I've lived at Gatehouse Apartments for 10 yrs. When I first moved here it was such a warming community. The staff (Mindy and Donna) were AMAZING! They genuinely cared. The environment was fantastic! This new staff they have are a complete joke! They're rude and their communication skills are HORRIBLE! I will be moving soon and I can't wait to leave here! Tried to tour the apartments and the guard said I had to make an appointment. When I made an appointment online I received an email back from the girl but it was not to confirm but only ask about which apartments I was interested in. When I showed up for my appointment time they said they would call me to confirm. I received an email lying saying that their apartments are in high demand but their apartments have multiple available units. They are a joke. read more

Office staff is rude, inconsiderate, unprofessional and very nonchalant about their mistakes. I stay to myself, hardly home and never bother anyone. Made a complaint about their actions and received a look and off the wall justification like I was the one crazy for even coming up there to talk to them about it. Then tried to blame it on security. Maybe put someone in there with customer service skills and a business degree. The First Lady was apologetic however the 2nd Girl was weird and crass. Hate to use racist but ain't no way you don't care like that. Glad I don't do my job the way she handles her. They also don't care about sending ppl in your home unannounced and unplanned. Who wants a stranger walking around their home alone?? Luxury homes should come with luxury staff!!! read more

Definitely would not recommend. They have no intention of returning your deposit and will do everything they can to make sure you do not get it back. Also, make sure you have your entire apartment professionally cleaned upon moving out, carpets and all. Otherwise they will charge you absurd fees for them to do a basic move out cleaning (Which typically is a standard procedure included in the overprice rent for most, if not all apartment complexes). If you do not have your apartment professionally cleaned, the cost will be $100 to have your apartment cleaned. Kitchens and bathrooms are extra, kitchens are $80 and bathrooms are $30. If appliances and cabinets must also be cleaned, that is an extra fee. The stove and refrigerator will be $50 each and the microwave and dishwasher are $20 each. I personally had my carpet professionally cleaned as well as I steam cleaned it myself several times throughout the one year I was there and they still charged me $650 to replace the carpet even though the carpet was installed 2 years before I even moved in. read more

I have lived in Gatehouse for 6 or 7 years now. It's not the Ritz-Carlton or anything but the rent is more than reasonable. Why am I still here? Location-location-location! Gatehouse is night next to the Galleria building in Metairie at Causeway & I-10. Super easy access to I-10 so anywhere you are going on I-10 is quick. I can be in mid-city in about 10 mins or I can be all the way downtown or to the Garden District in about 15 mins or less. You can also quickly dart to Vets or over to Elmwood. The complex is gated which is nice, they are updating each apartment as they turnover. There are pools in two areas. Their service when something breaks is super quick so they get lots of points there. It is also pretty quite overall which is nice. Looking to meet younger people...this is not the place! There are no little babbling brooks like the Creeks in Elmwood, I would guess the average age of the residence is older than most complexes but that's not a bad thing really. There is not a lot of riff-raff cruising in and out with the complex being gated with a guard 24 hours a day. Donna the manager is also very nice and always quick to reply to an email. As complexes go Gatehouse is good. For me it's all about the location. read more

Love living here. They just recently transformed their rec room into a gym, so now all residents have access to the gym. The parking situation is a bit of a problem since the number of guests spots is fairly limited, thus you often find visitors parked in your assigned parking spot which is really quiet annoying. It is gated, so you feel safe, and there aren't any weird characters roaming around. also the reletive old age of most of the residents means it very quiet as well. The staff here are great, for such a large complex I can walk into the front office any day of the week and sit down and talk to them, and Mindy one of the property managers I swear she remembers every resident's name, which is a really good feeling. I'd recommend anybody looking for a good, safe and cheap place to look here read more

I'm a new tenant who just moved in about a month ago from California. I took a chance and gave a deposit before I even looked at the apartment in person, but I'm glad I did! April, the property manager, was very easy to work with and arranged for me to have my keys the Sunday night I arrived so that I wouldn't have to pay for a hotel stay :) Positives: 1. The night I moved in, my freshly renovated apartment was SPOTLESS and move-in ready. I didn't have to clean ANYTHING and I'm someone who has allergies and is OCD about cleanliness. 2. The kitchen is spacious with granite countertops, a large sink, and a decent amount of storage space. Apartment comes with your own washer/dryer too. 3. It's safe- there is 24 hour security. Although, sometimes I do notice that the guards are away and leave the gate open but that's probably because they're attending to complaints or issues on the property. 4. The gym is not bad and the pool area and property are well maintained. 5. The neighbors I've met so far are very friendly. I never hear any loud music, etc. 6. It's a very convenient location with Whole Foods, The Ochsner Medical Center, Barnes and Noble all being within a few mile radius. 7. When I spoke to my other friends/classmates, I noticed that they paid significantly more for similar upgrades but smaller square footage. So, I'm satisfied with the rent I'm paying. 8. The staff is very friendly and they take care of repairs and requests you make pretty fast. I accidentally dropped one of my diamond earrings in the sink and I immediately emailed April in the night to ask if someone could help me unscrew the sink pipe so I could get my earring out. Early next morning, the repairmen came over and retrieved my earring! Negatives: 1. I really enjoy studying and waking up to natural light, but with all the window curtains open there isn't much natural light coming into the apartment (this is a minor negative though). 2. I'm a an EXTREMELY light sleeper so in my bedroom I can hear cars passing by but it's not very loud, doesn't keep me awake at night and it's something I'm getting used to. When I'm really tired, I hardly notice the noise outside. 3. I do find that the walls are thin and although I don't hear my neighbors talking, etc., I can definitely hear the shower, faucets and washing machines running. I guess the walls and pipes aren't very insulated. Again- this is a minor negative. Overall, the positives outweigh the negatives, so I'm overall very happy with my decision to live here and would highly recommend! read more

