Our first taste of food in Barcelona was just wonderful. Took the recommendation of our waitress and started off with a couple choices off of their tapas menu, and ordered a pitcher of white wine sangria to wash it down with. First let me say that any sangria I have ever had in the states has been sickly sweet and almost undrinkable, and not on my list of favorites. But, as the saying goes, "When in Rome..." so I decided to give it a try.... and I had to pace myself because it was so good I could have finished off the pitcher all by myself. Very light and citrusy with fresh lemons and limes- pure heaven. So Tapas in Barcelona is a bit smaller than what it would be on a California menu. We had stuffed peppers with meat, mushroom and truffles They were incredible. And practically melted in my mouth. And Iberian Croquettes, which were small crispy breaded balls with a soft filling. and Catalan bread with tomato and garlic, which is a must have in Barcelona. For the main course we ordered seafood paella (of course). Another must have local favorite that didn't disappoint! Our meal was so good that we said we would go again the following Sunday when we got back in town. We didn't realize everything is closed on Sundays in Barcelona and we did not have the chance to go..... a good excuse to plan a return trip in the future! read more

I came to Barcelona with one mission in mind: eat as much paella as possible. Gaudim made that dream possible because they serve paella before 8:30pm. I came here early along with the rest of the tourists. I ordered the seafood paella. The rice was my favorite part about the dish; it was perfectly al dente and flavored so well. The seafood, in my opinion, was okay. That might just be seafood in Barcelona though which I've found to taste fishier in general. Gaudim is one of the best restaurants I have eaten in anywhere and I keep a list of Best place's I've eaten in anywhere in the word. Everything we put in our mouths was world class! Chef Semi and his partner Paquita do everything right. It was so good we went back the next night as well! The Paella was amazing, appetizers were just amazing. It would difficult to find anything on the menu that was not outstanding! We had 5 guys the first night and 4 the second so we tried a lot of dishes. The staff is courteous, friendly and efficient. I don't think I ever give 5 stars to any restaurant but this one definitely deserved it. I've been searching Barcelona and Madrid and my hometown of NYC for the perfect paella and never came close until eating the seafood paella here. That being said to call this a paella restaurant would be selling it awfully short. Our table also ordered three appetizers which were easily the best dishes in out 7 city European trip which included multiple michilin starred restaurants. Dessert was also the best of any restaurant on our trip. Even regular old chocolate ice cream was elevated beyond what could be reasonable expected. Then she left and we never saw her again. No one asked after the food was served how it was, we ordered the paella rice she informed us it would take 25 minutes and was surprised to see the food in 15 minutes. The rice was undercooked and shrimp was overcooked. Since no one asked how the food was we told the person that gave us the check that the food was horrible. He told the chef and the chef told him he was too busy too talk to us. After $73.00 Euro I would find a better place that at least could cook rice and have a decent flavor. read more

Food was excellent here. We wanted to end our trip in Spain with paella and this was one of the places that was highly recommended. We knew that Barcleona wasn't known for their paella (we just came from Southern Spain), but we were not disappointed. Out of three places where we had paella, this was the most flavorful. The seafood flavor was very absorbed into the rice. The rice itself, however, wasn't as crispy as we expected and we were a little disappointed, but overall it was a delicious and satisfying dish. We also got the appetizer special which was marinated tuna with corn purée. Absolutely delicious. It was a refreshing start to a heavier dish of paella that followed. Recommended by my hotel to come here (I wonder why). If you like minuscule servings at maximum prices, look no further. Good service however. Update; Management questioned my credibility (with 64 Yelp reviews since 2008 ranging from 1-5 star reviews). Didn't have a reservation since the place was mostly empty. I just walked in and was seated with my party. I'll upload a picture of my paella for 2. Note the picture looks like a lot of paella but the rice was roughly a centimeter thick. It was more like an appetizer than an entrée. If I were the manager I might reconsider adding just a little more of this low cost ingredient to make it slightly more filling rather than using the word "fraud" where there isn't any (at least from the customer). The paella for 2 was around 44 euros, which I found to be roughly 4x the price (based on proportionate quantity) compared to other fine restaurants in Eixample. In fact, those other restaurants were the reasons I felt that Gaudim was overpriced. The waiter kept on pushing the crab paella for 3 which was around 80 euros. Thank goodness we trusted our instincts and said no. Good job on the sangria, food presentation and waiter service but sorry, I can't say any other positives about this place. Good day. read more

We had the most incredible meal here. The starters were a raw tuna tapa with a delicious cream sauce. The tuna was incredible and got high ratings from our Japanese colleague. We also had a codfish croquette, grilled octopus on puréed potatoes, carpaccio and some Iberica ham. We also had a dozen very fresh oysters. All was superb, but the creme de la creme were the paellas. We had one that was seafood and one was lamb and chicken. Absolutely incredible. If you are looking for fresh seafood and great paella, then this is the place. We went to this restaurant just for this dish. It looks like a giant seafood party in this giant pot with lobster, shrimp, giant prawn,mussel, squid, and clam mixed with flavorful rice. The seafood is so fresh , you can definitely taste it. Each of their meat is just so tight and sweet. Not sure if that is the right description. I might think these sea creatures actually work out at the gym and took good care of themselves. The only other paella I have to reference was back in Florida at a Peruvian fast-food restaurant and it was more of a stir-fry, with a mound of rice and seafood thrown in. But this..... Mind. Blowing. The seafood Paella was, in my opinion, one of the best meals I've ever had in my life. It was seasoned to perfection, the socarrat, which I've learned is the crispy part of the rice, was my favorite. Seriously, I have been dreaming about this paella now that I am back in the states. I am very surprised to see as many positive reviews as I do for this restaurant, personally I found it overpriced and disappointing. Firstly, there were only two tables outdoors that were both occupied when we arrived. We would have loved to have sit outside given the beautiful sunny weather, but settled for the dining room inside. Something about it felt stale and uninviting. Perhaps it was the Phil Collins music in the background, or the lack of conversation from other customers around us, but it definitely wasn't the vibe I was hoping for. We ordered quickly since we knew we wanted paella, I ordered the seafood paella but was dismayed when the waiter informed me that the price on the menu is actually what they charge per person, and it seems there is no way to order a "normal" portion of paella and share it. We accepted because we didn't have other options at this point, and also ordered a pitcher of sangria. The paella came out in a reasonable amount of time, given that paella normally takes at least 30 minutes to cook, but I could say it was undercooked. The rice was quite a bit too al dente for my taste, although we flavor was good enough. There was plenty of seafood: prawns, squid, mussels and clams, but honestly I would have been happier with half this portion for cheaper. The sangria was delightful though, a touch of sweetness and very smooth. In the end our bill came to 80 Euro, which was far more than we had anticipated paying for lunch, especially since I found the service and ambiance to be flat and uninviting.
