We found a new favorite restaurant in the Blacksburg area. Gaucho was great from start to finish, with a side of very friendly service. We shared kielbasa as a starter and it was great, nice char, juicy and a good sauce. I had the ribeye with the cauliflower Gorgonzola sauce, again great. We shared the tapioca bites which were also good and the coxinho (chicken empanada ish) were great. The plantain fritters were fried plantains, good but not really fritters. Even the churros were special.

Nicer Brazilian place to eat at. Considered more upscale in Blacksburg. Food: Estrganofe was very good but it was smaller quantities. All 3 tapas were fantastic. The chimichurri sauce was fantastic but I was a fan of the Garlic Mayo. Service: We were seated almost immediately. The server was friendly and accommodating to our larger party. Ambiance: Place is clean and the decor really set the scene.

The arrive at 6:30 on a Thursday night and we're seated immediately. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. We explained we had never been here and they were more than happy to explain how things worked and made suggestions. The place was a little noisy but not so that you had to yell to be heard and the music was at just the right level. As for the food, the provolone smothered sirloin was absolutely delicious, tender, flavorful & cooked to perfection. Everything we tried was delicious and seasoned just right to accent the natural flavors without overpowering the meal. We will definitely return. The amount of food you get for the prices is more than reasonable. Come with an appetite or you will be carrying food home.

My son lives in the area and we actually went to this place 2 years ago (it hadn't been opened very long). Of course I forgot to write a review back then. Here we are finally visiting again after COVID, so of course we thought of Gaucho, especially since it's my son and his family's favorite place. It's not cheap, so they don't get to eat there often, but it's worth it. The first time we ate in the restaurant and had a fantastic server - our experience back then was that everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. Tonight we ordered to go. They cook everything to order (nice!) and it was still ready in about 25 mins. Luckily my son lives close, so everything was hit when he got it home. We got the Feast - which is an amazing amount of food - a sirloin steak, ribeye, chicken thighs, pork chop, both sausages they offer (kielbasa and Campiero - a made in house pork & bacon sausage) and chicken hearts. We chose the house salad, and the Estrogonofe. We also ordered 3 Square Meals (one sirloin, one ribeye and one Camperio). We also ordered the tapas tour as an appetizer. We had several dipping sauces - the standouts were the chutney (so fresh and with a depth of flavor that you can tell it's homemade. The finish is spicy, but not over powering), the chimichurri and the Caulizola (a cauliflower and Gorgonzola blend). The food was as good as we remembered! The steaks were cooked perfectly! The bean stew is amazing - so comforting. The Camperio was a little dry, but the kielbasa was super yummy! I am a big fan of the house salad - the dressing is refreshing. But I have to say, my favorite was the Estrogonofe! This was our first time having it and oh my! The hint of sherry was perfect. The next time we go, that is going to be my choice. This is such a welcome choice for the area - it's definitely different then other places. I also love that it's locally owned. We'll definitely be back when in the area again, and I know my son will continue to celebrate special occasions with Gaucho's food!

I remember my visit was a special one as it was busy, yet the service and food were impeccable. Bull & Bones put their best foot forward that night and I left Blacksburg thinking that B&B was one reliable dining spot. Neal & I returned on 11/15/25 to check out Tech's football game at Florida State (our hotel wasn't televising the game). We were in town to check out VT v. Charlotte - a basketball game that featured some promising young talent for the Hokies. Of course, I arrived at B&B with high hopes since my previous experience was a memorable one. Unfortunately, my latest visit wasn't quite as good. The evening began well enough - there were plenty of available seats at the bar and we were greeted almost immediately. Our server was nice and pleasant, and returned with our drink orders promptly. We took a few minutes to look over the menu and we were able to order without issue. We weren't in a rush, and the vibe was fairly chill. I didn't expect top tier service, but there were stretches in which an employee couldn't be located in order to get continued service. For example, our server was cut (yet no one informed us) - we didn't see her after she took our dinner orders. I looked around constantly to ask for another round of drinks, but she wasn't around. While waiting for our entrees, what appeared to be the manager on duty stopped by to tell us that our entrees may take a while because our ticket was sent to the kitchen right behind a 40-top's order. He was apologetic, but we were cool with it because of the game. Surprisingly, our food arrived less than 10 minutes after the manager's table visit - we probably wouldn't have noticed anything was wrong if he hadn't said anything. I appreciated the transparency, though. I saw it as one of the evening's highlights. After the food arrived, it was a constant struggle to find any available server (as a reminder, no one told us she was cut). Refills and/or more rounds of drinks were held to a minimum. That irked me - it got to the point where I went to bar whenever I needed something (I wouldn't have minded doing that during the visit, but they set the expectation by providing table service - meaning I want table service for the duration). Neal ordered wings, while I decided to go big with a ribeye. Neal devoured his entree but I wasn't happy with mine. I ordered the ribeye rare - it came out nearly well-done. My entree came with two sides - I ordered sweet potato fries and rice. The sweet potato fries were overcooked and burnt. I tried one fry and one fry only because it was charred and inedible. The rice wasn't much better as it was cold and mushy. Since a garlic parm fries appetizer was already at our table, I loaded up on that since they were pretty good. The steak was passable since it wasn't completely dry, so I ate about half of that before I became full. So, B&B was a miss, imo, this time around. It would be easy to dismiss this as things going haywire during a busy Saturday night dinner service but, outside of the 40-top, they were empty. So, this visit felt like B&B's quality has gone downhill. I hope this isn't the norm for B&B because they honestly are a good place. But after time, some businesses lose their focus, and it felt like B&B reached that stage. Hopefully they can re-evaluate, reinvent, refocus and improve, but if their food quality continues to suffer, they won't last. Thank you, Bull & Bones. JV

The Cellar is one of those restaurants where you might wonder, "Do they have ...?" And the answer…read morewill probably be, "Yes, they do have that on the menu." They have gyros, meatball subs, pizza, burgers, crab cakes, kabobs, chicken parmesan and lots more. I get a little squinky when I see a multiple-page menu with lots of random foods on it. But I visited with a group, and so I was locked into this place, whether I liked it or not. A quick internet and Yelp search told me that the things to get at The Cellar are the Greek gyro and the pizzas. I didn't want a whole pie just for myself, so I ordered the gyro. The Greek gyro was really good! It is lamb and beef in a pita, topped with tzatziki, lettuce, onion and tomato. All of the veggies were super fresh, and the pita was warm and pillowy. It's served with chips and a pickle. They actually have quite a few Greek or Mediterranean-adjacent items on the menu. One of the people in my group ordered the Black & Blue Salad, which is basically a salad with steak and bleu cheese on it, plus lots of vegetables. It was huge! She ate a lot of it, and it looked like she barely made a dent. When she put the leftovers in the to-go container, she almost needed two containers! It became a running joke that day and for a couple of days afterward about whether or not she actually finished that salad. This is also the location for the 6Pak Bottle Shop, which is basically a liquor store but intensely curated. They have a nice selection of craft beers and wine. There is also a bar downstairs, which I didn't have the pleasure of visiting. Another great thing about The Cellar is that they are open late! Sometimes until midnight, and sometimes until 2 a.m. I guess that makes sense, as they are located basically right across the street from Virginia Tech.
