I am genuinely shocked by the lack of communication at this rheumatology care center. I had an…read moreurgent question about whether to take my injection and called three separate times over the course of one week. Not once did I receive a call back--no guidance, no voicemail, nothing. When you're managing a condition that depends on time-sensitive medications, being left in the dark is absolutely unacceptable. Patients deserve a basic standard of responsiveness, especially for urgent medication questions. I ended up delaying care because I didn't want to risk taking the injection without medical advice. That's not how a specialty clinic should operate. I hope they fix their callback system and establish a clear protocol for urgent messages, but based on my experience, I can't recommend this practice.

I recently stopped coming to this office due to various things, but I found another doctor that has…read morebeen extremely helpful and knowledgeable about my condition. The diagnosis that I received here was wrong, it made sense because I was diagnosed in less than 10 minutes in just one visit. I was given a prescription to help, however I had to stop taking it because it would cause swelling around my eyes. (Another doctor that I saw about my eyes had told me to stop taking the medicine because of the swelling). I always felt rushed at my appointments. I always waited an hour or more which I can understand that it gets busy, but for my appointments to be 5-10 mins long feels like it's a waste. The staff did not feel particularly welcoming. It always felt a bit targeted especially because of the way I was talked to. Even my mom who would come with me to my visits noticed they were never nice to me. My current doctor takes a lot of time to explain everything and my visit is over an hour long. Not to mention, I received a letter that felt almost condescending in a way. The way it was worded was making it seem like I wasted their time, when it felt like they did not even care about their patient in the first place. I always make sure to pay my bills when I visit because I am asked to pay before seeing the doctor anyways. However, I was sent more bills that made no sense because I cannot check in unless I pay the bill, only one of the bills I received made sense because I had COVID so I could not show up. The other dates listed in the bill I knew I had paid for it, but due to the unwelcoming environment of the office, on top of the condescending letter I received, I just paid the bills because I did not want to interact with them again. Sorry for the long review, but I was extremely disappointed with the way things went during my visits here. I would have appreciated a far more careful examination.

Because the break is severe enough to needing surgery, my mom wanted to see an orthopedic specialist asap. The provider referred her to Rothman Orthopedics located at Lankenau Medical Center, which is 1 HOUR AWAY on 3:30pm. HOWEVER, my mom did not leave urgent care until 3PM but supposedly they told my mom that as long as theres an appointment made, it will be okay. We rushed through heavy traffic. I assumed that my mother was aware of the office hours. We made it to Rothman around 4:15pm. The problem is that there were no doctors available because they closed at 4:30PM. Not even on-call. I asked the receptionist if there is anything that they can do. She could have been EMPATHETIC and COMPASSIONATE to our situation. She was so non genuine and I could tell that once its close to closing time, she is mentally done, which is not acceptable. Mind you, my mother is in so much pain holding on to her wrist. The receptionist could have at least said "go to the ED" and/or be EMPATHETIC to our situation rather than looking at us with a blank stare. Even though my mother never saw the doctor in the office, the experience with the receptionist was not acceptable. I would NOT recommend this place if you want to be treated with respect and with care.

When I asked why they can't just tell me on the phone (which is something even my cancer doctor does) she said "talk to your insurance" and scurried out of the room. The front desk staff were very kind and went back to ask Dr. Hale if she would still see me. She refused. I completely understand that physicians have schedules to keep and that patients should make every effort to arrive on time. But I find it incredibly disappointing that there was apparently zero grace for a patient who was 10 minutes late - particularly at an orthopedic practice, where the people coming through the door are often doing so because they are physically in pain. I had taken time out of my day to attend this appointment and was there seeking medical care for an ongoing issue. I wasn't 30 or 45 minutes late. I was 10 minutes late, two of which were spent trying to locate the office within the building. Again, the front desk staff were lovely and I have no complaint whatsoever about how they treated me. But Dr. Hale's refusal to see me over a 10-minute delay left me with a very poor impression of the level of compassion and patient-centered care at this practice. Policies are important, but so are judgment, empathy, and basic human grace-especially when you work with people who are coming to you because they are in pain. I will be seeking orthopedic care elsewhere. And you should too if you value compassionate care.
