BEWARE OF OVERCHARGING!…read more I strongly recommend that any patient here carefully compare every charge to their insurance EOB. Do not assume the billing is accurate without verifying it yourself! After personally reconciling the office's patient ledger to my insurance Explanation of Benefits, I found over $5k in billing discrepancies. Line by line, I found charges that exceeded the insurance-allowed amounts. For example, one visit was billed at $467, while the allowed amount was $251. These differences were not minor--they added up to a substantial overpayment! What's troubling is that these discrepancies were not identified or corrected by the office. I had to do the reconciliation myself and bring it to their attention. After submitting detailed documentation, including a very detailed and thorough spreadsheet, persistent follow ups and ultimately escalated to take legal action until I finally received a partial refund, well beyond the expected timeframe. Even now, the amount is not fully resolved, and $252 remains in dispute. When billing discrepancies of this size only come to light after a patient conducts their own detailed audit--and then require weeks of pressure to partially correct--it raises serious questions about billing accuracy and internal oversight. Also want to note that they require full payment for procedures up front and don't take in account estimated insurance proceeds. As a result, I ended up over paying by more than $10k! What makes this whole situation worse is that I used to really like this office, had a lot of trust and respect for them but the way I've been treated ever since I started questioning the charges has done a complete 180. They consistently made me feel like a burden and the "bad guy". They did not take accountability at all for the issue and continue to argue with me with no substantial back up. Regarding the actual dental work I received - when I went in to switch out my temporary crowns to the permanent ones (I got crowns on almost all my top teeth), I really didn't like them and weren't like the temporary ones I was wearing for a few weeks. I was almost in tears trying to advocate for myself before they permanently cemented them. They made me feel bad for sending them back, I'm so glad I got the courage to speak up and not accept something I did not like. Ultimately after the second visit, they ended up looking really good but after everything I've dealt with recently, I certainly won't be returning. Who knows how much they overcharged me since 2019 when I first started coming here! If you chose to go to this office, please make sure to pay close attention to your patient charges and the amount they submit to your dental insurance (they should match)! If they owe you a refund, Florida recently based a law that makes it unlawful for healthcare providers to hold onto amounts owed to patients for overpayments over 30 days.

1 star I'm writing…read morethis carefully, because I want anyone reading it to understand this isn't a rant -- it's a timeline. Before I ever came in, I called the office and asked directly: will this visit cost me anything? I was told no. Then at the front desk, I asked again -- and asked specifically whether they had verified my insurance. They said yes, verified, no cost to me. Two separate confirmations, two separate conversations. Weeks later, a $125 bill arrived. When I called to question it, I was first offered a "courtesy discount." Then, suddenly, the story changed: oh, actually, insurance covered a portion -- you only owe $25. Read that again. The bill went from $125 to $25 only because I called. So which is it? Either they never actually verified my insurance before billing me -- meaning the "yes, it's verified" I got twice was false -- or they sent me an inflated bill and hoped I'd just pay it. There is no third option, and neither one is a "mistake." When I pointed out I was told there'd be no cost at all, the answer became "we don't guarantee insurance coverage." Then why did your staff guarantee it -- on the phone AND in person? Nobody said "we can't promise coverage" either time I asked. That disclaimer only appeared after the bill did. A policy you invent after the fact isn't a policy. It's a cover story. To be clear: this is not about $25. I can afford $25. This is about an office that told me one thing twice, billed me five times that amount, and only corrected it under pressure. If I hadn't called, they'd have my $125. How many patients just pay? And it fits the pattern of the entire visit, which was one long sales pitch. I was told I needed gingivitis therapy, antibiotics, AND a deep cleaning at premium prices. They pushed a CT scan, which I declined -- thank God, given what their billing looks like. They even tried to sell me Invisalign, which I never asked about. So I got a second opinion: another dentist told me the antibiotics were not necessary and quoted the deep cleaning at a fraction of the price. The treatment plan wasn't built around my teeth. It was built around my wallet. The front staff is polite -- I'll give them that. But polite is what a sales operation is supposed to be. I've been to Aspen Dental, and at least Aspen never told me twice a visit was covered, billed me $125, and then "discovered" it was $25 when I complained. This is the first dental office I've ever ranked below Aspen Dental. Let that sink in. I've since switched to Bay Premier Dentistry: honest pricing quoted upfront, no surprise bills, excellent work, zero sales pressure. Night and day. What happened at this office isn't "just how dentistry is" -- it's a choice this office makes. To be honest, I wouldn't go to this dentist at all. But if you come here anyway: get every cost in writing before sitting in the chair -- verbal assurances from this office meant nothing for me, twice. Check every bill they send against your insurance's explanation of benefits, because mine was five times what it should have been. Decline anything you didn't come in for, and get a second opinion on any treatment plan. I am reporting this to my insurance company. Not for the $25 -- for the next patient. I understand people are in different financial situations, and I don't want someone getting screwed who can't afford it. A surprise $125 bill built on false assurances could really hurt the wrong person. Shame on them.

