Gary's has to be my favorite store for all things wine and champagne. Though the location is super convenient I'll often go out of my intended way to stop here. The pricing is just as fantastic as the quality of wines that Gary procures. The staff has always been helpful when we needed a suggestion or two..bonus points if you get to speak with Gary himself! Their beer selection is quite large and they have a fair amount of desirable craft brews. They carry bombers, six packs, cases. I've also found the staff in this section to be pretty helpful and knowledgeable. The liquor section has plenty of spirits to choose from. There are a few brands I wish they would carry but the excellent pricing makes up for it. Let's not forget the deli counter with delicious sandwiches and cheeses, and be sure to browse the specialty crackers, chips and other goodies! Love it! read more

Favorite place to shop for wine! There are wines from all over the world. They always have a deli for meats and cheeses. They also sell some liquor and beer. I wish there was a Gary's Wine near military installations. I would totally shop there all the time. I certainly will continue to shop here when I visit home for leave. read more

From a craft beer and hard liquor perspective, this giant liquor store is underwhelming. While wine is all well and good, I'm all about beer and hard liquor. They do have pretty good craft beer, via rotating heavy-ups on seasonal items, but honestly I expected more. 18 feet of shelf of 22ozz bottles and good six-packs plus assorted other items spread out over two rows - just not enough for me. I'm the type of guy who can walk into a craft beer store and spend $80 if I find good stuff - in the few times I've been here, it's been under $20. It's just not enough quality and selection, and what they do have they have in 2-3 places on the floor and in the cold case. In the liquor segment, I love to look at flavored vodka to see selection. Here again, just not great. Lots of standard vodkas, just flavored options weren't there. Their whiskey selection was good, I just know that for a place this big I'd hope it could meet my needs for hard liquor as well, and it can't. The only reason I'm giving 3 over 2 is that the store is huge, clean, neat, and does have a big wine selection. That's just not what I'm looking for though. read more

This is one of my favorite liquor stores around. I will go out of my way to go here instead of one of the many other places around. Here's why: The staff is always very friendly. More than once I've been approached by staff when I was browsing to see if they could assist me in finding or recommending something. The layout of the store makes it easy to navigate through and there is always something new to check out. Often times they'll have samplings or some other special near the front door. The wine tastings. Hello! I like any place that's going to let me sample before I buy. Besides that, they often have cheese and crackers or chocolate out to sample as well. If you're stuck in traffic on 23 N any time of the day (which is very likely), I highly recommend you stop in and browse around. Gary's Wine & Marketplace has been through an internal reorganization with personnel in regards to beer stocking and sales. A few important things to note: - They will still secure sixtels and kegs for purchase, however, costs appear to be 10$ higher now than before. Looks like they are trying to make things up with higher profit margins. Its still nice that they can get any type of keg though, as long as distributors stock it. - Generally, they used to have slightly cheaper case pricing (a buck or 2 off) when purchasing 2 12-packs. Does not appear to be the case anymore. Bummer. read more

Where do I begin. 2 weeks ago I hosted a welcome back function, and figured what better way to welcome in the summer and everyone back into each other's lives, than a wine tasting. These guys, in particular Chris, killed it. They did an amazing job. They brought 5 different wines, 2 chards, 2 cabs, and a rose, all under 15 dollars for us to sample. Way to go guys. read more

This place has some great deals, I found them online while doing a search for a particular bottle of champagne. I placed the order online thinking I could just pick it up the next day, unfortunately that's not exactly how it works! I guess not all stores have everything in stock, so it can take a couple days to get everything together. I decided to just take a chance and go directly to one of the locations. They had it! As an uneducated and reluctant wine shopper, I have shocked myself by enjoying this place. The best thing about it is the employees. They seem sincerely happy with their jobs. The store reflects their hard work, it is scrupulously clean and visually pleasing. Employees ask if you need assistance without being pushy. I like being left alone, but when I've needed it, they were helpful. Prices are reasonable and their food selection is great. (The clean restrooms are a plus, too). read more

WOW snooty cashier today. She was busy at one station so she called for another cashier. I unloaded my bottles at the second station and after no one came (as usual), she told me to move all my bottles to her station. I asked why cant you check me out over here? She replied in a nasty tone, "because I am HERE!". So I moved all my bottles to the other station. She then COLDLY checked me out. If this is how I am going to be treated from now on I will return to Total Wine and More, (which has slightly lower prices anyway). read more

We were in Wayne doing some car shopping and came across Gary's while on our way home. Being a fan of upscale grocery stores we gave it a try. Great selection of Wine and Liquor as well as the requisite glassware and accessories. They also have a pretty decent beer selection down the far end of the store. They had the two beers that I was looking for (DFH Namaste & Ithica Flower Power) Yay!! Their prices were a little better than what I'm used to paying. I was also able to pickup a nonic pint glass for only $3.50. HalfTime is still top of the list in my book (plus it's closer to home for me) I do wish that they could sell Wine, Liquor and Beer in the same store in NY, but oh well. I would def go back to Gary's if I found myself on Rt. 23 in the future. Bueno!! read more

