You can't tell from my photo, but the water glass is a throw back to the 70s. Both my husband and I noticed. (We like nostalgia!)

Restaurants like Phoenix support the claim that NJ boasts the best diners. Everything is made-in house. It was apparent with my chicken salad platter. From the coleslaw to the potato salad and chicken, I enjoyed every bite (though with such a big portion, there were leftovers.) Looking at the neighboring table, I said to T, "you should've gotten sausage." Nice big, juicy sausage with casing that pops when you take a bite, not little links or patties you get in most diners. The fellow whose sausage I coveted said that their blueberry Danish is out of this world. Where I lived in Marietta, GA the diner has the most decadent-looking desserts. But their cakes come from a bakery, and in our opinion, weren't all that great. Looking at the showcase in Phoenix -- particularly the fruit pies -- desserts look homemade. Definitely next time!

Excellent blueberry pancakes and breakfast sausage. The western omlette and home fries were also satisfying. Good bottomless coffee.

If you want to put your health at great risk all for the sake of a meal then perhaps venture into this long standing Absecon diner but their total disregard for customer health and safety is more than disheartening. Not a single employee wore a mask, which makes me believe that this is a management policy not personal choice because in these times you would hope that at least one employee of a diner would have the caring heart to wear a mask while working in close contact with customers but not here. With COVID numbers spiking in our area (And people dying and hospital ICU's full.) this diner is more than a slight danger zone ... if you are elderly or have any serious health conditions fly past this Phoenix! Ok, so you wonder why two stars ... one would think this place needs to be rated in the negative (And, their management clearly has shown a negative approach towards the public in these challenging times!! They post a sign about spacing diners but then they allow their potentially affected employees to walk around unmasked.) ... and why did I actually invest enough time to review the diner. First, this was my daughter's choice and she was treating. The three of us saw the situation and quickly double masked and turned our heads away from any employee who approached our table. Not the best of situations. But, now the good news and since this is a local eatery they need and deserve good news when they can get it! The service (If you are willing to ignore their antipathy towards your well being.) was fast, friendly, and pretty much outstanding. Yes, service matters and it had the Phoenix rising out of the negative zone ashes. And, then the delivery time of food made you wonder if they had microphones from the table to the kitchen because our breakfast was delivered literally in the "blink of any eye" with attention paid to the presentation, which is always a plus. Although, and I will admit this is a personal gripe with many breakfast establishments, my 'New York Omelette" looked more like a frittata that was folded in half than a classic omelette (It was filled with meats and cheese and tasted good.). The food was at the right temperature and tasty ... we didn't have to ask for coffee refills (See service above) ...and the prices were a dollar or two below prevailing market competitors. If the staff had been at least 3/4's masked this might have been a five star review but none were. The food and service was great but frankly right now in these times my health, my family's health, and the health of those I come in contact with matter to you too!

Stayed overnight in Absecon and decided to have breakfast at this diner. The best thing here was the coffee which had a really nice flavor to it. Other than that, I would not return here. My French toast had a chemical after taste to it and were not hot when it was served. The Mexican Omlette with homefries was edible, but not enjoyable. The server was overwhelmed since they were short staffed.

Had. Real fast here before we started our journey back to SI,NY . We had a vegetarian omelet with fruit and a eggs Benedict . Both were a good serving and staff was very friendly and on point . We had a party of 12 and our waitress did a great job. Would stop here again for a meal.

This place has the omelette market cornered! Dated: Aug 2016

Fast service but food is extremely bland. Only thing that had flavor was the processed patty.

And I have to say, my review remains the same at 5 stars...JJ's Diner does not disappoint! Our awesome server was Mary Ann with an M ....she gave us friendly and warm service and she was very attentive. Our food came out hot and was delicious - - i had another waffle, but this time with just bananas - -and hubby had scrambled eggs and hash browns covered in cheese - - and he LOVED every bite as did I. And the coffee is just perfect! JJ's is a bright light and such a heavenly oasis. Everyone should be as happy and positive as the people that work at JJ's. From the outside, the place looks like it gave up on glamour some time ago. No chrome spaceship, no neon promises. Just a building that knows what it is. Inside, however, it's 100% Jersey diner. A board announcing pie and pudding as if they were breaking news. Booths to the left. Counter seating for those who wish to face their breakfast directly. A dining room to the right for people who prefer a little distance from their eggs. My wife ordered eggs over easy with corned beef hash. I chose cream chipped beef over toast, a dish that has survived longer than many empires for reasons that become clear when you eat it. Both came with home fries and coffee. Everything tasted exactly as it should. The eggs behaved. The hash was honest. The chipped beef was comforting in the way only something slightly excessive can be. The coffee kept coming. The service was attentive and friendly without hovering like guilty conscience. We paid thirty five dollars with tip, which in this era feels almost like a mathematical error in our favor. Nothing here will astonish you. But it will feed you well, send you back out into the world a little steadier, and sometimes that is the highest calling a diner can have. Four stars feel right. Not because anything here changed my understanding of breakfast, but because it did't try to.

We arrived a little after 10 and this place was packed. If you have to wait, you have to wait outside which is a bummer as it was cold but luckily they have a parking lot on the side. The parking lot fits about 8 cars and is tiny but it's better than nothing. We didn't have to wait long. They have a small bar area as well about 20 tables throughout the establishment. They have one of the cleanest old bathrooms I've ever been in. Our waitress was really nice and was quick to take our orders. I ordered the French toast platter which came with eggs, home fries and bacon for me. The eggs were real eggs which was a plus. The bacon was good as well. The potatoes needed some seasoning, as well as salt and pepper. They were lacking big time. Overall my meal was good. The French toast could have been bigger but for the price I get it. My wife ordered the Banana Foster French Toast which comes with a lot of bananas. Overall she liked it though. My daughter had the Meatlovers sandwich on a croissant. This sandwich was gone in less than 5 mins. She shared th same sentiments on the potatoes. Ketchup, salt and pepper are a MUST. Overall we had a good time and this will be a go to for breakfast over the expensive hotel casinos.
