Sommelier Tracy hosts this fun filled one hour event beginning at 6:30 PM. Besides the excellent tasting, she'll explain the wine's geographic regions. I love this spot. It's like the costco of charcuterie and wine. The selection is immaculate. From caviar to meats and cheeses I've never heard of. There's samples, a full deli of delicious sandwiches and a massive selection of alcohol. If you're having a party I highly recommend you check it out. read more

I've driven by this Gary's location many times but never stopped in until recently. My friend and I decided to check it out on our way to a nearby BYOB thanks to its convenient location. The store is spacious and has an impressive variety of wine and spirits, making it easy to find something new to try. We picked out a new rosé and were happy with the other items we found. Our checkout experience was great, thanks to Donna, who helped us get set up with their membership. She was friendly and made the process quick and easy. I love going to Gary's because they have an excellent variety of fresh craft beer. You can find local favorites like Brix City, Magnify, Icarus, Hudson Valley, Equilibrium and Seven Tribesmen. But what's most impressive is that they carry Zero Gravity, Fiddlehead, Omnipollo, Aslin, Burlington, Bissel Brothers, Grimm, Finback and Other Half. Give them a try but save me a 4 pack! I was looking for a wine and/or gift basket company for a gift. For some reason, trying to put an idea and gift together online just wasn't working for me. I went to Gary's Wine & Marketplace and was feeling a bit more hopeful. It looked like I could put together a custom basket with a variety of items. Though I could have done it online, there location was only a 6 mile drive so off I went. Every employee I encountered at the store, asked if I needed help, answered questions, and pointed me in the right direction. Much thanks to Laurie (sp?) who helped me put together a gift of champagne, chocolate truffles and a card all nicely packaged and wrapped inside of a chiller bucket. I didn't realize that they are truly a marketplace! Beyond alcoholic beverages of all kinds, there are sweet and savory bites and gourmet treats along with other attractive and trendy products and gifts. As a frequent shoppers of Gary's. We were in the store this Saturday. Something happen that has never happened before. We were looking at wines by the wine tasting table and the gentlemen behind the counter did not offer my wife and I a sample but he had no problem asking a women by herself a sample on any of his wines. I ordered a pre-arrival wine in 2019 with expected arrival of late 2021. The staff supposed to inform me, when the wine arrives and ready for pickup (I paid in advance which is very very normal). I stopped by store in early 2022, was informed, when it arrives we let you know,, even without checking what wine I purchased or my name. Just to get rid of me. In between I emailed the store, the manager of dept. Tom F., replied the same it is not here. In late 2022, the same. In April 2023 stopped by, I was told, we have it (never received a call), but it was handed to me. At the same time I asked if there are any 2005 vintage available, the person at the desk, told me I am not working at this desk but, he showed me the list. He told me, we have many wines that people paid for pre arrival and never picked them up and after 7 years we sell them, I purchased one bottle for $135 from unclaimed list. My concern is, if the pre arrival Dept doesn't reach to the buyers, the buyers may never know, forget and perhaps die before the see their bottles. By far this is great place but I will never buy pre arrivals wine from this store again. This issue requires owners attention and needs to be corrected. God knows how many unclaimed bottles seating in the cellar. read more

HORRIBLE... had an order shipped - ups tried to deliver '3' times and then it goes back - but i was home, so they must have tried to deliver across the street to a vacant house.. afterwards i called and they are re-shipping the order - chatted on monday , after 30mins they said they would email me... no email.... tuesday another chat, and again promised an email, thursday another chat, and once again a promise of an email- no email's - the last person gave me a phone number to call, i left a message... no call back... just left another message which was not so pleasant .. now on another chat... for 15mins - they are checking....DO NOT BUY FROM GARY'S - buy elsewehere even at more $$$ read more

