Zzzzzzzz..... Slept like a teenager! That bed was awesome. The sheets and cotton bedding felt like home, EVEN the pillows! I never sleep good in a different bed, but this placed has changed my stats! The room was great. We stayed in "Jennie's Garden". The owner basically gives you "house" keys, and you're on your own until you need her, and IF you do, she's there in a flash! Perfect. This place is not big, so if you're in a state of "ponder", get off the fence and make your reservation! We're from Bedford and we have Fort Worth to the west, and Dallas to the east, so there's plenty to do around here, all you have to do is hop in the car and drive for 30 miles! LOL So, we stayed at The Screen Door for a mini vacay and it was just what we needed. We drove half a mile to Johnny's Place for dinner, and then went to The Silver Bucket for a beer or two. (next door to The Screen Door Inn) Yes, we drove to dinner...we had just ridden 60 miles in a bike rally (bicycle, no motor!) so our legs were spent! Then we crawled upstairs to our room, cranked the air and hit the hay...zzzzz You can park out front, and leave your car alone for a day or two if you're so inclined. Walking back in the alley looking a murals, and visiting the shops on the square was such a treat. Our life (personally speaking) gets hectic, and this trip was just what we needed! Check it out, people. You can thank me later. :)

Bravo!!! If you are looking for a quiet, little weekend get-away in a quaint Texas town then the Screen Door Inn is where you need to stay. The attention to detail is unsurpassed in this little jewel nestled between a few art and boutique shops and across from Cliftex, the oldest continuously running movie theater in Texas. The wall texture, the old brick facade peaking through, old screen doors at the entrance to each room, soft delicate bed linens, exquisite bath toiletries and the list goes on. There were four of us traveling together and after a little stroll from a great movie at Cliftex and a delicious meal at Mitchell's Grill we gathered in the Inn's common room for several fun games that had been laid out for our selection. The next morning we were treated to a wonderful breakfast next door that was oh so delicious. I still have the images of the Inn in my mind even though we have since left and said goodbye. However, I know it will only be a matter of time before we are back again.

My husband and I were part of the kitchen/meal crew and stayed in the Gathering House. The kitchen was quite well-stocked and the extra fridge around the corner + extra storage space was much needed. We did have to bring some of our own equipment but we were thoroughly prepared to do so because Gathering Oaks provided all the information about what was available at the retreat center ahead of time. The sound proofing isn't the greatest in the main house for those staying in the ground floor rooms, but that didn't really end up mattering too much since I'm a pretty deep sleeper. Those who wake up more easily from loud noises may not have as easy a time staying in one of the bedrooms in the Gathering House. The facilities are all very well kept and the kids had a great time with the outdoor activities and the fire pit at night. Would definitely consider Gathering Oaks in the future for smaller retreats (about 40-60 people max).

However, on the listing it mentions there are no hidden fees. This is the first place with a hot tub that had it replaced with a cold tub. As it turns out, they want an add-on cost of $100.00 to turn the heat on the hot tub. I am sure there is an excuse, but it is probably ridiculous since this is not an industry standard.

Recently, I had the chance to stay at Moon River Ranch, and it was a great experience. The ranch is located near Waco, and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. One of my favorite things about the ranch was getting to help with the animals. I've always loved animals, and it was great to get to spend some time working with them. The 3bedroom house was very clean and the rustic log cabin look made us feel like we were truly on a ranch. The safari ride was so fun and the animals were out and several came Up to the hummer we were riding in..the hayride was an experience as we soaked in the gorgeous sunset! I was unaware of this until after the deadline for free cancelation. Upon learning this two weeks before my stay, I tried to contact them via phone and e-mail, never a response. I guess they never intended to make it right. We did not go!! They ruined my 35th Wedding Anniversary!! DO NOT TRUST THIS PLACE, GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY THEY WILL SCAM YOU WITHOUT EVEN TRYING TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. We wanted to cook out, fish, drink coffee on the porch, watch sunsets etc. Not possible in a lodge room! They wanted a review this is it! I would have given them 0 if possible.