I have lived here for the past year and my neighbors have parked so close to my car that I cannot get into it almost every day so far, yet the office has done nothing. I have received several unwarranted, official complaints threatening to kick me out for fights that have never happened, and they have never asked me for my side. Burn incense or cook spicy food and they will say you're smoking weed. The apartments are beautiful, but living here is like walking on eggshells. Don't do it. read more

A few years in, and I still think this is one of the best apartment complexes in the area. The management are lovely and are super responsive by email. I didn't have to call maintenance a single time in three years. The apartments are being renovated with a lot of care and thought. The landscaping is gorgeous, and it feels like a resort. I'm comfortable walking around alone, even late at night. There are always people walking around with their families and pets. The gym is great. I really love living here and would readily recommend this complex to others. read more

This is a really nice place to live no matter what stage of life you are in. The grounds are always kept in pristine condition. The swimming pools are really nice and cleaned daily during the summer season or just after it rains. Maintenance is very fast; and if they miss your call, they usually get back to you within an hour and are very swift in doing repairs. There's a guard on duty 24/7. It makes me feel very safe. There is no pet weight limit so it makes it very easy to have a large breed. Aggressive dog breeds are not allowed though. I think this is good and keeps the ground safe because there are a lot of children that like to play outside. The property is large enough for you to walk your dog(s) for a good 10-15 minute walk. Most of the tenants are very nice and respectable. I've never had a problem with pest and I think they spray twice a year. Management is very nice and accommodating and really cares about making sure that you are well situated. The only con is that the walls are very thin and you can hear your neighbors every now and then. This may or may not bother some people. But they have quiet hours to combat this. All in all it's a great place to live. read more

It's an OK place. On the plus side: most of the exterior looks nice, the pool areas are well-maintained, and the greenspaces are pleasant. Management is nice. Not so expensive for Metairie. On the minus side: there is CONSTANT construction. Constant. And it starts at 8AM (today at 7:51 AM...), so if you work nights, you get little sleep if they are working near your apartments. The walls are like wax paper. You can hear everything. EVERTHING. If you like a place where your neighbors get familiar with your toilet habits, this is the place for you! read more

2/5. My family and I lived at gatehouse apartments for 2 years. We moved in sight-unseen from out of state based on the user reviews, which is why I'm taking the time to review now. Overall, I would say it was an ok place to live. The apartments are nice, but some of the reviews about moving out are accurate. For the amount of rent required to live here, I would say we were not getting what we paid for/what they advertise. Maintenance: Service was ok. Typically, they are fast to service a maintenance ticket, but that didn't always mean fix the problem. Pest control: While pest control was performed, in the 2 years we lived there, we had termites in the walls every year. Carpets: This is a big one. Be fore warned when you move out, they expect to keep the carpet in the apartment regardless of the length of your tenancy. They will find a way to make you pay to replace them, regardless of how well you maintain them. Security: Between the hours of midnight and 6:00am - arguably the most important - the staffing is hit or miss. Pets: While claiming to be "pet friendly", I'm going to go ahead and call this what it is - a lie. You can have pets. To have pets, you must pay $25 pet rent monthly. It's the same if you have a large dog - which people do - or a small fully declawed tabby cat (adopted declawed). If I remember correctly, they stated this pet rent was to cover the complex's expenses to maintain the various dog waste clean up stations throughout the complex (put in disposable waste bags, and empty the bins). So basically, if you own a cat, your paying for everyone else's dogs. Facilities: The pools are nice. However, regardless of how many tenants you have in your apartment, you will only be allowed 2 guests per apartment. Parking: As stated by others, this is bad. You will have 1 assigned spot per unit, and allowed 2 registered vehicles for a 3 bedroom apartment. You have to find a guest spot for your second car. If you live near the office, you might luck out. read more