Lush life means I have to be aware of the best emporiums! Gary's is great. I can't wait until things are back to normal and they can do their wine sampling etc. , a little splash before a purchase goes a long way with this gal! Also, unfortunately a lot of the little stores are slightly pricier - nothing to call home about but still makes you wish you drove the extra block to go to Gary's for the same product - and a baguette of course! Stumbled into this place the other day after visiting ski barn. Gary's has it all - a cheese counter, sandwich station, decent prices, and a GREAT selection of everything (including local beers). I would make this my go to local liquor but not for one thing... While all of the employees were masked, which I appreciate now that Omicron is here, customers DO NOT have to wear masks. When I was at the beer fridge, there was an unmasked woman coughing all over the place while trying to have a conversation with me about a local brewery. I would have spent 20 minutes looking at every label, but grabbed one thing and checked out immediately. Hopefully I didn't catch the 'Rona from this encounter, but I guess I'll know in a few days. Good selection of beer, wine, and spirits. I came for their single selection that so many people raved about, but they were pretty tapped (pun intended) out of most beers. I also did not find them to have a huge selection of styles, mainly all IPA singles. Prices were good, maybe I just came at a time where they were re-ordering or something. read more

Excellent inventory and wine selection, but every single time I've placed an online order there's been a mistake. It also takes them almost a week to ship each order, as their inventory is scattered across all of their locations. First, they "forget" to send a $200 bottle of Champagne as part of the order. Next, they send wrong variations on the wine I ordered. They even sent my order of almost $1000 to the wrong address once. My emails to their main email address have gone unanswered, and the phone line is also frequenty closed. Frustrating af. read more

I love all of the Gary's I've been to but the route 23 store is closest to home. Ethan who seems to be the "beer guy" is always so helpful and after meeting him once or twice he knows my palate and recommends stuff he senses I would like. I am a cheese novice and the "cheese guy's who's name escapes me went so far an above reasonable service to help us plan a cheese party. It was amazing to see someone so passionate about their job. Lastly I want to thank the staff for putting together a top 10 on a regular basis and just having a ridiculously good wine selection at all times. They have amazing $10 bottles and of course higher end selections. I love the way they have it all organized and they are the best liquor store around. read more

What a racist store Gary's wine & marketplace is. I come here because of the wide selection of scotches and how nice the store is. The convenience is an added bonus as bottle king is a little out of the way in Wayne nj. My issue here is that there seems to be a problem in how black customers are treated compared to white customers. I have a membership at Gary's Wine & Marketplace and it is the standard that they ask all customers if they are a member at checkout but this is not the case. It has now become more clear that they do not ask black customers if they are a member but whether it is white customers before or after me. The cashiers ask the white people if they are members at checkout. So what makes me so different that they don't ask me if i am a member? I will be taking this to the BBB to get an answer from management because it is not right at all. read more

Very good wine and gourmet shop. As someone who frequents the Wine Library this is the only other place in north Jersey that comes close. Has a large selection of low to mid-high level wines although the higher end is rather small, being about a tenth of the size of Wine Library. Beer selection is better and liquor is about the same. Plenty of glasses and accessories which you can only find in department stores. Excellent gourmet section with a wide array of cheese, cured meats and condiments. They will allow you to sample whatever you like to help make a decision. Prices are inline with other better purveyors and worth the trip. read more

Placed delivery order during Covid and it was scheduled for two days later (earliest available). Never came and when I called they said hopefully tomorrow. They said they were still training and only had 3 vans. Not very apologetic at all. I know this is a tough time but you're offering a service and you took my money. How could there not even be a phone call to say it's not coming on time? Disappointed in this process and frustrated to have waited all day for nothing and not even to get a call. read more

While my husband and I love Gary's for their selection, this review is about their people! My husband and I made a quick stop there to pick up his favorite scotch on the way to Auto Zone to get a new battery for the truck. Low and behold the truck wouldn't start again. Two of your employees (Stephen and unfortunately I cannot remember the name of the lovely woman who helped) came out and jumped our truck for us. RE: Wine Education Seminars with Julie Margolis I've been a long time customer of Gary's for its great selection of wine & other alcohol, as well as the gourmet section. Not only that but also the tastings that can be done at their walk-up bar. Most likely I'll buy at least one of something I've sampled there & the savories throughout the store. Helpful staff every time as well. But tonight I'm leaving a review after attending one of the most dynamic & interesting wine education seminars with Julie Margolis. She makes the class what it is. Anyone can deliver information; she delivers enthusiasm too. I've been coming so long and the class size keeps growing! Always informative, with a map to refer to the region, description of characteristics of each wine. Plus the discount on featured items is extra motivation! 5 stars for Julie. read more

