I guess it's hit or miss with this place. I bought a used Kia Sedona 7 passenger van with low mileage. On day 2 my check engine light came on and I drove to Garvey Kia which is exactly 57 minutes from my house. For arguments sake let's call it an hour. I arrived to have a service guy named Jeremy meet me. He was the epitome of what customer service should be. His mannerisms and willingness to listen, and explain things clearly were awesome. I'm not sure Garvey knows what they have in this kid. Jeremy was awesome. But alas, they had no appt until the following Tuesday. I left "OK" with it because I understood how the business worked. I came back and they diagnosed the issue. Unfortunately, Jeremy told me they didn't have the part I needed in stock. So I would have to leave and he would call me when the part came in. When I mentioned the total of 4 hours of driving back and forth with still no results, my frustration kicked in a little. When I asked my salesperson if he could maybe help me out with a little gas card he was told by his superior to "get him the hell outta here". I love honest sales people. Bottom line went today, car is fixed, (took an hour long than the 2.5 hours I was quoted. Sales manager Lee understood my point of view. Had a nice gentlemen named Tom take my vehicle to fill my tank (was 44 miles till empty). So in a nut shell. Salesperson Dave was awesome. Service tech Jeremy is a hidden gem they don't know they have, and sales manager lee is a problem solver who seemed to genuinely listen and care. Dave's superior (get him the hell outta here) guy. You're the sole reason you didn't get a 5 star review from me. And everyone there knows who I'm talking about. I don't want to call him out publicly, but he should take a lesson in customer service from the rest of his staff. He may be a superior, but he's certainly no leader read more

Worst service experience in 54 years of driving! We bought a "certified used" Kia Carnival that still had a year of warranty and only 28,000 miles on it. Owned it for a couple weeks when we noticed AC not as cold as expected. The owners manual said when the vehicle is in the "economy" drive mode the AC will be less effective. OK, that makes sense. When it got warmer out we changed the drive mode to normal so the AC would be better. AC was still not very cold. A quick check found the pressure was low on refrigerant system. Added some and AC was great, for about a week. I notified Garvey Kia of the issue and brought it in for service. Garvey service said they found a leak and said the piping to the rear unit was at fault. Damaged. The damage was cited as being up under the vehicle and something must have hit it hard. I did not have any accident in the couple weeks I owned it nor did I go off road with the minivan. Garvey Service said the Kia warranty would not cover it since it was damaged. When I picked up the vehicle I asked for the old parts. Not only did they replace what they said was a damaged piece but two other sections and the distribution box in the rear. Over $2,000! I notified their service department I was paying under protest and would be filing a complaint. One pipe returned had dye from testing around a coupler that appeared to run from the coupler down the pipe. They replaced the suspect pipe and "just to be sure" replaced two more pieces of equipment, at my expense. None of the parts showed evidence of damage, leakage, or faults of any kind even when we pressurized them. I sent a certified letter to Garvey Kia asking for a reply. I have not received anything to date. Currently I have a case complaint with Kia itself and also with NYSDMV. Beware of Garvey Kia Service ! read more

Here we are TWO MONTHS LATER!!!! Had to pay an additional almost $500 for two new back tires and an alignment AFTER I HAD THIS COMPLETED by them in the first place! WHAT A COMPLETE JOKE! You won't find this under my name, KIA. It's my mother's vehicle! Telling her that she knocked her car out of alignment in 2 months! My mother is a cautious driver who avoids potholes and slows down for railroad tracks. I, on the other hand, am a reckless driver. I hit all kinds of potholes, and I don't slow down for railroad tracks, and I take hills like you wouldn't believe. I got my tires elsewhere a month before her and they are still looking brand new! Update 1/19/2024 I called Tom Belden on Monday and told him I was thinking about trading my lease early (approximately 1 1/2 years early lol) to upgrade from a 2022 Sorento to a 2024 Telluride, ended up going in yesterday (Friday) afternoon and finalized this morning/afternoon (Saturday). Again, just as I expected with this team, it was a very straightforward, stress free, pressure free, process working both with Tom as well as Adam Schroeck in finance. This is definitely the dealership to go to if you want an easy car buying experience with personable people. This dealership really does everything they can to not only earn you as a customer but also keep you as one. Unlike other dealerships, they don't play the childish games, they are totally straightforward and don't try to intentionally take advantage of you like some of the other dealerships a little farther south. I drove 45 minutes North to go to this dealership when I could have went to another one only 25-30 minutes away because of the way they treat you here. If you're considering a new or used car, definitely give this dealership a shot, I don't think you'll regret it. read more

