We were driving by to go to a main stream hotel and saw this place. Thought it was so cute. The office was closed but I walked around and a tenant knew the owner and went get him. He showed us a room I think it was $75 a night. The only complaint we have is it was a very cold night and we had to go buy a space heater. Other than that it's a cute little place! The Gas Lite Motel in Laramie is a quaint and comfy motor lodge right on the main drag. It's easy to spot, thanks to the awesome vintage sign standing over the place. The whole thing has a rustic, frontier feel, with western themed statues and decorations covering the property. The owner checked us in and even followed up to make sure everything with our room was great. It was. Friendly folks here at the Gas Lite. Room was comfortable, with two beds, two sinks, and a cozy seating area. There was also a fridge and microwave in the room. A definite plus. The Gas Lite is just north of downtown, but right on 3rd St. which means easy access to food, shopping, and nightlife options. This place a wonderful slice of Americana, like you don't often see, and was right up my alley. Will stay again. Highly recommended!!! read more

Wow! This motel is a cross between a really bad 1950s children's amusement park (think "Kiddy Land" for those who know) and a slasher film. I have literally never seen anything like this place before, which is fairly intriguing, but probably not worth the $50/night for the room. Adorned throughout with bizarre animal and human life-sized figurines (not joking), the Gas Lite Motel is a motel on LSD, with the Eastern European manager only reinforcing the "trippiness" of the place. By the time you check out, you'll wish you had updated your typhoid immunizations in advance. The motel has a swimming pool (unique for Laramie), though I wouldn't be caught dead in it for fear of being eaten by something living inside of it. Additionally, a continental breakfast is included in the room rate (a similar fear to that of the pool prevented me from eating breakfast). Rooms were clean and wireless internet is available, though our door didn't lock properly and the sounds of 3rd Street were present for most of the night. Not that we could sleep anyway, for fear of being the subjects of the next "Unsolved Mysteries" program. Literally, the only reason I am giving two stars, instead of one, is because the Gas Lite is sooooooo weird. I figure that's worth something in this day in age of Holiday Inns, etc.. This place is certainly unique. Though, like puberty (you're happy you experienced it once, but would never do it again), the Gas Lite will be the subject of future stories, but never a return visit. read more

The Gas Lite Motel in Laramie, Wyoming is a little ark of an inn. It is possibly my favorite motel ever. I love everything about this place. Terry, the proprietor, is smart and helpful and remembers your name. He was very gracious to my mother recently, during a difficult time. Being able to come home to the Gaslite each night, made a huge difference during a long week. I appreciate there is not a lot of stuff I do not need in the room, like bad coffee and icky hand lotions no one wants to use. What there is, is everything a person needs for a cozy night's sleep and comfortable stay, including an incredibly clean room, a good furnace, and quiet and calm environs. The neighborhood animal population congregation is a bonus for free entertainment. The Gaslite made the difference. Thank you so much! read more

Oh yeah! Creepy and Chic simultaneously! This is one of the most charming and unique motels I've stayed at. Bedbug free, continental breakfast in the morning, it's not all that bad really. I can't get past the googly eyed horse statues and the silly cowboy murals everywhere. Even if you don't have to stay the night, its grounds are littered with folk art and various creepy antique treasures. My one qualm is that I got a wake up call at 10 in the morning in the sound of what is apparently a tornado siren from across the street, which by the way is not unlike a nuclear missile or air-raid warning siren. I was immediately filled with apocalyptic dread. I asked the vaguely Germanic manager about it at the front desk, and in broken English she responds "It means a tornado at 11 am, or maybe not." This all definitely contributes to the general weirdness of Laramie. I recommend this place very much! read more

