Decided to try this diner out as Dennys was so packed. You can never go wrong with a diner. I decided on the chicken gyro and my partner the grand slam with pancakes and Italian sausage. My gyro was very under seasoned. I was so happy to see the amount of tzatziki sauce oozing out but unfortunately had no flavor or salt of any kind. The fries though were so nice and crispy. They seemed to have some coating on them. My partners dish was just your basic diner breakfast. The sausage was a tad bit burnt but still good nontheless. read more

The customer service was great--the staff member we interacted with was super friendly. There is a parking lot; however, you have to walk all the way to the front to enter, which didn't make much sense. The tables are well spaced, so you don't feel like you're on top of one another. Restaurants like Phoenix support the claim that NJ boasts the best diners. Everything is made-in house. It was apparent with my chicken salad platter. From the coleslaw to the potato salad and chicken, I enjoyed every bite (though with such a big portion, there were leftovers.) Looking at the neighboring table, I said to T, "you should've gotten sausage." Nice big, juicy sausage with casing that pops when you take a bite, not little links or patties you get in most diners. The fellow whose sausage I coveted said that their blueberry Danish is out of this world. Where I lived in Marietta, GA the diner has the most decadent-looking desserts. But their cakes come from a bakery, and in our opinion, weren't all that great. Looking at the showcase in Phoenix -- particularly the fruit pies -- desserts look homemade. I came here with a bunch of my friends after our friend's bachelor party about three weeks ago, a quick summary is that the people working that were very kind, accommodating, the food was pretty good. If you want to put your health at great risk all for the sake of a meal then perhaps venture into this long standing Absecon diner but their total disregard for customer health and safety is more than disheartening. Not a single employee wore a mask, which makes me believe that this is a management policy not personal choice because in these times you would hope that at least one employee of a diner would have the caring heart to wear a mask while working in close contact with customers but not here. With COVID numbers spiking in our area (And people dying and hospital ICU's full.) this diner is more than a slight danger zone ... if you are elderly or have any serious health conditions fly past this Phoenix! Ok, so you wonder why two stars ... one would think this place needs to be rated in the negative (And, their management clearly has shown a negative approach towards the public in these challenging times!! They post a sign about spacing diners but then they allow their potentially affected employees to walk around unmasked.) ... and why did I actually invest enough time to review the diner. First, this was my daughter's choice and she was treating. The three of us saw the situation and quickly double masked and turned our heads away from any employee who approached our table. Not the best of situations. But, now the good news and since this is a local eatery they need and deserve good news when they can get it! The service (If you are willing to ignore their antipathy towards your well being.) was fast, friendly, and pretty much outstanding. Yes, service matters and it had the Phoenix rising out of the negative zone ashes. And, then the delivery time of food made you wonder if they had microphones from the table to the kitchen because our breakfast was delivered literally in the "blink of any eye" with attention paid to the presentation, which is always a plus. Although, and I will admit this is a personal gripe with many breakfast establishments, my 'New York Omelette" looked more like a frittata that was folded in half than a classic omelette (It was filled with meats and cheese and tasted good.). The food was at the right temperature and tasty ... we didn't have to ask for coffee refills (See service above) ...and the prices were a dollar or two below prevailing market competitors. If the staff had been at least 3/4's masked this might have been a five star review but none were. Stayed overnight in Absecon and decided to have breakfast at this diner. The best thing here was the coffee which had a really nice flavor to it. Other than that, I would not return here. My French toast had a chemical after taste to it and were not hot when it was served. The Mexican Omlette with homefries was edible, but not enjoyable. I just went here and my experience was amazing. Sorry I forgot to take photos. I ordered the short stack which was a pancake with bacon and eggs. I also got a side of sausage. The sausage I didn't really like. It's a personal thing. Anyways, the pancakes were so fluffy, the bacon was not too crispy, not too raw (PERFECT) and the eggs were amazing. The pickle that came with coleslaw could be more crunchy, but that's okay. Our waitress was so nice. She talked to us a lot and our food arrived shortly. The bathroom was okay, I wish there were more stalls but not many people come here so I can't complain. The booths were not sticky or had crumbs which was good. And there was a bar where you could watch them make drinks. I'm very glad we went there on our way to the airport. I will be getting McDonald's for dinner. read more

