture that only an excellent truffle leaves. It was perfectly spicy, sweet, and creamy. I was instantly hooked. I would have loved to splurge on more truffles, but I knew that buying more only meant more chocolate in the house... I relished in the Rosemary Sea Salt truffle this morning, which was also perfection. The dense chocolate combined with the hint of rosemary and salt definitely left me craving for more! I have yet to try other truffles by this chocolatier, but I certainly can't wait to indulge again. The two Peanut Butter truffles we purchased are waiting to be consumed while the intended flavors are still present. Definitely check them out. They will surely be around for some time! read more

This is a bit late, but I figured better late than never. I worked with Pete to provide truffles for our wedding favors for my May 2013 wedding. I had been looking for a local chocolatier who could do this for me, and after digging through the internet to find the best, I decided to contact Pete (even though I had yet to try any of the truffles, but having read only good reviews online). Pete was always prompt in getting back to me, was very honest with his prices, and incredibly flexible on flavors. After working out an order (but prior to paying anything), I headed out to Eastern Market to give them a try myself. SO GOOD. The truffles are so delicious, with a great texture and interesting chocolaty flavors. I ordered boxes of 4 for our wedding guests with flavors: rosemary sea salt, cinnamon cayenne, dark chocolate, and white chocolate cardamom. Pete went above and beyond by providing custom inserts describing each flavor, and tying them up in twine in the color of my choice with a custom thank you tag. They were beyond adorable. He even offered to make boxes in more plain flavors for guests who might not like the "exotic" flavors, but I insisted this wouldn't be an issue. There were no issues with ordering, payment, and pick up. Everything was carefully packaged and ready on time. The truffles were a huge hit with my wedding guests. Everyone loved them, and appreciated the support of a local business. I am so happy I went with Pete's Chocolate Co. Pete is just the nicest person to work with, and I'm so glad to hear his business has started to grow! read more

Pete did an amazing job on the chocolates for our wedding. Our guests loved them. He even threw in a jar of his hot chocolate mix for free. My only suggestion is that the cinnamon cayenne is too powdery; you can definitely feel the grainy texture of the cinnamon and/or cayenne added for flavor, which is a bit off-putting. The other chocolates we ordered, though, were amazing! I highly recommend chocolates from Pete's. The ordering processes was super fast and easy, and Pete was very nice. read more

I chatted him up quite a long time ago, at a fair for local businesses and eateries, and it was interesting to hear about the truffle-making process. I picked up a box of 9 for $12 at Eastern Market. The flavors were mostly traditional with the added attraction of others like Coconut Curry and Cinnamon Cayenne. A bit on the pricey side for the size of each truffle, but I'd contest, still worth the money. My favorites being the Cinnamon Cayenne, the Mocha and the Amaretto. Pete's is a nicely decadent taste of some of the finer things in life. read more

I first discovered Pete's chocolate at last years Detroit Holiday food bazaar. The truffles were as memorable as the hot chocolate and the raspberry chocolate mousse. So, yeah, basically I tried everything and it was all pretty fabulous. I've been cyber stalking Pete since then in hopes of being able to get myself more of his chocolate goodness without much success. Then I was blessed by the chocolate fairy. Pete has a booth at the Rust Belt Market. My first Saturday off of work after discovering that fact found me drooling over the display and deciding what to buy. Answer? yep, one of everything. The truffles have a perfectly smooth texture, low melt point and are bursting with flavor. Each truffle is unique and perfect in its own way. I even like the truffles with a white "chocolate" base. (I'm a chocolate snob, it is a white confection, it's not chocolate folks!) I have made and sold my own truffles and chocolates for years. I am extremely picky about chocolates. What a thrill for me when I happened upon Pete selling his chocolates at Eastern Market. I had heard how fabulous they were, but hadn't experienced them first hand for myself.
