I had to have an expansive filling removed and replaced and felt no pain. I keep repeating it because it amazes me so much to not feel pain at the dentist. Dr. Castro was also great about talking through everything that would be done and asking permission about doing things. The office, as a whole, is awesome, with friendly receptionists, kind hygienists, tvs, and comfy chairs. I will never go anywhere else.

After attempting to find a dentist that could help, I went into Michael Sakuda's office, and he took me in without hesitation. Both he and his staff were commendable. But I was immediately at ease with the friendliness and professionalism of the staff and noticed the 'high tech' XRAY process and then some thereafter! As Dr. Hilari worked on my teeth, I was even more at ease as she skillfully proceeded with the processes I came in for. Above this, she first pointed out an area at the base of a tooth where a tiny filling was missing and needed to be replaced. When looking at it with the mirror in hand, that is exactly where I previously questioned about it and let's just leave it at obviously nothing was done. I knew at this point in time she is an awesome dentist! And, imagine how great I felt having something fixed now that I knew previously was an issue for me! There's more! She then pointed out on a front tooth she will fill another tiny area. WHAT? Another situation I was aware of and an issue for me but again, let's just leave it at that. I then told her I could previously feel it with my tongue. There's so much we can feel and detect on our teeth with our tongues; I can. We then had a chat and a good laugh on how common it is for patients to literally point with their tongue at a spot they feel on a tooth and say it's right here! So true! I've done it before. The method of both these 'fixes' was skillful applied coupled with technology of equipment and process which was quite a pleasant experience. The experience here is inconsistent. I have an assigned dentist who is one of the younger sons or…read moregrandsons. When I've seen him, I have had a thorough exam and discussion. However, I never see the same person in sequence for teeth cleaning and when the older doctors come in afterwards, it's really cursory - no jaw exam no tongue exam, one didn't even touch my teeth or look in my mouth. Then they applied resin by almost spraying it on. There was resin on my gums and a thick layer on my teeth with globs between my teeth. They most definitely did not paint it on. It was so gross. I water picked it off after an hour. I think I'm not going back there. The front desk staff is very nice and it is a pleasant office. I know a lot of people in Kailua really like them and they are good community citizens, but this is the third Cleaning visit. I've been disappointed, today was the worst. Maybe it's just my bad timing.

Her friend's son was organizing a Blood Drive in conjunction with the annual Blood Drive that a dentist's office in Kailua sponsors every 4th of July weekend. Hmmm... She knows that I am a regular blood donor. I was scheduled to donate in June, and I juggled my schedule around so that I could support two worthwhile projects at the same time! This event was well organized with live music; free shared parking in the lot next to Jack In The Box on Oneawa Street; and goodie bags for donors! It made me want to participate every year! If you're able to donate blood, please consider signing up for a convenient bloodmobile near you - or at the Dillingham or Young Street locations of the Blood Bank of Hawaii. Thanks to Dr. K.B. Chun and Sons for this fun and useful annual community event! I'm looking forward to participating again next year!