The office smell like a zoo, room had flies coming out the sink, I bought a brand new brush and noticed some hair that was nothing like mine stuck in it, the room had a foreign smell every time I opens the door, the towels felt like they weren't washed right and to top it all off I saw bed bugs. So I left the motel in the middle of the night after waking up to hard scratches on my stomach arms and neck. The money I lost I hope they get an exterminator. Book at your own risk. read more

it is unique an original and fun! But the internet works very slowly and you'll have to disable Kaspersky to use it. The pillows were soft, toilet paper thin and rough as well as the towels. Just spent two nights here and loved it. The rooms were delightfully kitschy, and the staff were all solid, real people. The room was clean and everything worked and was supremely quiet. I had driven past the sterile Holiday Inn and Mariott hotels on the other side of town, shuddering in distaste, and went back to the main drag, and picked the Gas Lite because it had (by far) the most personality, and I wasn't disappointed. We loved how unique this hotel was! The artwork alone in our room put a huge smile on our face. The owner was kind enough to give us a room away from the cluster of guests, as we are touring musicians and cherish a good nights rest once we get in late. What a fun experience it was staying at the Gas Lite! This is one of the best western motels I've ever seen or stayed in. The front desk was super helpful and had our room ready for our early arrival, and we were able to park right in front of our room, which is nice since we travel with music equipment. The motel itself is located right in downtown Laramie, so were just minutes from our venue and also from a lot of restaurants and bars. The room was super clean and cozy with a lot of vintage charm. There are western murals on the walls which really add to the ambiance. The bathroom was clean and spacious, and there is also another sink in the main room just incase. Would love to stay here again next time we are in Wyoming! read more

We are on a road trip down to Texas. About four hours away we made a reservation to stay here. Our car broke down near rock springs and we had to get towed. We were unable to contact the motel to cancel our reservation until 8pm that night. The woman who we spoke with was super kind and did not charge us a cancellation fee. If I ever pass through Laramie I will be sure to visit this motel. read more

Probably the cutest motel I've ever stayed in ( : Ummm whats the word... Cowboy-kitschey? The breakfast is continental and simple, and there is a pool, though not very big. Bathrooms and bedrooms clean and well-supplied. Internet is fast - not fast enough for Hulu, but close. Walls are covered with cowboy and wild west "art" and please don't forget the hilarious animal sculptures outside, everything from bison to horses and chickens, and generous pots of geraniums. Yeah, it's funky and each room is decorated with a different goofy or funky theme and the grounds are filled with all manner of cheesy statues and signs and weird funkiness. That is neat and all. And, the room had fridge and microwave. Give them that. But.... -FILTHY, gross, horrifying room!!!! I entered, backed out and went and bought Lysol wipes and Febreeze at the Safeway down the street. Returned and wiped down everything possible, sprayed every inch of cloth to try to make it doable for one night. Thank heavens for Lysol wipes and Febreeze. -They offered me a non-smoking room that clearly was not. My suitcase and clothes smelled horribly like cigarettes by the time I left that room 17 hours later. -Carpet was not only extremely old and stained - but it hadn't been vacuumed even in ages. Kept my sandals on the entire time except when in bed. -Cigarette burns/stains all over -Chairs had tons of stains and general dirt, I wouldn't sit on them, only on the the bed (after throwing the cover on the floor -Things had a stickiness to them, even after being wiped down.....horrifying -Ancient and stained everything: furniture, counters, blankets, all circa 1970. -Virtually no counter space around the sink -I read later that there was a breakfast, but they never mentioned that to me when I was there. -Sheets and towels were clean, otherwise I would have gone back and demanded a refund. (1/2 star for that) -Funky decor was entertaining and helped make it less depressing. I would have killed myself if not for the weird dinosaur stuff all over. (1/2 star for that) I am actually not a snob, I stay at cheap motels a lot, but yikes... Sure, it has character, but do so many people really have no problem with unwashed bed covers and blankets from 1970? Come on people!!! The value of Funky DOES have a limit! Nothing good-funky about filth; filth is just bad-funky. I've stayed at many motels that are cheaper and far nicer. read more

I love this place. It's old hometown. No it's no 5 star or 4 star. What it is is real home town. The people who run the place are wonderful. My son was attending "Wyotech" and I had been to the town several time. I had stayed at "The Hampton Inn" but it was quite a ways front the school. After several visits to the town I couldn't help but notice this wonderful looking place that screamed "Retro Old Time". Of course I was looking at cutting cost, but I do have my standards. Believe me I do have my standards, as I've run high end board certified plastic surgeons office for 15 years. So forget all that. I do love retro and like to go outside the scope of the typical "chain" of inns. So after returning a second time I have to share my experience. It's a wonderful place where the people that run the place are so sweet with their European accent. I had made reservation for more days than what I needed and was afraid to tell them I wanted to check out early because my son wanted to head home after finishing school. They were so nice that even though I hadn't given them notice I had let them know before 10 a.m. that I was going to leave. They credited me back. Now I have to warn you that if you have a affinity to "formica" then this is not the place for you. And when you turn the bathroom or vanity light on you thing there is something wrong. No, it's a light that warms up to your eyes so you're not blinded by the initial light. I've come from nothing but have now been around the world and have experienced the best. I will always go back to this motel because it's just like those old motels I grew up with. But, if you're like my sister who has a affinity to what they perceive as something that is not there then you may want to pass. I, however, will come back because it's clean, cheap and sweet sweet management. read more

