Great dive bar attached to a liquor store. Great drink prices! FYI you can smoke inside the bar, it felt like 1985! My daughter (21) had never been to a bar where people were able to smoke! Lol! It's the best little dive bar in Florida... what more could you ask? Drinks are generous and priced well. People are still free to have a cigarette or a cigar here. They have one of the top nine-ball pool teams. The team competed in the world championships in Vegas last year. Don't misbehave. Don't call the bartenders racists if they won't serve you 20 minutes after last call. Don't bring illegal drugs into the bar. Don't hit other people. Pretty basic stuff. I was going to this bar when Joey worked here. Hadn't been in for years. The bartender with a beard had some Taco Bell delivered. I joked about it. Like not mean joked, like "is he off the clock for his lunch" joking. He took my beer that was almost empty, after I had just tipped him $10 on a $20 tab and told me to leave? I was in the restaurant business for 30 years. If that guy gets butt hurt by what I said, he is definitely not going to survive the restaurant / bar business. read more

We cannot say enough nice things about Memories lounge, will echo the other reviews when they say it lives up to its name!! We had the after party here for our wedding down the street at the Ca D'Zan and this was definitely one the highlights of the night. The drinks were great, karaoke was a blast, and the locals were all very welcoming (shoutout to our girl Sue)! My groom and his friends also loved that they could enjoy some celebratory cigars inside. Big shoutout to Stephen and the whole crew at memories for being so kind and welcoming to us out of towners!! Okay so, let's get one thing straight.... THIS IS A SMOKER'S BAR! I love to smoke when I drink, so it's definitely on my list when I visit Sarasota. The staff is amazingly friendly and attentive. The drinks are very good and very reasonably priced! For a "dive bar" it's remarkably clean. Free popcorn. They do sell chips, nuts, crackers, etc; we were told you were allowed to order in food while you were there if you wanted something more substantial. This is a long-standing dive bar in the Sarasota area. It has been around for 30 years or so. It's cool to come here. The service is good! The bartenders have been there for years (Mike, Tony, Christine). The owner is very nice. It's very smoky in there, so be prepared. The popcorn is delicious. And there is a pool table. read more

OK, first off, I felt like I lost 5 years of my life in the 2 hours that we were there. The place is FILLED with cigarette smoke. People must go there just for the purpose of chain smoking. I swear. And the thing is, I smoke when I drink, but being in there, I didn't even have the desire! Once you get over the fact that you're almost committing suicide by being there, it does seem like a neat place. With a Karaoke machine and all, there are good times to be had! I went there with a friend of mine from college that lives in town. So it was nice to visit with her and catch up. She suggested this place as her favorite Dive in Sarasota. That it is. A total DIVE, but with fun potential. Drinks are cheap (I think my total tab was $35 for 3 Black on the Rocks, 2 Irish Car Bombs, and 2 Coronas), Crowd is young and fun. read more

Visited the establishment as my usual pub was closed this particular evening. This place felt like it was from a straight-to-dvd movie. Very dark inside aside from the pool table area. The crowd was mixed with student-aged pool players to crotchety older folks. Everyone aside from myself seemed to be smoking. Definitely a "regulars" type of place. (Not a stop joint, I mean)You pull into the parking lot knowing that you won't find overpriced drinks and service, and you don't expect much, but the staff is friendly and quick. Drinks are cold and inexpensive even for top shelf. Yes it's smokey, why wouldn't it be? I'm not one to karaoke (much) however watching and listening is great fun here. Yes, it is smokey, but if you can hack that, this is one of the great dive bars in America. Always offbeat, friendly people. Capable bartenders who serve up amazing bargains such as a Grey Goose martini for $5.50. That's ridiculous. The karaoke is only Wednesday and Friday, and doesn't start until 11:30 or so, but it is great fun. The last time I was there the karaoke ended at 2 with everyone in the bar up singing together, then it was out to the parking lot for one last acapella number. This place is a mixed bag. It's relatively cheap - $4 a drink, if I remember correctly - and there's a decent jukebox and pool tables. The place is smoky as hell, though. I'm very accustomed to being around smoke, it rarely bothers me, but air in this place was just disgusting. The biggest issue with this place is the bartender, Rob. This guy is a total asshole; he tried to start a fight with me as I was on my way out the door. I still have no clue why, nor does anyone who was with me. I have been to Memories many times and I have never spoken negatively about this bar. After my last visit, I will never return again. The bartender (Joey) was extremely rude and definitely does not comprehend the meaning of customer service in any way, shape or form. (Side note: Joey hates the Orlando Magic and all basketball for some reason...weird man.) Basically, don't go to this bar! A much better bar is Bahi Hut which is right down the street with better (stronger) drinks, great customer service and the best part is that Joey doesn't work there to ruin your experience. ...This post comes from someone who has seen the decrease in service over the past few months at Memories...it's unfortunate, but reality.