Avoid Kia at all costs! When my check engine light came on, I called for a service appointment and was told it would be six weeks. I was told to keep driving, and if the car completely died, I could have it towed to the dealership. I leased a new car through Ramsey Mazda, who bought out my lease. It took six phone calls to the corporate finance department to get a buyout amount, and when it was finally sent, it was incorrect. Two weeks later, I got a letter and a phone call stating the buyout was short $300, and if I didn't pay it immediately, they would return the entire buyout amount to Ramsey Mazda, and the car would revert back to me. Mazda paid the additional $300, yet today, I received another call claiming I owed monthly payments for October and November, even though they cashed Mazda's check. Mazda called them twice, was hung up on twice, and I called twice. They claim it takes 3 - 5 days for the buy-out check to clear their system, even though they cashed on October 20. This company is a nightmare. read more

bought 2 used cars from Garvey Tom is a sweetheart. however, both cars I started having problems with the moment I rolled them off the lost. the first car has issues with then it had a recall on breaks I was told by service department that it should be safe until parts come in. Kia made a recall and couldn't provide parts. needless to say I lost my breaks thankfully I wasn't going fast. second which I got in July and car has been a disaster. on 10/23 went to Kia because car was making a loud noise. just wanted someone to tell me of the car was safe to drive. they told me I could wait but they couldn't promise that someone would be able to check it so I made an appointment the quickest they could get me in was dec 11. in the interim check engine light came on. turns out I was driving around with a bad wheel bearing the check engine light they said they couldn't figure out so they reset it a week later I'm on a long trip and the engine seized up. tried to get a loaner and they don't even have the decency to call back. They don't stand by their used vehicles. I bought a used vehicle from them this fall for $27,000. Upon delivery, and after signing the papers, I was told there was only one key. After much discussion, they simply would not absorb the cost for a second programed key. There was also a stain on the ceiling in the rear of the vehicle. I cleaned it and thought nothing of it. It came came back after a few weeks. I just assumed I did not get it completely the first time, so cleaned it again. After a few months, I finally realized it is a water leak that appears after each rain storm. I normally park inside at night. When I spoke to the service department, I was told that after 30 days, they are not obligated to do anything, and for $120 per hour they would "look at it". read more

Great sales Team, but this review is for the service department. The service Team is very unorganized, I've never had a problem with service at any other dealership in the past until now. After we purchased our used vehicle through Garvey VW, we decided to purchase the extended warranty package along with it. When we returned a couple of months later for a check engine light (covered under warranty) they stated that there was no record of us having a warranty. Even though we had the receipt for the warranty on-hand they refused to honor it until it was in their system. It took them well over a week to get it figured out, and even longer to provide a refund for the service they made us pay for out of pocket. We've had headaches with every subsequent visit there. I would not recommend Garvey VW to anybody who expects clear and honest communication during their service visits. read more

