Hello everyone so im updating my Kia review! So our Kia lease was coming down to its lease end. Few months to almost a year we had a not so well experience with Kia of Denville so we had stuck in our minds to go to other dealerships first prior to going back to Kia of Denville. And we did.... when I tell you it was a hard journey not only because other dealer's customer service lacked warmth and the prices now for either lease or finance are crazy. In 2019 we had signed up with the lease that was for a total of 30,000 miles. We were willing to drive it exactly to the 30,000 until we made sure we found something we could afford. Many dealerships let us down. I had received a voicemail from Michael about Kia program so I took it as a sign. So we decided to go back to Gateway Kia of Denville. I contacted the salesperson who has been taking care of us since we started in this Kia, Jon Marquez. Background: Jon is a very nice and patient,friendly guy. Never rude always listens. I had told him about what had made us unhappy but he had said to give Kia another chance. And when the opportunity came up where I had to use the service department (and yes Jon was right) Byron was phenomenal and gained my trust again. I even treated the service department to panera because I was very satisfied with the service. Back to my review: Last night we decided to see what deals Kia had but of course we went with Jon. He listened us and gave us honest feedback. He showed us a 2023 Kia sportage that met our expectations. But then the numbers came in ....the monthly amounts were out of our bracket. But Jon and Camilo, the Finance guy, worked hard to make it work with us. But it wasn't only how hard they worked but how they treated us like people not just a sale. They understood where we came from with our safe budgeting mindset. Gateway Kia of Denville has kept their customers once again because of Jon, Camilo and Bryon. We have brought our new car twice to this dealer for service and both times were very disappointed in the service we got. We will not be coming back. 1.) the service guy where you drop off your car was rude, there was no were for my husband to wait in our other car because the lot is overflowing and he kept yelling at my husband to move but there was no where for him to move and wait while i dropped off the car. 2. I have a 2023 sportage and the apple car paly cuts out. I have brought it back to fix it and they said it cannot be fixed. They didn't offer any other help and now I have to live with this issue. 3. We bought this kia brand new from the dealership and we didn't know there were after market tires on it. The air valves were fused and they charged us over $300 to fix it when you were the ones that sold us the car brand new. Worst service I have ever had from a dealership. read more

Back up camera works when it wants, passenger side sun visor fell off when pulled it down. License plates are a month and a half overdue. I've had numerous issues with Performance Kia in Denville, NJ, but the latest one is the most outrageous. My 2019 Kia Sorento has been randomly not starting since January 1, 2024. I brought it in, and after keeping my vehicle for 3 days, they couldn't find the problem. Then I received a letter from Kia America stating that the issue is related to the high-pressure fuel pump--clearly the reason why my car won't start. Despite this, Performance Kia refused to replace the part! I'm beyond frustrated, especially since it's extremely inconvenient and unsafe when your vehicle doesn't start unexpectedly. What's worse is that they let me leave their dealership with a car that could fail at any time, putting me and my children in danger. This is completely unacceptable and shows an alarming disregard for customer safety. I cannot recommend this service center and strongly urge others to reconsider taking their vehicle here. read more

we bought our 2020 Kia Telluride in March, certified pre owned. Joe our sales person was great, easy to work with, and responsive. (the only good part about our entire experience) since our car is a certified pre owned it's supposed to come with 2 sets of keys, which they only had one. The person handling the sale and loan (Hany) who's since quit or fired told us since we live 4.5 hours away they would send us a key and have another Kia dealership program it for us, which was also stated by Joe our sales person.. the car had been there for over a month so a extra key should have been made previously. Then our license plates expire 4/25... to which they blame on us for unpaid taxes, that wouldn't have been owed if they were registered in time as well as lapse in insurance a month later, because we had gotten a new insurance and they had the old one on file... all of these were cleared up that day with DMV, sent to the manager... with no response besides "we will call you back" which they didn't. We called every single week to a point where they were ignoring our calls and we had to call from our children's phones. (which they deny) here it is June 9th and they say i will finally have my plates tomorrow June 10th.. we shall see.. I've been driving in this car for months, with my 6 children with expired plates praying we don't get pulled over. This has been the absolute worst experience buying a car we've ever endured. stay FAR away from them! read more

