I returned to the store and spoke with Ashleigh, the salesclerk that rang up my purchase, and informed her that the item tag indicated $64.99 and I was charged $69.99. She proceeded to return the item and re-ring it for the $64.99 and advised me that the difference would be credited to my card. I told her that this was a scanning error and a cash bonus should be applied. Ashleigh didn't know of the State of Michigan Scanning Law (Shopping Reform and Modernization Act) requiring retailers to offer a bonus "bounty". She said all she could give me was the overcharged amount and Rally House didn't adhere to any other requirements. I insisted the law applied and requested a manager. Ashleigh stated they all follow the same guidance and reluctantly went to find another person to assist. Another staff member came to the register and after I explained the situation gave me a cash bonus of $5.00. Having worked in retailing I understand that employees may not be aware of all State specific retail laws/guidance's and just need additional training. However, my issue was the salesclerks dismissive attitude when I tried to politely explain to her the requirements of the law. Poor Customer Service!

I was told to leave and return with his credit card, no store will help without a credit card (funny, my experience is that many stores don't need the card as it's part of the barcode on the receipt, but ok it's their policy). Still, I'd hoped for a store credit, but I was only offered a refund. My twelve year old son that had accompanied me through this ordeal was left asking me why we treated so poorly. I couldn't answer him. Once home, I gave my husband my gift, told him how we were treated and told him to return it. He took it back, got a refund without issue. I told him to never go back to this or any other Green Apple Hallmark store. I'd rather shop at a drug store for a card, or any other store for a gift than deal with them ever again. I will contact Hallmark about this store, its' employees, this and other experiences. I hope they audit this store.