Was hoping that Garvey VW would stand apart from other dealers in the area. Unfortunately they are worse. Recently I purchased a VW, and was looking at options for maintenance/care plans. Turns out, there is an official VW maintenance plan called 'VW Care' which looked to fit my needs. You prepay for the services at a fixed cost, then your regularly scheduled services are covered when you go in at the factory specified intervals. Well two calls yielded no success in getting answers regarding availability (left a message with their finance manager, and received no callback), so I decided it would be best to stop in. Before doing so, since Garvey was over an hour away from where I live, I thought I'd give them a heads up call. Managed to actually get in touch with their finance manager, Martin, who told me that they do indeed sell the VW care maintenance plans and that I could stop in that day to purchase one. Well I get there after an hour plus drive, and the salesman Neil takes me over to see Martin. Martin knows I called, and tells Neil to run over the pricing and details of the plan with me and take me over to the cashier to checkout. Since I had done my homework on the plan, Neil figured out quickly that I knew what was covered on the plan. At that point he told me to follow him to the cashier to checkout. At no point was pricing covered by the salesman. Now VW sets the MSRP on these plans, and they are readily available online. I was feeling some discomfort having not had the pricing brought up, so on our way to the cashier I asked Neil how much the plan would cost. He then stated a price that was over $400 what VW's MSRP was listed as (over a 50% increase). Noting this to Neil, he proceeds to pull the stereotypical salesman tactic of 'hold on, let me talk to someone'. After a few trips back and forth from his desk (to who knows where), Neil comes back with a price that is still over $200 over the VW MSRP. When I proceed to ask whether or not they will honor VW's MSRP, he claims they won't, and that they can't given 'how much of a hassle' these plans are to administer. So I naturally leave very unhappy, having drove way out of my way on a Saturday in hopes that Garvey VW was an upstanding dealership. The kicker is, this 'VW Care' mainatenance plan is a voluntary program for dealers. If they are a pain to administer, they don't have to accept or sell them. But they choose to do so because they can mark them up on unsuspecting customers and take the profit 100% to the bank. Sad. read more

I had a great experience with Shane LaBounty while leasing my new Tiguan. He follows up when you call. He listens to your price needs and doesn't try to sell you on something you can't afford. Most impressively, he was honest when I voiced my concerns about resale value issues following VW's emissions scandal when I was considering buying out my current lease. I never once questioned his credibility or integrity. I genuinely believe that he found the car that was right for me and actually got it to me at a lower price point than I was anticipating. Garvey's Service Dept impresses me. My 2011 Kia Optima SX was purchased new from Garvey, and like most consumers, I didn't expect a very high level of satisfaction from the service department. I was wrong. They have provided a 100% effort on the little (mostly warranty) items and also did the routine maintenance work with a high degree of care, taking the time to explain any details. I'm not the easiest guy in the world to deal with, and they have exceeded my expectations every time: work done right and on time, and car delivered all clean and freshly washed. I've dealt with them for nearly 4 years now, and to date I'm a very satisfied customer. (I don't work for them or have any incentive to write this, other than to compliment their good work.) read more

Horrible customer service. Leased a car from Garvey to tow my boat. Motor blew up, but was covered under warranty. Was given a sub compact car for a rental, because they would not pay for a rental that was even in the same class as mine. This would have been ok if it was a week or so. But I'm now going on 2 months without my car so now I can't use my boat or take my boat on vacation this summer. The worst organization I have ever done business with. I overpaid for my 2012 VW Passat tdi (my fault, should have known better). Service department- best way to describe this department is ZERO INTEGRITY. I can give multiple examples from attempting to charge me for warranty issues covered by VW to trying to sell me on unnecessary oil changes but the best example came when I went to get my "free" inspection. These clowns tried telling me that I needed new brakes to pass inspection. I told them not to do anything on my vehicle and brought it to a legitimate mechanic for a second look and explained my issues. Needless to say my brakes were fine, passed inspection and were still in good condition when the vehicle was sold 30k miles later. Do NOT trust these people. read more

Leased a new Kia for my Daughter. Own 5 vehicles, purchased and leased many cars over the years. By far the worst most unprofessional purchase I have ever had. Bait and switch on vehicle, we test drove and agreed on a vehicle, they claimed at time of purchase that it was moved off site, then it would not start. My daughter was leaving for school the next day, had to have a car that morning. Deal was done or so I thought. Had to lease a more expensive vehicle w higher lease payments, told take it or leave it, wish in retrospect I left it. What a group of shoe salesmen, losers from the top on down. The icing on the cake was an undisclosed termination fee hidden in the lease agreement of $400. The sales "manager", had the nerve to say he never discloses this, after all it is three years from now!!! I wrote two letters the owner, Todd Garvey, no reply have followed up for 6 weeks on the phone. Interesting, you know how the dealerships usually have a follow up from the manufacturer. I never have been contacted, wonder why. Stay away from this poor excuse of a dealership, they are garbage. I am taking further action, all Todd Garvey had to do is reply and say sorry, clearly this is not in his make up. Go to Albany, do business with the fat man, I wish I had. Garvey Kia sucks read more