I am a repeat customer with Performance Kia's predecessor, Gateway Kia. I had a seemingly good experience previously with my 2021 Kia Sorrento and returned March 30th after responding to a call from a telemarketer about getting out of my lease early and getting into a new car. I returned on a day that my previous Salesperson Joe S was working. I ended up going into and re-leasing a new 2023 Kia Sorento Hybrid. I had never leased a car before, prior to my 2021 car and wasnt sure how the re-leasing process works. I was told by my Salesperson, Joe, his Sales Manager, Nelson and the Business Manager that when I re-lease a new car, I will owe nothing on my returned 2021 Kia Sorrento. They told me and put it in writing that I dont owe anything. Well its July 2nd, over 3 months and I still have a balance owed on my 2021 car. I emailed and called the Sales Manager, Nelson Badilla many times and he has never returned my call even once. I have been messaging and have spoken to my salesperson, Joe for over a month and have gotten no resolve. Ive gotten several letter from Kia and get collection calls everyday and the $300 plus dollars owed is on my credit report and in less then 2 weeks will be in default. I even returned to the dealer, the following week after getting my car to Nelson and he gave me another copy of the We Owe form and attached his business card and wrote you owe nothing on 2021 Sorrento. I spoke to Nelson again this morning and he assured me he would resolve today and promised he wouid call me back and again he never did. i have worked for Dept of Labor for over 20 years and have treated people with respect and always been fair. The experience that I have had is terrible and shows no regard and respect. I have all the emails, messages and paperwork showing that i will owe nothing on my car. I dont want to post it, but have it. Its sad, nothing is going to be done. The car is re-leased and I am out of luck. read more

Back in May 2021, I wanted to test drive a Kia Niro. This process was easy and pleasant actually. I wish I remembered the name of the sales person we dealt with. He was fine in person. They didn't have the (used) car I wanted in stock, but he said to email him and we'd be in touch and he'd keep an eye out. I wasn't in a super rush, but was serious about buying. The salesman never responded to my calls or emails. Oh well, I went somewhere else, got a great car. Exactly the car I wanted. I chalked it up to one poor experience. Then today happened. I called today to see if I could get a service appointment because my check engine light came on this morning - not only did I sit on hold for 15 minutes, but the woman told me the soonest "drop off" appointment I could get, was Wednesday at 7am or 12pm. I asked how long it would take for a diagnostic and she said "Hours, you have to drop it off and leave" and do what? Take a bus home? Wait 40 min for a $50 Uber? I said I'd have to wait for my husband to get home to pick me up after work (I mean truly, what other option do I have?) and was told I wasn't "allowed" to wait and the next "wait" appointment was next week. This wasn't routine maintenance. I need to be able to drive this car every single day, I cannot wait a week to find out of it's serious or not. So, I called Kia of Riverdale who told me to swing on by and got me in and out for a simple, not at all serious, and easy fix, in 15 minutes. So, avoid Denville, just go to Riverdale. read more

Today I went and picked up my brand new, custom-ordered, 2022 KIA Telluride.. just not from this awful place. I needed a car at the beginning of the shortage, not realizing what was going on. I wanna say it was May/June, but it could have been earlier. We went to some Jeep dealers and talked about possibly putting down a deposit and ordering. However, my husband was impressed with the reports and reviews for the Telluride, so we wanted to pop into Denville. First, we got this huge spiel about there's no inventory, which was probably about the last truthful statement we heard. They were completely disinterested in helping - instead, they stood around the front desk pumping us full of misinformation. We were told that yes, "dealers will take your money for a deposit but good luck ever seeing a car" and not to "fall for that." I guess it should have been a red flag, but instead I trusted him and after some insistence on my part, we left our number for when a Telluride was available for a test drive. We got called, and even though it wasn't the correct trim-level or package, we still went to test ride and it was beautiful. I loved it. I was 100% committed to buying a Telluride from Sam. They stuck by everything they said previously. It was impossible to order. We had to sit and wait for the lottery to strike. They told me they had no idea when any would be coming and even if they did know something was coming, they wouldn't know color/trim level. They called us a few times with vehicles that weren't close to what I wanted, and sometimes it was "you need to come right now with a check if you want this." I didn't want to pay tens of thousands for something I was not completely happy with. I got frustrated in September and we drove out to another dealership (I'll leave a review for them as well). We walked in and sat down just before closing, and the salesman pulled up the website and started checking off everything we wanted. Then he said, "alright, this is the total number, give me a check for $5000 and you'll see it probably around March.. maybe sooner, but not before January." We were dumbfounded - what?! We were told that they couldn't take a deposit and order vehicles. The guy laughed and the GM held up a file box BURSTING with files - they were for Tellurides ALONE. Turns out, this is how KIA wants it and how they are set up. We received another call from Denville a few weeks ago letting us know that there was a vehicle in that was *actually* close to what we wanted. My husband talked with him and because they are so limited and wanted, they got to pricing. He gave a price much higher than MSRP. My husband asked about the mark-up, for which he was told wasn't a "mark-up." It's because it's a Telluride and everyone is doing it. They're charging more than MSRP, but it isn't a mark-up. Ok guy. I have my MBA. Don't tell me it's not a mark-up. This put the nail in the coffin for us. What a completely dishonest company. If you don't want to operate like other dealerships, fine. Just don't lie about it. This past week, I got a call and sure enough, my Telluride was there, just as I had ordered it. The GM at Denville outright lied to our faces. We went to the dealership this morning and we were in and out within 2 hours. That included a tour of the service shop and how to handle arrival & scheduling. He also taught us how to use everything in my new vehicle. I left in the car that I actually wanted, that I could have 6 months earlier if Denville didn't pull that crap. And guess what? I paid MSRP. That's it. There was no "extra fee" because it was a Telluride, or because everyone was doing it. What I paid is what was on the sticker. tldr; Denville Kia is full of lying liars and it disgusts me. read more

