This place in Saint Pete was fun. The live music was very nice and engaging. The stairs heading upstairs were very sketchy. At the top, there is a sign that says use the stairs at your own risk, which isn't exactly a great thing when we're talking about stairs. I came here on a date, he suggested this place, and it was a great suggestion. I will never see that man again, but I will definitely be coming back to this place. Albeit I will not be going upstairs. The vibe is pretty divey , which makes it touristy and simultaneously local. Very packed and high energy. There's definitely no food here this is more of a live band and DJ kind of drinking spot for dancing. Service is decent it's very difficult as most of the time no one can hear what you're saying and sometimes the drinks come out completely wrong. Security here is pretty heavy there's a person at each door way not to mention in the stairwell and upstairs at the pool tables there are four separate bar areas that you can grab a Beverage. DJ upstairs is more useful please EDM club type mixes wrap etc. downstairs you never know what you're going to get sometimes it's mix of 80s a hard rock on last night it was more of a calypso, reggae band. 05/24/24. After a great steak dinner at a very popular restaurant at St Armands Circle, we wanted to check out some live music at a club because it was still early (10 pm). Some of the night spots were closing down already. A local told us to try the Gator Club. We drove over there but hesitated to go in because there were several police cars with lights on in front of the club and 8 police officers standing in front of the place with a big crowd outside of the club. This place was interesting. There was a $10 cover for females. There were several different rooms and areas between the two floors. A bar was in each room, so it made getting a drink fairly easy. There was a sign on the stairs that said "Historic Building. Use Stairs At Your Own Risk." The second floor stability was questionable. Each room offered a different vibe and genre. The bouncers are amazing and I'm close with most of them, especially my boys Chris and Brett . And I can't forgot the best bartender Mike Brown! Friday and Saturday nights are the time to be here. Do not host an event of any kind at The Gator Club. We booked the upstairs bar for our wedding after party and during the first hour after arrival, the music dropped out many, many times. This was obviously really disappointing and put a huge damper on the party. Management was slow to respond and did not quickly determine a solution because they expressed not knowing what was going on. The buy out was a significant cost. Afterwards, we expressed how unhappy we were with services not provided by The Gator Club. Management's response was to blame other parties and subsequently stop responding to emails. There was no offer to make amends for services clearly not provided. This prompted me to write this review as a warning to others. I wouldn't want anyone to experience the same major issues with music that we did, especially on a once-in-a-lifetime night that we were looking forward to for years. read more

The bar is awkward for watching music. Their are 2 bars with the state sandwiches in between with a narrow walkway not giving much room for viewing or dancing. Honestly was excited to try this place out but very disappointed in how poorly behaved the staff is. The bartender threw a drink at me and called me a homophobic slur because I asked for a new water. I then went to the front and explained to security what happened and asked to speak to a manager (understanding that this was a busy night but given the circumstances i feel it would be acceptable to speak to a manager) but the bouncers just blew me off and refused to ask for a manager. Shame on you Gator Club staff, do better. read more

Horrible experience here! If I could rate it negative 5 stars I would! Went here with a couple of friends to get some drinks and listen to music. We ended up only staying for about 30 minutes to meet up with some other friends and a different bar down the road. I realized that I had forgot my wallet in the upstairs area as I walked out. I went back in the bouncers at the front let me back in but when I tried to walk back up stairs some other bouncers stopped me saying they were closing and know one was allowed up there when at the same moment I literally saw to people walk up. I thought they were playing a prank on me or something so I continued to walk forward while I politely told them my wallets up there it'll be quick I know where it is. They then proceeded to lunge at me and then 3 grabbed me and threw me out the bar to the curb. I hit my head and it split open. They laughed in my face. I proceeded to talk to the cops across the street. All they were concerned about was getting me to the hospital which is understandable but not anything about the situation that just took place. It kind of gave me the vibe they didn't care at all. Super disappointed with the whole atmosphere and how sketchy it was. Anyways I ended going to the hospital and getting 7 stitches. Don't know what I did to deserve that but I think the bouncers were intimidated by my height and who I am. Anyways if your seeing this don't make the mistake I made. Walked in on a random Tuesday and was introduced to Mike Brown during bingo. I've played a lot of games of bingo but this was easily the most fun/funniest games of bingo I played. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. My friends and I are visiting from Philadelphia and are all 26 and 27. The bouncers here were psycho and bent the heck out of my friends ID and disrespected the hell out of her. After she showed credit cards and a vaccine card with her name on it, they said it meant nothing. They bent her ID to the point where she basically needs a new one. They showed it to the manager and other bouncers and even though the other three of us were from PA, he insisted hers was fake. They were beyond dicks when we tried to show everyone was from PA. I went this past saturday and it was an okay experience. Going to the ladies room on the first floor was a nightmare. Placement of the bathroom was horrible so you had to fight through the crowd in front of the stage and around the bar to finally get down the tiny hallway to the bathroom. You had to wait an obnoxiously long time to get drinks but the music was good. The drinks were good (when you finally got them). The second floor feels unstable like you're about to fall through any second. Would I go again? Maybe. But definitely not a go to place. read more

There was an older crowd downstairs and a younger crowd upstairs. I enjoyed the live band, but my friends wanted to go upstairs so after listening to a couple of songs we headed on up. My friend was drinking champagne. The bartender couldn't find his champagne glasses, so he put it in a wine glass. Nothing wrong with this, just pointing out you shouldn't expect complete class. The DJ played very mainstream songs. My friends like old school hip hop better and got him to play some songs. When he switched back, one of my friends went to request another song and he told her something along the lines of be happy with what I played and get your old ass back on the dance floor. Seriously?! My friend is in her mid-30s. And even if she was older, nobody should be that rude to customers. We left right after that. People like that ruin nights. I really like the décor and atmosphere here, minus the patrons. We were here with a large group just to drink a couple of drinks after dinner and before going clubbing somewhere else. This bar is for exactly that, a short stop to grab some drinks. Come earlier and starve trying to avoid the buffet or come late and deal with the live band that makes conversation with friends impossible. The mixed drinks here are good, tasty and strong. But, expect to pay an average price of $8.00 per drink. Happy hour ends at 7pm, and I have yet to make it so I don't know what their happy hour actually involves. Sure, there are better bars on Main St, but this one is the closest to the places I frequent for dinner. read more

The bouncer made passive racist comments to my friend, accused us all of having fake ID's (we are 24 year old nurses), told a girl in our group to get longer shorts and that they were "so far up her ass" as we walked in the door. The only redeeming quality was a nice bartender, wish I got his name, but the bouncer made the environment terribly toxic and we didn't even feel comfortable enough to finish our drinks.