Recently moved to the area and needed to have a few minor fixes done to my Kia. The only positives about this place are the after hours drop box and online scheduling. I received a call explaining the part I needed was $4.39 and I needed an air filter which would be $45.95 installed. They offered to replace a license plate bulb for $6.31 and $19 in labor. I declined. I show up to pay the bill,which I assumed would be the battery adapter ($4.39) plus the filter ($45.95) and then am told it cost me almost $50 more for labor that was never mentioned. I have been a loyal Kia customer and never complained about other dealers but this one is obviously dishonest with price quotes and were very rude when I asked about it. So, Garvey, you just lost my business. read more

Every time i pick my car up it has a different issue or be noise that it did not have even i dropped it off. Rude and definitely not accommodating in any way! It was a quick and easy decision when they offered me the best interest rate I had ever heard of. They got me an interest rate 1.5% lower than the other dealership I had been to. DO NOT BUY FROM GARVEY VW KIA! The worst dealership I have ever done business with! I have been lied to since I started negotiating with them on a Passat. I traded a truck in on a Passat and the trade was worth more than the car. I was told I would be leaving the dealership financing $30767 including all fees and taxes and I would be leaving the dealership that day with a check for $9000 to make up the difference of my trade. I get there to finalize the deal and somehow I'm now financing $32007 and I can't have the check that day because the owner isn't there to sign it (bull crap). I was then told the check would be over nighted to me in the next business day or 2 which would've been on Monday or Tuesday. Here it is Friday and I have been told it was sent but fed ex (who they use for over night shipments) doesn't seem to have anything for me. We bought a used car for our daughter back in 2008, I still remember the manager at the time name was Kevin ? (something) our salesperson was not the sharpest pencil in there box ( he was from south Carolina I think) and Kevin had got involved and was able to make a satisfactory deal that gave my daughter the car she wanted and me and my wife got it at the price we wanted, well flash forward to November of this year our youngest son is now ready for a car, what a difference 3 1/2 years make, I guess Kevin is no longer with them some guy who looks like Ned Flanders is there now. and wow they have got some zero's working there, they had a Jetta we liked and wanted to drive, the sales person said he'd be back in a minute and took almost 20 minutes, then the car battery was dead and he had to get it jumped, finally we went for a test drive and the guy we had go with us must have been brand new or a really bad liar.... What a obnoxious person,...he tried to tell us the price was already the best he could do and we knew this was bull, we have bought 4 jettas, I asked him what happened to Kevin, although he said he had been with garvey for 4 years he didn't know who we were talking about( weird huh?). By the time we got back My wife had had enough , we told him we had an appointment we needed to get to just to get out!! We did buy a Jetta , but not from Garvey..... the times are certainly changing, worse for some and better for others I guess....moral of the story, don't believe everything you hear, we saved almost $2200 on a car with 10k less miles It pays to check on what your told. If I could give Garvey Kia a negative star rating I would the salesman we met was rude and didn't care what kind of vehicle we wanted, he never asked any questions to our needs or wants and proceeded to bring a small four door FORD to the front door slapped a dealer plate On it and said take it for a test drive because that was what we could get. We told him we were not interested in that vehicle and he told us that no other dealership would be able to help us. About a month ago I took my VW to a valvoline for an oil change. The manager at the valv never replaced or put in the correct parts with the filter. My car was leaking oil all over my garage floor! Yay! I took my car to the service department here and in less than an hour they had everything fixed, oil topped off all for under $20.. super friendly, helpful & honest!