I leased a car from this company. I had an issue with the temperature. They fixed it right away. They were kind and helpful.

I have been to most of the Kia Dealers within a twenty mile radius and this so far is the only one that I didn't feel was rude, condescending and made you feel like you were at their mercy. The team in the service department helped me with what I needed done. It took a little longer than expected but only because they didn't have the part in stock. Very disappointing interaction with this dealership. Went into the dealership and sat with Mike and in 45 minutes, we had gotten no where. I said "look forward to hearing back from you or John regarding our trade in" and crickets. I had to call back the next day and speak with John. Spoke with him twice on the 30th and he said he will get it down. Then crickets again. It's a shame since I was ready to take a Sorento off of their lot but they were not motivated enough to make that work. I'd recommend going to anther Kia dealership. read more

The salesman Jon M and his manager Calvin were very nice and really the best part of my entire experience. The finance guy, Greg, is the reason I removed stars, he threw a ton of numbers at us we counter offered and he counter offered and now looking over the paperwork it's not exactly what we agreed on. It's +$10 a month difference but also 36k miles less then his starting offer. I am deeply bothered by this. The service guys were really nice and professional and I'm sure I won't have any issues there. It's just the finance guy, Greg. Please don't bother with THIS guy!! Update: Greg called to MAKE me understand this deal! I told him how I felt and where it went wrong however him making me understand is by yelling at me on the phone. He also said he would send a photo of a paper we initialed that had multiple offers he wrote down and crossed out and wrote over but we never received. While yelling at us he made it very clear he would not change anything to correct this. This isn't the way anyone should do business and I do not recommend Gateway Kia. Had gone to another dealer yesterday morning and wrote a 1 star review. Was not in a good mood but decided to call them and see if they had the vehicle ai wanted. They did! I told them I would be there in 25 min and to please get the car ready. We also discussed the exact price and believe it or not, they were telling the truth! Everyone was fantastic, especially the salesman, Thomas. Yes, I was there about 3 hours but enjoyed every minute. 2 services in a row they were supposed to rotate my tires and both times they didn't but still charged me. Didn't even put air in the tires. Brought my Optima in for an oil change and tire rotation in Oct '21. After I picked it up I noticed that the tire pressure for tire was still the same. This means that they didn't rotate the tires nor did they put air in them. The service department was closed at the time so i didn't call to let them know and then kept forgetting about it when i had the chance to call them. Figured i would just mention it to them the next time I had to bring it in for service expecting them to make it right. March i brought my car back for an oil change and tire rotation. Before getting out of the car i took a picture of the tire pressure reading on the dash just in case. I told the service adviser what happened. She looked at the previous receipt and that said it was done. i told her wasn't and how i knew. She told me that it would be done. I was expecting her tell me that there would be no charge this time but she didn't. Latter that afternoon i picked up the car. As soon as i walked up to my car i saw the plug in the tire that was put in the day before by a local mechanic. it was in the same wheel well. Obviously the tires weren't rotated and the front tires were worn more than than the rear which is why i want them rotated in the first place. I told the person i showed the guy in the service department and told i want my money back for both times. He gave me a refund for this service but not the other, i was told that the service advisor would have to take care of it and that she would give me call the next day. Never got a call and had to call them myself. I was told they want to lookout security cameras in the garage to see if it was done or not but the person that can do that was not available and would be in the next day. The next day no one called so i called the following day. First call i was forwarded to VM. The same the second time. The third time i asked to speak to the manager of the dealership and got the run around. Finally talked to someone and they told me that they would call back in 20 mins after they look at the security cameras after telling me that they would have to fire who ever the mechanic was. It's been over a week and still havent heard from them. It was bad enough that they didn't do what they were supposed to but the way it was handle was much worse. Mechanic should be the last person to be fired. They never even offered to do the job. Because