A friend and I visited Gary's to get a taste of local food while on a trip to Atlantic City. The food was delicious! I had the seafood omelette, which was well seasoned and filled with crab meat and shrimp. My friend ordered sweet potato pancakes and shared them with me also. They were the best sweet potato pancakes I have ever had! This is a big compliment because I've had very good sweet potato pancakes before. On top of the excellent food, we experienced outstanding service and great discussion with Gary himself. It happened to be Gary's birthday when we visited, and he is so beloved that another customer sang to him. It was beautiful! Also, Gary was gracious and kind to make each customer present feel like family. I look forward to returning to Gary's on my next trip to the area. read more

We always know to ask the locals for a good breakfast spot and this recommendation did not disappoint. Gary's is 15 minutes from our hotel but well worth the drive. We had sweet potato pancakes and apple cinnamon pancakes. They were both delicious! The home fries were good too. Large portions to share or take some with you. Service was friendly, accurate, and timely. We'll definitely be back. If you were a fan of O'Shea's that is now closed, try Gary's. It will be your new favorite. read more

Looking for good food but don't care about ambiance? This is your place! Good greasy spoon breakfast and lunch place. Hipster foodie types will gripe because it's not hip or have great decor. Good prices, the food tastes good, hot coffee, and the service is great. The waitresses are attentive and clear everything immediately. Tiffany was my waitress this time, she seems to be new to waitressing (and young) but great attitude and smiles! Sat at the counter and everyone made sure I didn't need anything. This is a hidden "gem"! We just had breakfast here and the food was fantastic! Kid said it was the best home fries she's ever had. Husband had "special #2" which was a breakfast wrap, he had to eat it with a fork and knife and he loved it. I had the Strawberry sweet cream French Toast, so yummy. Just went there this morning for some breakfast getting ready for my drive back to NYC from A.C. Clean, friendly atmosphere, attentive... all the things you can ask for when going to eat. I ordered a western omelet, and my group ordered various things, like eggs with sausage, pancakes with bacon, etc... I just spent The weekend in A.C., spending an immense amount of $ on simple foods. I wish I had been coming to Gary's to eat every day! The food was great, fresh, we left our plates clean. If I lived in the area, this would be my little cozy place to eat breakfast and lunch on a regular. Had some decent breakfasts there so I decided to try their lunch and ordered their brisket with potato pancakes off of their "specials menu." What a disappointment. The brisket was boiled to death and had a grayish pallor, not to mention that it resembled the bottom of my loafers and tougher than the leather. The au jus that came in a small side container was the only thing that made it semi-edible. The potato pancakes were pasty, leaden and could not be saved by the minuscule amount of applesauce that came with the dish. Really had high hopes that this would be a great dish, but looks like I'll only stick to their breakfasts. What a bummer. Service is very pleasant. read more

It's so worth the 50 minute drive to get there. I love all their food. My favorite is the catfish, grits & eggs. The food & service are outstanding. It's my go to spot for breakfast. This is my first experience at Gary's and it was absolutely amazing. My husband, 2 friends and I were in AC for the beer festival, and on the way home we needed some food before we set out for North Jersey. I used Yelp to help us find a food spot and based on reviews we found Gary's. When we first walked in there was a line, but they quickly made up a table for us. I ordered the biscuits and sausage gravy with eggs and homefries. My husband for the pastrami Rueben. My friends got a chorizo omelette special and pancakes with ham and eggs. The portions were very generous and the food was spectacular. At the end of our meal, the owner Gary came up to our table and apologized about the initial wait when we came in. You can really tell he cares about his customers and his business. Next time we are in AC this will definitely be our stop on the way home. I highly recommend everyone goes to Gary's!! read more