If you're looking for a dentist, dental assistance, dental hygienists and office staff who are exceptionally well-trained, meticulous, and genuinely care about their patients, I highly recommend Dr. Obeck and his team.

Unfortunately, their long-time front desk administrator, Alana, has an awful, unprofessional attitude; she is beyond curt, she's just rude. Therefore, regardless of Dr. Obeck's dentistry skills, I have decided to seek dental care elsewhere and would NOT recommend this practice!

I scheduled my appointment without thinking about the fact that I needed to get in and out in an hour to be able to pick up my baby from daycare. I've been to many doctor's appointments and this would have made me stressed because I've found they rarely run on time, however, I've learned this office is super efficient so I actually wasn't that concerned. I told my dental hygienist upfront that I was picking up my son right after and she immediately said let's get you in and out then! When she was done with my cleaning I actually heard her telling Dr. Redd that I had someplace to be. In turn, he was super quick with my check. I really appreciate that and I scheduled my next appointment when I have more time. I actually got out in fifty minutes and I didn't feel like I was rushed at all. I also appreciate how they have little water bottles in the waiting room. They also have cookies. When I'm waiting there's usually just me or just me and one other person so I know they don't over schedule. Whenever anyone asks about a dentist, I always highly recommend Dr. Redd. This is the worst dental experience I have ever had. New to the area, I consulted with Dr Warnken…read more(Dr Becky/Rebecca) about a filling a cavity. The facility was decent, and the consult appeared to go well, so I scheduled for the procedure a few weeks later. Worst decision ever! On procedure day, Dr Warnken seemed chaotic at best. She rushed in, started to numb me without even taking a moment to confirm the work we were doing and then left. About 40 mins later, she bothered to return to work on the tooth. Apparently, it was more important to do the rounds of all the other patients (because this is normal here) and leave me uncomfortable, waiting for a procedure and wondering what the heck was going on. I almost left at this point and I should have. She then started drilling into my tooth - asking for lots of things we hadn't discussed, rushing & chaotic, talking about how great it was doing these tricky procedures and gossiping about what the other dentists like to use when they did dental work. It felt so unprofessional and like she was super distracted - not what you want when someone is drilling into your mouth. At the end, she basically said I was good to go and careful not to don't bite my cheek because I would be numb for a while...oh, and I might need a root canal! There is so much before I could say about the horrible experience, but it was afterwards that got worse! I was numb for approximately 24 hours. My face and jaw felt like I had been punched in the face. I was in so much pain and my vision blurred. I was on pain killers nonstop. The gum wouldn't stop bleeding and was super sore. When I returned 3 days later when they opened again, I saw someone else to see if they could tell why it was so painful. Not only did they charge me for this visit (yet tell me they would reverse the claim and never did so), they told me I should go and see an endodontist. On top of everything, the dental assistants are so unpleasant and unprofessional that they make the whole situation worse. Eventually I saw an endodontist who showed me that the cavity was NOT filled.....who actually knows what Dr Warnken did other than cause extreme pain, make money from me, and leave my tooth in worse condition than when I started (the cavity wasn't causing issues, I was just getting ahead of future problems). The endo suggested I see a different practice to see if they could redo the filling the right way or discuss a crown. At this point, I was out of pocket the CT fees and endo consult, but McIlwain charged me for so many exams that they used up my insurance coverage for the year!! PLUS I found out that insurance doesn't cover a filling on the same tooth for 12 months, so Dr Warnken charged me and my insurance for a surface filling (not needed), then to correct the work, I had to pay out of pocket for the filling to be redone, the CT xrays and the endodontist exam. Overall, the experience here was TERRIBLE!!! I went for a filling in a tooth and she didn't even reach the cavity. When I eventually got proper work done with another dentist, they found that she had left me with infected tissue. Not only have they done nothing to make the situation right, they charged me a lot, used up all my benefits and left me with expenses I wouldn't have needed had the dentist perhaps been more focused and not rushing around in a chaotic manner. The office managed claimed to want to help, yet hasn't followed through at all.