We were creeped out by how dirty/cluttered the office was, but for some reason decided to stay here anyway... The room we got had not seen the light of day in several weeks (stuffy, moth in the shower). The sheets smelled fine, but were stained. I kept my sandals on when walking on the carpet... To be fair, we will always remember this place because of the giant dinosaur murals on our room's walls. The breakfast was basically nonexistent (some packets of oatmeal that we grabbed to take on the road and coffee that we didn't want to chance). The wi-fi was slow. This place is amusing, but you're probably better off just driving by for a look at the crazy decor. Not sure how it compares to other places in Laramie... I'd agree with an earlier review that used the words creepy and unique (however, definitely was NOT chic or charming). read more

I wouldn't recommend stay here, they've got a BB (bedbug) infestation that they refuse to acknowledge. Who wants to be bitten by these pesky things? They are now charging an extra 200$ without written noticed to the people who are staying there. Every price is different mind you, so be careful! The hot water tank in one part of the building was out for weeks before they replaced it same with an AC unit. In the dead of summer! I am only outraged because my mother who is a traveling Medical Technician isn't able to find a place close enough to stay with her furrkids. Who keep her company while on the road. The Gas Lite is locally owned and operated. They work very hard to provide clean and comfortable rooms as well as reflect a unique experience with the Western theme outside and in the rooms. They also have many flowers and plants outside during the warmer months that liven up the place and are intended to give guests an added pleasant experience. I have stayed there when I had to find a new place to live due to a bad landlord who would not deal with bugs and a mouse problem. The owner and employees work hard to keep the rooms clean and make sure guests have the comforts they need. I am also aware of a recent problem with bugs and it was quickly dealt with. A guest who was renting by the month made an allegation of bed bugs after being in that room for months and called the health department. She refused to leave the room and the owner told her she needed to move out so the room could be cleaned as it isn't safe for people or pets to be in a room when it is being cleaned. It is also impossible to get rid of bugs when the person is still in the room as it can be re-infested by the person who can transfer them from their vehicle, clothing and other fabrics back into the room. The room has been blocked and cleaned and is awaiting approval from the Department of Health before it will be opened for guests. Cleanliness is a priority. Also this summer the water heater for 12 rooms went out and a new one was ordered out of Chicago. It took 2 weeks to get it here and then get it installed. Those rooms were not rented to overnight guests as far as I know. The other rooms, which operate off another water heater were rented and some people had to be turned away. I was disheartened when I read a review that stated a room was filthy and yet this was not brought to the attention of the owner who would have had it cleaned to the guest's satisfaction or been given a refund. My experience at the Gas Lite was a good one. I was treated so well. The maid did a thorough job cleaning my room every day and when I asked for extra towels or pillows or other things, I was given them. The atmosphere was very relaxed and the owner and employees were friendly and helpful. Also, to the person who said they are charging an extra $200 without notice? That's illegal and guests wouldn't put up with that. Is it possible that someone was charged for room damage after the fact? Hotels and Motels can do that and why would that be wrong? People don't have a right to go in and trash a room without then having to pay for the damage. Also, how does Sam R. know this? I don't see any evidence of that being a personal experience of his. Is his review based on another person's attempt to do harm to the Gas Lite? read more

To be fair, we stayed at this motel quite a few years ago, so it might have improved since then. But it has to be the worst motel we have ever stayed at. Their looked to be a giant oil stain on the carpet. We were afraid to remove our shoes. The towels and bed sheets were stained. We also did not have anyone come in to clean, sweep the carpet, provide new towels. Everything looked pretty dusty. Unless it has improved significantly (and some of these reviews suggest it hasn't), would not recommend. read more
