Our central heat went out Sunday morning. My daughter who is living with us gave birth Saturday night. I was freaking out because the baby was coming home Monday afternoon. I called as soon as they opened Monday and talked to Mackenzie. She was able to get a crew over there in under an hour and we were up and running an hour after that. Gatewood was able to do the work professionally and elegantly on a very short timeline and get me the right system for the right cost. Jesse covered all aspects of the installation and was upfront with the limitations and expectations of what each system would accomplish. The system has been in for a month now and its an absolute beast. I warm the home before ever stepping foot in it and it stays warm. These systems really are quiet and quite impressive. RUN FOR YOUR LIFE! The first thing you should know about Gatewood is that it is NOT run by the original owners form 1974, and that the new owners are THE LAST PEOPLE ON EARTH YOU WANT WORKING ON YOUR HOME! I hired them in December to replace the old HVAC venting pipes in my home near Yosemite, where it gets VERY cold in winter and VERY hot in summer. They gave me a competitive if somewhat high price, but as they have been around a long time I made the WORST MISTAKE OF MY LIFE and hired them. Without setting an appointment with me, they sent two men that looked like bums to do the work IN A FREEZING, HOWLING BLIZZARD. I called and said I didn't want them here until the storm was over, but was told "this is the only time they can come," They did not even come in a truck with four-wheel-drive! I could hear them thumping and talking in the attic, and they were saying that they had to do the work "really fast" to get home before the roads filled with snow. They were talking about how they didn't have the right tools, and when I called up to them to stop and go back they assured me they were talking about a different job. The short version is that these clowns did the worst job of any contractor I have hired in my 32 years of home ownership. They DID NOT CONNECT THE VENTING TO THE HVAC UNIT AND LEFT A BIG HOLE IN THE ROOF WHERE THEY SHOULD HAVE CONNECTED IT. To complete the joke/nightmare, THEY DID NOT CONNECT THE VENTING TO THE AIR INTAKE DEVICE INSIDE ON THE CEILING so they COMPLETELY DESTROYED MY HEATING SYSTEM IN THE DEAD OF WINTER. A few days later I called an independent, licensed inspector to look at it, and he came out of the attic shaking his head and giving me the bad news. I called Gatewood, who sent a different man to fix it, BUT HE DIDN'T FIX IT PROPERLY and I was still out of heat in 20-degree weather! I called them again and was told that the supervisor was "out pulling your permit." I asked if I had been charged for a permit and was assured that I had. I then asked why someone was pulling the permit weeks after the job was allegedly completed and was told they would look into it for me. I called the County Building Office immediately and learned that NO PERMIT HAD BEEN PULLED. So I did it myself, and called the inspector again. He looked a second time (I was paying $250 for each inspection), and was told it still wasn't fixed properly and there still was a big opening in the roof where the heat was going out (propane -- $2.50 a gallon)! At this point I asked the inspector who could fix this and hired the man he referred, who did a good job and told me I had been hideously overcharged and that it was the worst work he had ever seen. When I told him it was Gatewood, he said "I can't believe they're still in business." At this point I had been without heat for over a month, had pumped $ 230 worth of propane into the air, and had added $100 to my PG&E bill with electric heaters. I wrote Gatewood, requesting to be repaid for my inspector and repair bills, and they wrote me a reply full of lies, misspellings and accusing me of making it all happen because I wasn't "patient" enough. I called the Contractor's Board and followed their instructions to send a registered letter with a self-addressed return envelope, asking for the $1200 I was out of pocket over and above what I paid for THE WORST WORK EVER, and they sent me a check for the full amount in an envelope, without so much as an apology. THESE PEOPLE ARE DISHONEST AND UTTERLY WITHOUT PROFESSIONALISM OR COMMON DECENCY! I hope this review saves you all the time, money and aggravation they put me through. read more

If I could give less than one star I would. The work they did on our home is faulty and needs to be repaired. The weather has turned cold and we have no heat. I called to let them know and had the worst customer service of my life, And when I asked to speak with someone else they said there is nobody else and she laughed and hung up on me. Twain Harte resident built home in 1989 and installed Lennox Pulse furnace and whole house air conditioner. The service from Gatewood over the years has been remarkable, and as recently as 9-7-2017 they showed their expertise and professionalism. Lennox is great original equipment and lasts forever, but parts are getting scare and Gatewood's tech Jason Bennett has all the answers. He had a day packed with service calls and came here from Coulterville at 7:30 PM and put in new flame sensor/plug and flapper valve, and the Pulse is ready for winter. McKenzie, the dispatcher and office lady is super, keeping clients informed of WHEN to expect the tech and if a delay, fixing a new time. I have had just okay experiences with them in the past but they just installed gutters and the customer service was terrible. The bookkeeper is very rude. She was demanding payment before an invoice was ever sent. It was almost as if she was acting like I was trying not to pay. Not sure if she's just having a bad week or she's always like that. My central heat was not working. I called at 8:15 am and was asked to hold for the girl that schedule's was on the other line. After a minute the woman who answered the phone said the other girl was going to be a few minutes but she would call me right back. I gave her my contact info and never got a call back. Called Gatewood on Monday 4/26 and made an appointment for a service tech to come to our house on Friday, 4/30. Gatewood confirmed appointment between 1PM and 4PM. I took a day off of work, and we drove 125 miles from Fremont to Sonora, arriving at 12PM. Called Gatewood at 1PM, they confirmed the appointment for that afternoon between 1PM - 4PM & I gave them our land line so they could reach us. Called Gatewood back again at 3PM & they said if tech stays past 4PM there will be overtime!. I called Gatewood back at 3:45PM - Irene (owner's wife) assured me there would be no overtime charged. Called back at 4:30PM & they said tech was running late. Tech never showed, never called at all. BEWARE!!! read more

Very happy with the service and installation from Gatewood Heating and Air. Working with Jesse and his team of installers and technicians was fantastic. I appreciated that they asked me a lot of questions about our needs and installation ideas and preferences. I'm sure this helped them design the best quote. We ended up installing a Fujitsu split ductless system, 4 zones total, with 2 of the new designer series head units in the larger living spaces and 2 smaller ones in the bedrooms. The units are great at putting out both warm air and cool air depending on our needs. We bought it primarily for air conditioning, but our first use was actually for heat! There was a moderate cold snap right after they were installed and in the evenings we needed to try them out in the heating mode in our living room. Worked great. Now it's summer time, and without these units I don't think I would have been able to use our cabin this summer. It's often 90-100 degrees during the day, which I was not expecting. Using the air conditioning mode keeps it a comfortable 70 degrees and we are happy. Paid $11,000 for the 4 zone system, including remotes, mounting hardware, line sets, covers, a new 240v electrical run, and county building permits. They even let us pay the deposit and final payment by credit card over the phone since we live full time a few hours away. read more

We had Gatewood Heating and Air come to our home for annual maintenance service today. They sent Ludo, ,and when I asked if he was familiar with geo thermal systems, he answered honestly and said "no".He appeared professional and expressed an interest, so in spite of my doubts, we continued. He became familiar quickly, did the necessary checks, and suggested a fix for the surge problem when the unit starts. He installed the "start" and resolved a problem we have had for 8 years when we installed the unit ..Very happy with the service, and Ludo is an excellent representative for the company. read more