This review is for their online orders. I started ordering from them when they first started their online services. They used to confirm my order and ship them out the next day. In the last year, they have held on to my order claiming they were waiting for missing bottles from their other stores (we are talking about very popular white wines), but there would be no communication from them about the delay. I would have to call numerous times to find out about my order status. They have messed up and delayed my orders over my last 5 orders. I kept on giving them another chance because of their prior "good customer service," but I am done with Gary's because of my last order. They emailed me to let me know my order was ready to be shipped on Wed. When I did not get a tracking number by late Thu afternoon, I emailed and called, with no response from them. I finally called the store itself and they tracked down from their internet division to speak with me. I was told the order was already picked up and it would be delivered on Sat. They clearly lied about it. I didn't get the tracking info until very late Fri night and it shows I will not get it until Mon morning. I think my order would have just sat there if I didn't call on Fri. Feel like I was working too hard in trying to buy wine from them. read more

This is a large liquor and beer store. They have many varieties of wine beer and other alcohols. They also have a large selection of things to eat with beer and wines. I have a large selection of cheese and crackers. also there's a deli section here where you can order meat and even sandwiches. all around the store we noticed many places where you can try out the cheese and records which is extremely important because although some of those were a little more pricey than we would normally buy, we got to taste some things that were very delicious that we now would like to try! Their beer selection in individual bottles and cans is one of the biggest ones around which is great.I would say the only possible drawback is if you wanted to take some cold ones home to drink that night not as many calls in the individuals as there are in sixpacks or cases. The set up of the store is well stocked and well not crowded with merchandise. It is not very entertaining. It's fun to go into a store that always has a more festive atmosphere, as this place is a little more warehouse format than store format. read more

The deli clerk told us not to wait near the counter. He told us to circulate in the store because " there are many attractions to see". No, i am not making this up. Attractions? This is a highway big box liquor store, not a tour of the cathedrals of Vatican City. Save money and go further north on route 23 to Bottle King, where there is a better selection of wine and spirits at lower prices and the staff are not stuffy snobs. read more

While I can't fault Gary's selection of wines, beers, and alcohol related gifts and foods, what absolutely ruins this store is their customer service. Every single time I have visited Gary's, I've found the product I've wanted but have been completely turned off by the employees. One time I visited the store (before I had a Yelp account), I asked to see the Rieslings. Well, not only was my pronunciation corrected loudly in front of everyone around me- and for the record I had pronounced it right- but I was also asked why I would want to buy "cheap German kitchen wine". Wow. Yesterday I went to buy a selection of Pumpkin Ales, and my husband and I brought my young son with us. We were careful about picking up the cheerios he had dropped as we walked through the store, and when I asked the cashier for a garbage she looked her nose down on me and told me she had one but I couldn't use it. I thought she was kidding, but after the transaction was over I still had the cheerios in my hand. She said goodbye and looked at the cheerios and then the door. I am looking for another store where I feel welcome. read more

The only reason I didn't give this place 5 stars was because they told me they had ordered me a beer for pickup and it wasn't there. If you've gone to beer distributors they are mostly disgusting places. It's almost shocking how bad these places can be. Gary's changes that mold completely. I'm reviewing based on the beer selection. It is MASSIVE. They have SO many different styles including 6 packs, 24, singles and big bottles. Also the best prices I've ever seen in a beer distributor. The staff is very knowledgeable and they are open pretty late. If only more places would take a lesson from these guys, they have the liquor/beer store PERFECT. They even do tastings on Thursdays. If only they didn't blow up my mailbox so much that would be nice. They offer a loyalty program that has NO discounts what so ever. I go there sometimes twice a week, it would be nice to have a reward program where that offers discounts Gary! read more