Clearly, there are many places in AC to enjoy breakfast but, chose to avoid the obvious and clicked "Yelp" for assistance. Gary's Restaurant with a 4 1/2 star rating, attracted my palate. Gary's is a 10 minute drive off exit 5 of the AC expressway. Gary's is located in small strip mall and easily missed without the aid of a GPS. The interior is bright and inviting. The walls feature pictures of various celebrities and a shore themed mural. One notable dichotomy was a New York Yankees banner on one wall and the Philadelphia skyline on the other. Friendly banter between locals and staff dominated Gary's. About the food: my western omelet, coffee, and service were impeccable. Don't gamble on breakfast in AC, go to Pleasantville and enjoy a jack pot of a breakfast ( yeh, I know campy analogy ) read more

I never knew this place existed until a co-worker brought me here for lunch. Gary's has a home-y feel to it. Diner style tables and a chalkboard for specials in the front. I ordered the blackened chicken salad since I'm on a health kick. The salad comes with garlic bread, with no wheat roll option, sad. The dressing options were scarce also, the traditional French, Italian, Blue Cheese, Ranch. I asked if they had balsamic and was given red wine vinegar and oil. I guess that's healthier than the original choices. The salad came out, on iceberg lettuce, sad. The tomatoes were only cut in half and still took 3-4 bites to eat each wedge. The chicken was good though! It was cooked just right, without drying the white meat. The seasoning on the chicken was flavorful as well. That was the only thing I ate on the salad. I'd like to go back to try their specials and other items, just not the salad. read more

This was my first time here. I gave them 5 stars bcuz not only the food was good, but waitress was very patient, friendly n accommodating. She was very helpful in tell us their specials n how the food is cooked. We tried the Pork chops with gravy, 2 eggs n with home fries combo. Omg, that was an amazing dish! Who would've thought having Pork chops for breakfast??!! The gravy was the best I've had EVER!! The spinach n feta cheese was great too! They def didn't skimp out on the spinach n cheese like some other places. The chicken matzoh ball soup was a delight! My first time on the soup too! I usually allow 50% of my rating to the service and the other part to the food itself. With Gary's, I could of easily given 100% 5 Star rating for the service alone as the young lady (Dana) who tended to my family and I (5 of us) was just the best! The food was equally as tasty, with French toast for the boys, getting rave rave reviews. Personally I had an Western omelet that was done just right and not dry at all. Also had grits with it, which is always a treat that I love when I can find them, which is not often. Love the place itself for its throwback feel and authentic dineresque seating. read more

Definitely the place to go on your way out of AC in the morning, but even worth an Uber ride back and forth if you're staying at a casino. This is a very cute, clean family restaurant. The food is very good, but the lunch / dinner options are mostly sandwiches or salads. Almost all options are served on a kaiser roll, Italian bread, Texas toast etc. There are also open face sandwich options. I would really enjoy more meal options. read more

Reminiscent of an old-school diner mixed with a local southern joint, there are definitely some regional favorites you have to try from here (i.e, The Scrapple). AND Southern staples (Fried catfish sandwich is fabulous). Gary's is an overall nice place to eat for a low price. It has a cozy and friendly atmosphere, with paintings of the Atlantic City coastline. All the waitresses are kind and seem like they enjoy their job. I ordered the pancakes, eggs, bacon, and home fries. The pancakes were the size of an average plate and were fluffy. The syrup came out hot, almost burnt my tongue. The eggs were perfectly cooked, and the home fries were salty but in a good way. For me and my dad, who ordered the same as me, was $30. read more

Food was amazing. I wanted a special kind of omelette and the waitress had no problem getting it just right for me and the cook made it perfectly. My boyfriend had the cream chipped and loved it. My omelette was so bi he even had to finish it for me and loved it too! The place has a nice homey diner feel and I'm assuming the owner was chatting and laughing with the waitresses and it had a nice vibe and feel to it, kind of reminds me of the diners in my hometown. Hidden Gem My friends and I were traveling through AC looking for a place to eat and I asked Siri to locate the nearest restaurant and came it up with Gary's! They had the best breakfast menu ever and the food was served fresh and delicious! At first we were skeptical but after speaking with Siri (iPhone), I was told it had a 4 star and reasonably priced, so we gave it a try and we were all glad we did! I will definitely return whenever I am in AC. They are open from 7am-3pm so be sure to visit them for breakfast and lunch! The staff there are also very pleasant. read more