What an amazing place to get breakfast! I was stopping through this area and was told about this little gem. Upon walking in there's fresh baked cakes and pastries! The diner smells amazing from the sweets & freshly brewed coffee. I sat at the counter for about an hour and a half chatting with Lauren and some other waitresses! This place is not very friendly. I went here for breakfast 4yrs ago. It was Father's Day. The server was very rude and unprofessional. She did not want to serve us. Because we were AfricanAmericans. . We waited 20 mins to get a server. That genuinely help us right way. She then apologized for the rudeness of her co-worker. The waitress was really nice. Very attentive. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and a order of fries. As in most diners it was piled high. Opened it up to take some of the chicken salad out and saw the dirt on the lettuce. Gave it a good dip in my water to rinse it off and patted it dry and put it back in my sandwich. The Phoenix was recommended to me a few years ago. Sine then, I've been there many times. I will return for their great food, especially breakfast. The atmosphere is casual and very clean. The small glasses (water) are half the size of what a small used to be, and the large is slightly bigger than what a small used to be. $3.75 for a large glass of orange juice and it used to be one refill free - not anymore. I have mixed feelings about this diner. The radio was on really loud and when I asked the waitress if it could be turned down she said that they couldn't touch it. Who wants to listen to loud commercials on the radio when you're trying to enjoy a family get together breakfast? We had to talk over the radio. The food was okay, except that the fruit compote on our French toast and waffles was ice cold! Why they didn't warm it up in the kitchen is a mystery, it was straight out of the refrigerator and made our food cold, which was a shame. For the prices they charge they should do better. For many years this was a goto for us. Recently the quality of food has gone way down. Especially in the area of thier breakfast. Today had 2 eggs over easy , corned beef hash and potatoes. The whole meal had sat for a while because nothing was hot. The corned beef hash was rotten. Looked and smelled like somthing had died and made the whole meal taste off. Ended up just eating a bagel and my wife's fries. This isn't the first time the meal hasent been good over the last two years we've had enough mediocre meals here that we've switched diners. I really like this diner. Lots of options. Usually great service with friendly waitresses. Dinner specials are always very good. Great place for breakfast, lunch or diner. But my favorite thing on the menu is their apple pie. That paired with a hot cup of coffee is the bomb. Give this place a try. You will be glad you did. My family comes to Jersey every year and we always come to this diner. I'm not the biggest diner fan, but all of the Greek specialties here are my favorite. The "bagel all the way" is awesome too. When I complained that was insulting the other waitresses stood there saying no it's not. That was highly insulting since I am a heterosexual man with my girlfriend. My boys and I were spending a night close by and needed a place to get something to eat. The Phoenix looked like a decent alternative to several fast food options around. Diner is a decent size and looked clean. There were not many customers when we ate around 4. We had chicken orzo soup which was pretty good. I had the turkey dinner which was a large portion but was average. My one son had baked ziti and enjoyed it (also large portion). My youngest ordered from the kids menu. He had spaghetti and meatball. He didn't enjoy it. The meatball was ok (I tried a piece). Service was fair. Portions were large. The quality was ok. The menu was so large I can't imagine all that food being cooked fresh. In a pinch, it was ok. I'm curious how the breakfast was. read more

Local diner right on the white horse pike outside of AC. I've passed it a million times and decided I needed soup on this snowy day so I said let me pop in. It's a typical NJ Greek Diner from the decor to the service to the menu that is bigger than the old and new testaments combined with 15 Cheesecake Factory menus. Lots of diner classic options and Greek options. They even have low carb options too. I went with the soup of the day which was chicken rice and a house salad with grilled chicken (since as I've said before, during the week I try to behave food-wise). The soup was great! Very flavorful and simple. The salad had a ton of veggies and the chicken while advertised as grilled, wasn't what I would call grilled....I'm still not sure what I was but it was decent. Overall it was a decent diner and I may have given it more stars if I tried a good a greasy and calorie ridden dish that Jersey diners are known for, but until next time, 3 stars it is. read more

First impression is this is really a beautiful diner. Can tell there was a lot of work put into renovations since I was last here. As a matter of fact the min door was on the opposite side of the building as I remember it. Breakfast so I order what I can't make myself very well, a ham, cheese and onion omelette with a side of scrapple. Nice platter filled the bill and the coffee was great given some diner standards. Scrapple was cooked to perfection; crispy outside and soft inside, however portion was small given price. My wife got a western omelet that was just as good.
