Last Saturday, I pulled in to fill my tank. The sign showed two prices, one if you pay cash, the other if you use a credit card. I still enjoy using cash, so I pulled in and was the only vehicle there. As I walked toward the store to pay, I noticed a sign on the door. The sign started they'd be right back. I'm patient, so I waited 15 minutes. NO ONE was there. I went back to the pump to see if they accepted cash at the pump. They did not. After filling up elsewhere and running errands, I decided to swing back by to see if anyone was there. Two hours later, the sign was still on the door. I'm not sure if this is normal business practice, I'm hoping it was just an off day. read more

I give this place zero stars because they will allow people to use fraudulent credit card numbers without having the credit card in person. My credit card information was stolen and was used at this gas station. When I tried to contact the gas station right after I seen the notification of the charge, the phone would ring and ring and go to a fax machine!! I tried calling over 20 times!! Horrible business!! read more

The gas pumps at this place have been compromised by card readers. Since late December, dozens of customers have had their card numbers stolen by the illegal readers and used for purchases of gift cards at Home Depot. Until they address this crime wave, I would recommend anyone to think twice before using a card at the pumps or even inside the store. San Rafael police have been notified. read more

I went to this store because I like the Venom energy drink. It's relatively new and few places carry it. The store is a little off the beaten path and I would not have gone if I wasn't looking for my drink. The clerk was friendly joked with me an even let me buy a lottery ticket with my debit card (not every store allows this).. The big plus to this drink expedition is I discovered their gas prices are lower than anyone else in the immediate area, I'll be back to grab a drink fill my tank and try my luck. I stopped by again for my energy drink a snack and lotto. I realized the snack area is quite small and they do t have much. I was happy because they still have my drink. I walked to the counter and the guy who never greeted me or even smiled said " no lotto on card cash only. I did t bother telling him TGIF other clerks have let me use my debit card. I don't get that rule. Your debit card is attached to the money you have I. Your bank. No money no sale. Long story short my previous good experience was far less this go around. read more

I did not get gas here. But I did go to the store specifically because they had Venom Energy Drink which I cannot find anywhere else in the nearby area. The manager inside was very nice and helped us find what we needed. I called ahead to make sure that they had the Venom Energy drink and to my surprise they did. I will come back here just because of the fact that they have the drink that I needed. I have a diesel truck so I won't be able to come here for fuel as they do not have diesel fuel that I saw. If I needed regular gas I would stop here it looks like the prices were really good compared to the other places in the area such as shell and Chevron. If you need diesel don't go to the Shell or Chevron right close to it go to the Safeway in Hamilton they are much cheaper than any of the other places in the area especially if you get gas and send of prices from Safeway Rewards. When I got into my car and already gone I noticed the peanut butter cups i got were all dried up and looked old. They were not past the best by date so they were probably stored improperly. I plan to tell the worker next visit and see what he does and or says about it. read more

I bought self-service gas here at Gateway Gas in San Rafael (Terra Linda,) last week because it was conveniently located. I needed to fill up my near empty tank but the pump was ridiculously slow, so I stopped at half a tank. The credit card payment equipment on the tank looked outdated and janky, and I thought it seemed like the kind of off-brand station where scammers could easily install skimmers to steal credit card info. A couple days later the same card I used at Gateway Gas had a fraudulent purchase of $213 at a Home Depot that was also in San Rafael, (where I do not live and rarely shop.) I was notified by my credit card company of suspicious activity so I verified it was a fraudulent charge and they issued me a new card. Can I prove my card was skimmed at Gateway Gas? No, not at this time -- but I will alert the San Rafael PD and ask them to look for skimmers here and I'll post a follow up if they investigate. Meanwhile, why take the chance at a pump that takes 4x longer to pump gas? read more

I am a fan of this gas station as I remember coming here eons ago before all the stores went in across the way. It was the cheapest place for gas on this road. Today, it was the cheapest. It is tucked away across from the Northgate Shops. read more

Medium and super grade pumps always slow. This has been within the span of two weeks. The manager says he was going to fix it, but upon the next visit said he tried and couldn't. Gas leaked on my car and didn't stop automatically while filling with the pump trigger lock engaged. I've never had a gas pump do this to my car--even the more distressed appearing location that are also in a depressed area. This is a nice area, and this gas station appears to be charming although the service and quality of the product is extremely sub-standard. Another disadvantage as that this location is hard to discover. It seems that this is the case of all Gas & Shops: inconvenient location with the cheapest gas, but expect some faulty equipment and rude or apathetic management. For the record: the manager here "seems" like he cares about improving the conditions and providing a quality environment, and is not as rude or nasty as another manager from the San Anselmo location, but the results prove that the priority of the customer is pretty low. read more

Very poor customer service. Asked if debit card was same as cash and was told yes. Went back out in rain to use debit card only to fine out there is a transaction charge (so not the same as cash). Then had issues with resetting pump. Recommend Hamilton Safeway for gas where debit is exactly like cash. read more
