The Giraffe barn is attached to one side of the house, and their pasture is on the other side. It is the most fabulous "Barndominium" with incredible finishes and clearly thoughtfully designed. That experience alone was mind-blowing.... however we also had the Gold Packages and were able to experience everything the ranch had to offer! Zebras, Capybaras, Kangaroos, Otters, Deer, Homer the Dromedary!!! Everywhere you turned there were more animals and more experiences offered. My children and I were in absolute animal heaven and will be thrilled to return. I will say, our vacation was expensive and it did not disappoint. However, I do believe you can absolutely visit this ranch on a budget.... Probably one of the best experiences was their ranch safari and that is a nominal price and totally worth it! You can see the entire property and all of the animals on the safari trip. Additionally they have fantastic cabins that are themed, and if you have children under the age of 10, the pirate themed cabins are beyond your wildest imagination.... as far as I am aware all of the sleeping accommodations include kitchens so you can absolutely cook for your family instead of paying for the delicious ranch food. That said... Chef Alan is phenomenal and out of this world excellent chef. Each meal was made with love and artistry. The staff at Blue Hills Ranch all go above and beyond to create lasting memories for you. I absolutely recommend this experience as a NOT TO BE MISSED event! We are already planning a return in October/November depending on availability . Cannot wait. Looking forward to being among these amazing staff members (shout-out to Jen, Anne, Shelby, Emily, Chesney, Alan...) the guard dogs, and all of the incredible exotic animals. Thank you, Matt!

It is really close to the Silos and parking here will save you the $10 Silo parking fee. There is not always someone at the desk, nor does the phone always get answered. BUT, the hotel has EXCELLENT communication. We received a text before checking in with all the info we needed. Then, advice to text if we needed anything. Actually we sent a few texts that were IMMEDIATELY answered. Impressive! Even in the largest of other hotels, it can take some time to get a real person. We were immediately texted when we had a question about parking, then accessing the room, and others. I read on one review that there are about 10 parking spots. Actually, there are probably 25 to 30 in the lot. We found that we could park in the lot with no issues at various times. NOTE: Some spots are marked with "Reserved Parking". I asked the hotel and they related that hotel guests can park in those spots. We were told about possible train noise. We did hear it a few times, but it wasn't bothersome. In fact, there were ear plugs in a black pouch in the bathroom should this be an issue. There was also live music in the 4th floor bar until midnight. We could hardly hear it & we were on the 4th floor as well. BTW, there are superior views of the silos from the rooftop and other places in the hotel.

It is designed extremely well for a boutique hotel, and appointed nicely. What's it near? It's DIRECTLY next to the Dr Pepper Museum. It's only a five-min walk to Magnolia: Chip & Jo Gaines' shopping area. But, do NOT come here for the "breakfast bites", which is their substitution for breakfast. Sadly, there are only 2 breakfast foods, both bad for you: cereal laden with sugar & yogurt laden with sugar. And, for a boutique hotel, there was a lack of coffee. Yes, there was a coffee maker in the room with 2 pods for us, but no creamer. It was on another floor. We were here 2 nights, and the pods weren't replaced. No coffee the next morning and nowhere in the hotel to get some complementary coffee. That was odd because almost every hotel has coffee, some 24 hrs a day (Holiday Inn, etc). In summation, the location couldn't be beat. Check in was smooth with Courtney at the front desk. We would have never found this hotel were it not for a Travelzoo offer.

I took the family (loving wife and two children) for surf lessons a little bit ago. The instructor, Danny, was late to our lesson and didn't really teach our kids how to surf. Instead he spent the majority of the time drawing pictures in the sand. The majority of the other staff seemed to reek of marijuana. This caused my wife great concern since these people are supposed to be in the water keeping the guests safe and instead were impaired! The photographer was incredibly rude and unhelpful, telling us to "Go online" when we asked to purchase the photos of our children's surf session. They did have a shop dog who was cute, until he urinated on the floor. The food staff were incredibly dismissive of my wife's order. Not to mention, the food was cold. I requested a refund due to the lackluster service and experience, however, they only credit. Recently spent a weekend here, and overall we had a good time. Like most places, there were…read moredefinitely some positives and negatives. **The Good** There are a lot of amenities to enjoy. The property features a playground, several dining options, a general store, live music, a swimming pool with a swim-up bar, mini golf, fishing, a water park for kids, and more. Most of the amenities are well-maintained, clean, and provide plenty of entertainment for families. The on-site restaurant was actually better than expected. It's nothing fancy, but the food is tasty. Some menu items are a bit pricey, while others are reasonably priced. They offer a variety of accommodations, including cabins, tent sites, and RV hookup spots, which gives visitors plenty of options depending on their style of camping. The location is another plus. It's right on the river and just outside of Waco, making it feel like a getaway while still being close enough to town if you want to grab something or explore the city. They also offer golf cart rentals, which can be very helpful if your cabin or RV site is located farther away from the main amenities. **The Bad** One of the biggest drawbacks is that most amenities don't open until around 10-11 a.m. If you have kids who wake up early, you're left waiting several hours before there's much to do. I can understand limited hours during the week, but on weekends--and especially throughout the summer--the water park and other family attractions should open earlier. There's no reason the water park couldn't open at 9 a.m. The park markets itself as a kid-focused destination, but in reality it feels more like an RV resort with some great family amenities added in. The cabins are another area where expectations should be managed. The descriptions on the website make them sound much larger than they actually are. We stayed in a cabin advertised to sleep 10 people, and with only four people it already felt somewhat cramped. If you're traveling with a larger group, I'd strongly recommend booking multiple cabins next to each other instead of relying on one large cabin. The cabins could also use a more thorough cleaning. I completely understand that being near the river means bugs and outdoor debris are unavoidable. However, our floors were noticeably dirty, and the walls had shoe marks, scuffs, and other stains throughout the cabin. It felt like only the most frequently used areas received attention during cleaning, rather than the entire cabin. Another surprise was that the beds weren't made upon arrival. Instead, guests are given packaged sheets and expected to make the beds themselves. At the price point they're charging, I think that should already be taken care of before guests arrive. Lastly, the overall value feels a bit off. The experience is enjoyable, but it comes across as overpriced for what you actually receive. **Overall** We had a fun weekend and genuinely enjoyed our stay. However, after reflecting on the experience, it felt like the property falls a little short in several areas. The amenities--especially the water park and on-site dining--do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to the overall experience. Without those, my rating would be significantly lower.
