This was a perfect spot for a casual lunch and post-race beers on a Sunday afternoon. It's not anything fancy, but they've got a nice selection of beers on tap and the staff are helpful. We ordered the chicken strips with some honey mustard dipping sauce. The waitress picked me some whiskeys and I started fumbling through my attempt to find my favorite... that effort will take some time. The food came and my wife had a bite and stopped and said woah! These aren't normal chicken strips! These are really good! They are tender, and the flavor is awesome. The fries are good too!, she said. We had a good time here watching football. The great thing is that they had the 3 last games! So we can keep track of all teams at the same time. It didn't matter commercials :) What we didn't like that much was the service. This lady with glasses rolled her eyes as soon as I asked for a Club Soda with lemon and salt. I usually explain it so it is easier than it's regular name in some bars: Russian. Anyway, she forgot my crackers and had this rude attitude. Also service was very slow. Garrick's was an absolutely awesome experience. The atmosphere at midday was generally quiet, relaxing, and the place looked great with all of the natural light pouring in through the massive windows. The service was great and the beer knowledge was extensive. Each of the six beers we ordered came in a glass from their perspective breweries which was a great touch. We will be definitely coming back here on our next trip to Victoria. read more

We were in Victoria and decided to try this pub, the restaurant was very good we liked everything that we ordered. Despite this, our server, Jenn, was not friendly whatsoever. I work in the customer service industry so I can appreciate good service when given, and she did not provide it. She was not enthusiastic nor friendly when taking our order and had a aggressive manor as if she did not want to be working there. The only time she was fairly pleasant was when she handed us the check to pay. If you are going to work in the restaurant service industry the point is to enhance customer service, if not work at a fast food restaurant like McDonald's. We were impressed with the food and pub, but Jenn's service was careless and the worst I've ever seen. read more

Basically the perfect spot for an afternoon pint and snack! Huge tables, plenty of space and an excellent beer selection! We even found a peach lager that my mother (a non-beer drinker) loved. On an Alaskan cruise and had a one day stopper in Victoria. Oh my gosh. Adorable city! We travel for craft beer and had heard Garricks Head Pub was the place for a huge selection of Victoria and Canadian brews. The selection was vast. I settled in on a Phillips Brewing Tiger Sharks Pale Ale while my beer partner decided on a Vancouver Island Brew - Broken Islands Hazy IPA. BOTH DELICIOUS! Was on a tour in Victoria when we were getting hungry and looking for a place to eat. It was around 3ish so not really mealtime but we noticed there were quite a few tables full of people and saw a couple walk in so we figured hey, this can't be bad. Sat down and looked at the menu and OMG they have fried pickles!!! I love fried pickles but they're hard to find! So of course we got them and they were great! perfect fried-ness and plated like a structure or monument of some sort. My father went to grab one and toppled the whole thing over though. JENGA!! They have a very decent selection of beer and I got the Vancouver Island Pilsner. Also ordered the Down Under burger which was quite good although I think I was missing the pineapple.... And the fries were absolutely perfect. The server was also very friendly and came to check in on us throughout the meal. We are saying a sad "Farewell" to the old Garrick's Head Pub. It's definitely changed a lot over the years. I remember when they had a menu full of traditional English pub fare. There were no big screen TVs. It was a cozy little tavern that sent you back in time to old, traditional England. Today there are very few of those items left on the menu. If you're hungry, don't fret, there's also a good selection of food since a restaurant is connected with this pub. Anyways only a few hours in canada, I had to get poutine! It was really good, and I paired it up with a cider. Dangerous too because you can't even taste the alcohol in the cider, the name is in my picture (escapes me atm). How I heard of this place: When we arrived at our hotel (The Bedford Regency), we were surprised to see that our stay included two CAD$25 gift cards for food at Garrick's Head Pub. Our first meal would be courtesy of the gift and a short walk around the corner towards the start of Bastion Square. Type of cuisine: "Nestled in Victoria's beautiful and historic Bastion Square, Garrick's Head Pub has been a local fixture since 1867, in the days when Judge Matthew Begbie presided over the local court house. Simply put, we are one of the oldest English pubs in Canada and maintain Victoria's largest selection of craft and import beers on tap. If you're hungry, we offer traditional English pub fare in a bright and relaxing atmosphere. " Ambiance: "Customers are welcome to linger around our wood-burning fireplace to warm away the cool days and nights. As of 2012, our newly expanded front room offers ample space for dining and socializing and in the warmer months, our outdoor patio seating, overlooking the square, is a fantastic spot to enjoy the sun and to watch the crowds go by." Garrick's Head is a great place to grab a beer and a lunch while wandering Victoria. Our waitress was a sweetheart. She was quick to offer beer suggestions, and places around Victoria we might enjoy during our day there. We had the Poutine and French Onion Soup to start -- both were averagely good. The French Onion Soup had a ton of herbs in it compared to others, but it was nonetheless good. The Poutine was like any other I had eaten, but it tasted good with the beer, and I'd order it again if I came back. The Fish and Chips were also average but good. It's a huge portion. Glad that I split it with someone! The fish batter was a little soggy, but not terrible. It's a nice little pub to hit if you're touring the area, but I wouldn't necessarily go out of my way to come here. read more
