Ai said this place was one of the cheapest places to go for a Smog in Marin. It's a fairly new business and the gas pumps are all new as well. This is a well run operation. The guy running it was incredible! He assured me that my 1997 Ford Ranger would pass Smog. There's also a convenience store for snacks, a gas station,a bathroom, and a waiting room with a TV. Everyday I drive on neglected roads and infrastructure, incur tolls to cross dilapidated bridges, and pay the highest fuel taxes and cost in the nation. Am simply baffled at where all the revenue must be going. Nevertheless, when the state sends me requests for more money to do who knows what with... well, I'm never in a hurry. Received renewal paperwork for both our 2017 vehicles from the state, and maybe its the absolute joy of anything to do with the state that makes you cringe, but it just wasn't anything I was looking forward to. Would never have anticipated this, but my experience with Peter and Marin Smog has been one of the most pleasant business experiences. Smog Center Marin is a family owned business in Marin and literally the most unique vehicle SMOG experience ever. Most smog shops are dirty, worn furniture you'd never want to sit on, and an inch of dust on everything. Smog Center Marin is an easily accessed location in San Rafael, meticulously clean, and an air conditioned waiting room (you wont spend much time in) with nice chairs and space while you are waiting. Had two vehicles to take care of. First one, was in around 330PM on a Monday and out by 350OM, smog, registration and everything done just that easy! No appointment, no hassle. Pretty astonishing actually. Peter works with clear eyed honesty and direct communication, and for a busy professional squeezing smog and registration in without a trip to the ever helpful DMV, provides exceptional value. Next day brought second vehicle in, and Peter had it completed before I could get settled in lobby with laptop and wifi. Coming home from the family summer vacation to the fun (sigh!) of delayed chores, needing a smog check, I found myself at Smog Center Marin, and I didn't hate it. In fact, everything went smoothly. No appointment needed, phone answered when I called, arrived to a very short wait, done and verified in 20 minutes, and my results sent electronically to the DMV. I felt like I'd accomplished something! In addition to getting in and out in record time, the shop is small but clean and transparent--the waiting room looks in on a freshly painted and clean garage where they conduct smog checks. The shop is tacked on to a Valero gas station, but run as a separate business. The waiting room is remodeled and clean and the staff here is friendly and effective. They have a $10 discount for 1st time customers with a Yelp check in. $55 with my discount. Wish all my chores were this easy! read more

Looked at all the YELP reviews and they all said positive things about this location. They also have a $10 off if you check in. I went in without an appointment and it took all of 20 or so min to get my truck smogged and then be on my way. They close at 5. I came in about 415 and i thought maybe i would get told "no" since i was showing up so close to 5 pm. I went in and asked and the gentleman said "ok it should be done in 20 min" i waited in side.
