He asked for my medical history, and as I was telling him, he told me to hurry up. Without knowing half of the my situation he then suggested a drug, I asked what it was, and he told me "not to play scientist" and that if I looked it up I wouldn't want to take it. I asked for a specific test to match a prior one i'd received, he not only wouldn't answer my questions on the new one he was prescribing, but it was a useless test that did not match what I'd requested and I only realized after 6 HOURS of testing in his office. At the end I asked if he could prescribe the other test as well, and he said he doesn't believe in it. This is a widely prescribed test that's been around for years, offered by most GI practices to diagnose SIBO. I don't think he even knows what SIBO is, despite his website stating they treat it. He seemed to only want to treat the symptoms of the condition, with no interest regarding the underlying cause. If you want a respectable doctor who will take the time to listen to you, search for the root of the problem, and even have an open mind to learning when they are uninformed, then Dr. Gupta is not for you. The office itself is also very outdated, with equipment held together with scotch tape, examination tables at least 50 years old with tears throughout, etc. Truly the worst experience I've ever had with a doctor.

So you reach the half-a-century mark and it's time for your very first colonoscopy. (Although they've been pushing to lower the age to 45, I hear.) Everyone from the lady at the front desk to the handful of nurses and technicians were stellar. You're running on fumes (I'll spare you exactly what 'prep day' is all about) and probably cranky and nervous (guilty as charged!) and all of 'this' is very strange so it's nice that everyone was personable, professional, and respectful. I also appreciated that they were sending me texts a day before my scheduled procedure (to make sure I was following all the detailed instructions properly) as well as a text checking on me the day after (to make sure you're doing good). My biggest/only issue: the same it is with almost every doctor for every field out there... their overbooking and zero consideration of how valuable your time is. 10:15 was my scheduled arrival time. I didn't get my name called till 11:45 to start the whole shebang. I'm not sure how you can square that circle. 90 minutes is bordering on ridiculous, let's be honest. (I can't tell you how many times I watched the same handful of stories for News 12 NJ that was playing on the one TV in their lobby.) But... maybe it's the aftereffects of the propofol (your mind will be blown how fast you're knocked out and then it feels like two seconds passed when they're waking you up and you realize they're finished and you're done) but everything else was a positive experience (and I'm tickled pink I don't have to go again for another decade - by then I'll probably forget how horrible all the prepping was) that I'm not docking any stars. (But you've been warned.)

Rude and when you ask if they are running behind - they say a little when you see when you arrive at 10:15 and that is your appointment, there are three others in the waiting room ahead of you. They are really nice people on top of being great Doctors. I wasn't very comfortable when I arrived for my 1st Colonoscopy but the Ladies at the Front quickly made me feel relaxed and glad I came. I wasn't handed a bunch of papers to fill out like some other Medical places do. Everything was nice and seamless and quick but not rushed. The staff were all extremely nice. I explained that I had never received the preparation instructions for the test. Rather than trying to help or find a solution, she immediately focused on telling me that I had opened the patient portal more than 10 days ago. I've never been to a medical office that sends critical test instructions so far in advance of the appointment and assumes patients will remember to go back and review them days later. A simple reminder closer to the appointment would have prevented this situation. Instead of showing empathy or working with me to resolve the issue, she raised her voice, repeatedly told me to "take accountability," and handled the interaction in an extremely confrontational and unprofessional manner. I felt like I was being scolded rather than helped. The entire exchange was unnecessarily uncomfortable and stressful. Customer service, especially in healthcare, should be centered on professionalism, empathy, and problem-solving. Unfortunately, I experienced none of those qualities here. The interaction left me feeling so uncomfortable that I no longer feel safe or confident having my SIBO test performed at this location. I hope the practice invests in customer service and conflict resolution training for its front desk staff, because no patient should be treated this way.

She halfway discharged us and then was calling the patient after us while we were still standing in front of her with questions about the labs and ultrasound.