The TRUMP of wine warehouses This guy is a real shyster. First, no case discounts. But that's OK. I bought a nice wine priced $31. At checkout, the receipt said I saved $8 on the bottle. I asked the cashier about that and he said the wine "really" cost $39 even though the price on the bin was $31. OK. The really slimy thing was that I saw the "25% off (or more) on all 750ml bottles in the store" in an email and posters outside the store. I went back to buy more and the wine was priced $28. If you're not good at math, go there because you will feel great about saving 25%. Others should avoid. Not even Total Wine is that creative with their fake savings. read more

Have only been to the Wayne location once but they appear to have a great selection and prices are fair. They mixed up a phone order and it was a real 'rookie error' - not something I would have expected from a serious wine purveyor, which they seem to be. However, their management really did the right thing in how they corrected the problem so I give them kudos for that. Wasn't impressed by the store personnel on the floor but I guess as some companies grow they lose some control of the details. All in all - good. read more

Let me be clear, Garys has a great selection. Whoever orders their wine does a great job, a little pricey bu the wines are there. Im ok with spending an extra dollar or two for wines that are hard to find. They however seem to think they're the only store in the area. when i go up to the counter with 30 -40 bottles in my cart and they don't ask if im ion their wine club it kinda pisses me off. that's probably occurred 80% of the time. So i have to ask, that is when i remember. If i inquire about a wine that's in the $10-15 range not uncommon to hear "that wines only 1199 we haven't had that in year. You know what Gary's ill take my $20,000/ yr wine budget elsewhere. we're done. Any one of the stores i go to will give me the same 20% markdown on a case off prices that are already lower, and they're happy to order a case of whatever i like. Any store in NJ is able to get wines that are available in NJ. My buddy Julio at Fairway will get whatever i like and stock it in the store. if i want the case i buy it or someone else will. no snooty wine clerks and quite frankly that have a great selection. Theres another great store in Secaucus, and then total wine in River edge. Garys was convenient but they can kiss my ass. read more

Huge inventory of wine and a great little market area with specialty food and cheese items. Anything you can't find they will order for you. This was my first time at a Gary's Wine. I do not drink alcohol so I used my gift card to buy sandwiches. I went here on a Thursday at noon in April. The deli area was clear of any customers. I ordered a Grilled Chicken Pesto sandwich. I was given a choice of bread. I brought the finished product to the cashier and paid. It tasted good but I would characterize the meal as small in quantity. On a June Thursday at noon, I ordered the Prosciutto & Mozzarella sandwich on Ciabatta roll. This is a great wine market. In addition to having a very large selection of wine, beer, and spirits, the employees are very knowledgeable and are always around to help you pick out an amazing wine. Plus, they have a sampling bar where you can ask to sample various types of wine. They also have a decent selection of cheese, crackers, salsa and things like that. read more

As for their wine selection, it's robust and my husband has fell in love with wines from Gary's thanks to their tastings, which are quite often. I found the staff very helpful and knowledgeable. Usually when I go to a big box liquor store they only try to sell me what they need to push, whereas Gary's spends time with me to ensure I get just what I'm looking for. The prices are reasonable and it's a bonus to have the marketplace there with cheeses, meats, crackers, etc. It's a happy place for any wine lover! read more

Got some wine for New Year's Eve by default - HAD to pick them up at Gary's. I knew I shouldn't have but I was rushing to go to a dinner party and the family asked me to pick them up. I picked up a case of wine and by the time I got to the party one of the RED bottles had broken! Gary's didn't put any dividers between the bottles when they packed them! My car was a mess and I was embarrassed! The other wines were all sticky and covered with red wine, so I ran to a liquor store in Millburn and forked over the money to replace the wines! I'm sure the family would never have asked me to, but there was NO WAY that I was showing up to their New Year's eve party with wine covered wine! Shame on you Gary's! read more

TERRIBLE customer service. I recently ordered 6 bottles of wine from the online store but was sent 12 bottles of wine instead. I promptly called customer service to alert them of this error and a rude sales associate (who made me feel as if I was bothering her) informed me that they would send a box & mailing label for the return. I received the box but no return label! I called Gary's again and was met with yet another rude sales associate. Having had enough of her rude attitude, I pointed out that I had not once been thanked for calling nor had I been offered an apology for the inconvenience I incurred. The sales lady asked condescendingly, "What inconvenience? You put the wine in the box and close the box." Unbelievable. I had to lug the extra bottles up to my apt, make numerous phone calls to rectify THEIR MISTAKE and then lug the bottles BACK down and to the post office. WHAT INCONVENIENCE? ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Needless to say, I will never order from Gary's again... Instead I will continue to patronize other more professional sites such as WTSO.com. I can see why people prefer to deal with bigger operations - you get more professionalism and better customer service. LESSON LEARNED. read more

We got our rehearsal dinner and wedding reception wines, liquor, and beer from Gary's and it was a fantastic experience! The wines recommended by the assistant manager Jonathan were great. He just knew what to do and got things done competently, unlike some other vendors. Wines were delivered to 2 different locations with no problem (with $100 minimum to each place). The reception restaurant had our whites and beers perfectly chilled. Their prices were also very reasonable. The only minor thing is the delivery time was several hours earlier than told, but we happened to be home, so that worked out fine. read more

Fantastic selection of wine of course, but also a pretty good beer selection. The wines are varied and of high quality, and the staff can help pick out good ones. The wine and meat samples are also a nice touch. My favorite part though is the beer where they have a nice selection of craft and some rarer beer like trappists and lambecs. read more