of how they handled it i will no longer do business with them. They can keep the 30 dollars. They are going through a transition and renovation. For service: I have to admit the service guy was quite friendly...almost overly personable. It was a little different than what I have experienced at other dealerships. The no cost oil changes are true to form. No hidden BS. For sales: We liked the sales guy we leased her Soul from. What we didn't like was the other BS people that f'd up the paperwork and asked us to come back to resign about a month later...seriously? They never sent the plates. They didn't even apologize for their screw up. And we had to pay some BS fee to boot! We know in the future we will not be re-leasing from this place. Poor selling practices. 0 STARS. Buyers be aware of scamming at this place!!!!. I found a used vehicle on their site. Please see the picture listed on their site as my proof. I called them and spoke with the person name Kevin e sales. I confirmed with Kevin the availability of the vehicle and the price. When I came to the dealership I was greeted by a person name Mike. I showed Mike the listing and the price of the vehicle. I had to wait about 30 minutes until they got the keys so I could take the car for a test drive. When I returned to the dealership I advised Mike that I like the vehicle and ready to pay cash for it. He appeared hesitant to confirm the listed price and went to speak with the manager. After another 20 minutes of my time Mike returned and gave me absolutely a different price which was at around $17,500. I told him that I don't understand why the price of the vehicle is different than the one listed on their site. Mike also said that they made a mistake and listed a wrong price. I told Mike that I called and confirmed the vehicle price and also showed Mike the vehicle and the price upon my arrival to the dealership.i told then that I felt scammed and my time waisted for 2 hours. Service has always been a challenge, but recently absolutley horrible. Given recent events im confident they charge people and then dont fix things as they indicate. My kia has had its share of problems (gps electrical issues, sunroof motor, 4 wheel drive didnt work, gas leak) more than it should for being a 2014. But LOVE the car so would have been worth it if it weren't for the following: - Pre paid oil change deal= mistake. You have to schedule in advance and then plan to wait 2 hours. -Numerous times, parts that were ordered to fix things came in wrong delaying process. (May not have been their fault.) -paid for back windshield wiper to be replaced which never was done. (Took a week and half to get car back bc of wrong ordered part for something else so I forgot all about this til it rained the next time and went to use it) -diagnostic fees. I brought my car in as sunroof wouldn't close on and off. Worked there. When I brought it home and it happened again I had to take a video for proof. While fixing motor they accidently glued my sunvisor shut! Because this was a week later, i had to make 40 min drive back to drop car off yet again. - they were going to fix it and assumed responsibility but then only patched the damage they did and they couldn't garantee the thinner patched liner wouldn't tear (even for a year.) I was worried it would tear, which fabric damage spreads- this could be expensive down road out of my pocket and could also affect trade in if it got bad. They did end up replacing it fully per my request (the right way). I picked it up, and they left the plastic damage- No big deal to me but again should have been corrected in full all together from the start. - a few months before the above, i had my car there for buttons that weren't working, a panel that was coming off and a few other things. I had to pay 60 or 90 dollars for a clip to be fixed to keep side panel up. FINAL STRAW! HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE- **today panel coming off. It uncovered that they never fixed the problem I paid for. ***called to express concern not wanting to bring my car back for the 4th time in 3 months after all my headache. Service manager JOE RIBELO didnt even try to help me or let me finish my sentence. I asked for reimbursement instead of bringkng it back at this point was just going to glue it myself. He laughed saying "youll never get a reimbursement". He "already did me a favor replacing the headliner." (Yes the headliner that was ruined because they glued my visor shut while replacing sunroof motor!) He was screaming at me when i brought to his attention that wasn't a favor, that was fixing something they did. He completely didnt even try, just lost his mind. So i hung up and called kia national. Ultimately it's upsetting. Love my kia. Got 75,000 almost on it, would love to trade it in in few years but I got a bad taste in my mouth from my experience. Absolutley wouldn't go back to gateway kia in denville. If you want a kia, just go to another location! I have pictures. Hopefully when i hit post it gives me option to attach pics.
