My first experience with Total Wines was over in West Orange. Then I started to cheat on West Orange with their River Edge location. Now, once again, I find myself straying... sorry River Edge but Totowa's making me weak in the knees. Lots of aisles. Lots of product on those shelves. Lots of space between the rows so you and your fellow shoppers aren't at risk of bumping into each other with your carts. If you've been to a Total Wines before - you know how it goes... they're usually the size of an old Toys R Us but aimed at adults looking to waste, I mean spend, money on booze (or cigars, which seem to have a serious fanbase the few times I've been here). I've found some new/unique imported beers as well as a few interesting organic wines at this location that I never saw at their other stores. Rude cashier who was very rude while handling our beverages in the checkout. If you look in my previous reviews, I never ask to talk to the manager. I spoke with a manager named Melissa and I don't want to be negative, so I'll just say she did not seem to take the issue seriously. I would not have made this review, because the cashier could just be having a bad day and it's okay not to like me. But a bad manager needs feedback for the good of the store and to do better for future customers. This isn't mentioning that we ended up switching lines to this rude cashier because the other cashier didn't let us know that she was waiting for a customer to return to pay while his family held up the line. This is not abnormal, but I do regret switching lines, but I regret visiting here more. I will say that the people in the store that asked if I needed help were very nice. And the gentleman in central customer service area was quick to help when I asked for a manager. Perhaps some of them deserve a promotion. They have a very wide selection, but I find the prices to be just a little higher than other big beverage stores in the area. Especially this other chain that is a barn full of good service and cheaper prices for the items I get. This is the first Total Wine that I've found such casual rudeness and divisiveness. Cheers to the brand new Total Wine & More Store that just opened up over here in Totowa. This place has got aisles and aisles jam packed Full of Booze and Booze related merchandise. And with the Holiday Season right around the corner You Know I'll be stocking up on Quality Rum for my Coquito. Not to brag or nothing but just for the record my Coquito is THE Best you're ever going try, I actually have a waiting list that grows and grows every year, no joke.    They sell in volume here too so I'm not gonna have to pay an arm and a leg just to get a hold of some decent Liquor which especially in Today's economic shituation means ALOT.    Anyhow I gotta get back to business I'm next in line at the checkout people... I am a regular customer and called the store directly early December to reserve a mini keg of Guinness for Christmas eve. The person I spoke with took my information, quoted me a price and I confirmed a pickup time. Today, when I went to the store, one of the "Managers" told me they do not "reserve" mini kegs and did not have one available. I re-counted my order and instead of apologizing for the confusion and not having one (clearly now ruining Xmas drink plans), he just kept asking me who I spoke with and telling me they don't reserve orders like that. When I asked if he can call another store, he was shocked and repeated what I asked, and offered no help. I understand the mix-up is not his fault but any Manager should know better customer service. I didn't know that I needed to ask for the name of the person as proof but i sure do now - and wont order again from them. That put a real damper on our xmas eve dinner plans. Super disappointed in the store mix up and even more so for the poor customer service by the Manager. read more

Store was great when it opened!! Everything was stocked! Now I've been there at least 6 times where the big cooler was broken and had nothing cold. 3 times!!!! Atleast 3 times the cooler was just barely coolers than the store itsel! So just remembe, if you want something cold and ready to drink, go someplace else.I now go to ShopRite liquors in little falls. Basically same price but cold and stocked. read more

Total wine is a total waste of time. We went in looking to purchase a case+ of wine to give out for the holidays. They only had a few bottles in the display but when we asked they said they had more inventory, they just had to find it. A sales person took the time to get a ladder and start to go through the many boxes located on the shelves above the display. There doesn't seem to be any system to how they store their inventory. 20 minutes later the guy still couldn't locate the wine. But I do appreciate him trying. So we wind up getting an assortment if wines instead. Next I go looking for my favorite vodka. They don't have it. A salesperson suggest i go to the customer service desk. There is no one there so im standing there for 10 minutes before someone notices and goes and finds the lady who works at the desk. She comes over, looks up the item, they don't carry it. Strike two. We go to pay on line, we ask for the free gift bags liquor stores traditional give out during the holidays. They don't have them. Strike three. We need a box to put our loose case of wines in, we are directed to go find a box ourselves out of the limited pile of empty boxes they have. None are for wine sized bottles. Strike four. We are charged full price for the mixed case of wine, no discounts. We will be going back to Garys in Wayne and/or Shoprite liquors in Pompton Lakes read more

We stopped by here today to pick up some alcohol for a trip we are going on. We found everything we needed, and we've come to this location plenty of times since it opened along with other locations, but we definitely won't be coming back to this location and might not go back to other locations. Like I said, we got everything we needed, but when we got up to the cash register which had its open light on and standing there with a cart full of items and, next to be rung up, the cashier told us she was closing. Why couldn't she tell us this when I first got on the line that she was closing? The proper thing would've been to shut off the light and finish your line and then tell people that are trying to get on the line that you are closed. Don't have us stand there like idiots waiting to be rung up and then tell us you're closed when we were already on your line and your open light was on. I was so furious that I wanted to leave the cart and walk out empty-handed, but my wife said to just buy the items and not worry about it. Poor customer service! read more

The location in Totowa was very helpful over the phone. I was searching for a Rabbit brand automatic electric wine bottle opener. They had the model that I wanted and told me in what aisle it would be located. A visit to the store and quick in and out kept me rolling, happily with opener in hand. Every time I order alcohol from this store they never process it quickly and it takes a week or more for them to just ship it out. This is the second time this has happened. I have to call the customer service number and file a formal complaint against the store because they do not ship out the alcohol I ordered. The order just does not get processed and no one calls to tell you why. Website says orders will be filled in one to two days. I do not understand stores like this. Don't they have a General Manager or Regional Manager to make sure things like this do not happen and that someone gets fired if they do not do their job? read more
