We booked a room with 2 beds for a party of 3 but when we arrived they brought us to a room with 1 bed and claimed we never booked 2 beds. When we showed them the confirmation they apologized but said that they were fully booked and couldn't change our room. The third member of our party slept on a cot. Also the food is frozen diet food with a gourmet bill. The only person I could see enjoying this place is writers looking to finish a book.

You can see the a little part of Hallstatt lake from hotel. Service is good and food is fairly okay. Room is not big enough for us but I'm not sure if there are larger ones since we book late. It's a good choice if you are on road trip by driving your own car. However, we come by train so have to call a taxi to the hotel. It costs 20 euros up to mountain and 25 euros down next day. The taxi company may not answer the phone sometime so it's inconvenient and unreliable if you have a coming fixed trip. Another option is that hotel may call private car to take you back to town but the fee would be doubled to about 45 euros.

Everything you need and much more. And I think during breakfast I've been asked 3 times if I would need more coffee or something else. The hotel itself is traditional. A few rooms have been refurbished a few haven't. But nevertheless every room is charming and I love the pictures and drawings on the wall near lobby and hallways. For me in total a fantastic package! Originally I would say Bad Ischl is the place for the older generation, but.... if you like good food, mountain hiking and Austrian lifestyle - go there. The Hotel "Goldener Ochs" is a nice little Hotel beneath Traun River and Bad Ischl is surrounded by woods and Mountains where you can do either Winter Sports (Dachstein) or go for hiking in the mountains - or just visit nice places like the Wolfgang-See or Hallstatt. Coming back to the Hotel "Goldener Ochs". This place has rooms in different sizes with and without balcony. The Hotel is managed by the Schweiger Family since more than three generations. When we were visiting this nice Hotel, we have been treated like welcomed friends and we can say that we always had our whishes fulfilled. The Hotel comes with a great little Restaurant - an old (but renovated) part - where Mr. Lehar - the famous composer of Operas - was regular guest - and a new part - covered by an open view glass ceiling. The food offered is of great quality and very, very tasty. I especially like the fish soup (normally I don't like fish soup - but this here´s delicious). The breakfast buffet offers all you can imagine from a german/austrian buffet (scrambled eggs, eggs sunny side up, bacon, jam, toast, several fruits, sausage, cheeses, honey, every sort of bread, ..... - but no pancakes baked beans or something like that - the only thing a british or US person would miss here) The Hotel comes with a nice small Wellness Area with a steam bath, Kneipp-Area, infrared sauna, two different Finnish Saunas (be aware Sauna environment this is a clothing optional area, mixed genders!!) and a small Gym. (If you like - you can ask for a Physio Therapy body massage. The Hotel staff will arrange this for you). Also a small Swimming Pool with integrated Jacuzzi and some Deckchairs are available. All in all not to heavy frequented. In warmer times of the year, the little garden attached to the Pool area is open for guests. Upstairs - above the Pool area - you find a silent room with Deck Chairs and a beautiful view on the Kathrin Mountain and Sirius-Kogel (hill with tower on it).
