Regina is compassionate, hardworking and gets to know you first to make sure you are comfortable with her and the practice.She needs to know you and your needs to make sure that the course of treatment fits in with your personality, diagnosis and lifestyle. You are not just a medical file and diagnosis, you are a person first, then a patient. I am in remission and she and the chemo nurses made this possible. When I worked at a company with very iffy medical coverage, she knew I was outlaying more than I was making. She went to her partners and the insurance administrator and worked out an arrangement beneficial to me (and I'm sure to her detriment). Thankfully, I have much better insurance coverage now. Also, the health insurance administrator suggested we work together to see if I would be eligible for grants from the drug companies and other cancer charities and foundations if I had trouble meeting the deductible portion. There is a lot of help out there, you just need to be willing to do the paperwork. Regina's called me at odd hours when I have a question- you just need to be patient because she has hospital visits to make, patient appointments. transcription and return calls to make.She is also entitled to a personal life, but I swear I don't know where she finds the time. But she does call me back and I don't care if it's 9 at nite- she called because she knew I was worried. I thank God that I could find a doctor that not only put me into remission (knock on wood) me, but cared about me as a human being.

Then, they had the nerve to schedule appointments I never made, nor wanted; not once, but on two occasions, with the last accompanied by a cancellation fee. Also, when confirming my initial appointment, the staff never informed me that I would have to park in a parking garage. I arrived almost 45 mins early to my appointment, and was still a few minutes late because I was trying to find the correct building. A little bit of customer service goes a long way. Most people don't have a good experience and jump on Yelp to let everyone know about their medical issues and the fine service of a doctor; and 2. Many people believe that Gavani is rude. I get it. Perhaps it is a cultural thing mixed with a very slight language barrier but she's actually a very nice person. She comes off as a bit gruff but after a few visits she becomes quite personable. Gavani is very professional. She is knowledgeable and completes thorough exams. I'd recommend her to anyone suffering from allergies. Her nursing staff is also very competent. She has multiple offices (Christ Hospital and Palos - College Drive location) and has a very accommodating shot schedule.

This wouldn't have been the reason that I didn't come back. The next comments are 99% of the reason why I will not be returning. They charge astronomical prices and their contact person, Kim, will make you feel as if you are stupid and ignorant if your questioning their rates and contracted rates with Bcbs. My son was only 2 yrs. old when he started having multiple pneumonias. After two admissions through the ER and overnight stays at Children's Memorial Hospital, clearly my two-yr. old had a problem with his lungs. This brought me to the Pediatric Allergy and Asthma practice next to Oz Park where Dr. Newhall was on staff. At first we saw one of the partners who was alright, except I lost confidence when he reversed the dosing instructions for Singulair. He did pronounce my child's Reactive Disease as Asthma; he also ordered a small allergy panel. The boy was allergic to cats, dust, dust-mites, mold, grasses, trees, springtime. There was a newish cat in the house, who eventually had to go back to the shelter. There was a middle of the night visit to the local hospital ER in Wisc. one Labor Day week-end; an allergic reaction to Ragweed triggered an Asthma attack. I made a follow-up appt., first available, and this is when I met Dr. Newhall. She was so kind, gentle nd caring with toddlers. She was even familiar with the Wiggles, knew their songs. What a delight , upbeat person she was; she had little boys close to my son's age. After that first visit, we never saw another doctor in the practice again. Later when she left to start her own practice, I found an the ad in Chicago Parent with her new office address on Lincoln Ave. and followed her there. My son, now a teen, has been Dr. Newhall's patient ever since. Her achievements are impressive; she was educated at the top educational institutions in the country. She has treated my son's mild allergy-induced Asthma with two or three daily medications. When he would have flares, with middle of the night bouts of continuous coughing, we'd go in to follow up. After I described what happened, she would tell me I should have phoned her at home! What doctor says that? One November, my boy had flu symptoms, fever of 104F degrees. This was during the Swine Flu/H1N1 outbreak. The pediatric practice was unconcerned my son had Asthma and now maybe H1N1; the Pediatricians were not prescribing Tamiflu. I phoned Dr. Newhall, who saw him right away, prescribed Tamiflu which cleared flu symptoms, fever within 36 hrs. Another time I called the Answering service on a Sunday night when my kiddo was having a bronchospasm that the Albuterol wasn't touching. Her partner, Dr. Donell phoned back, said try the steroid inhaler. Success. He is just as wonderful, kind, caring and competent as Dr. Newhall. These doctors are a rare pair; a vanishing breed. Do not hesitate to make an appt. Any negative reviews are unfounded.

The office staff doesn't want to take responsibility or feedback for long lags in information (we have been waiting for over a month for simple lab results) or misinformation (we were told wrong information about the purpose and tactics of a visit and next steps). Not only that but when you confront the staff on these understandably frustrating issues they hang up on you instead of being professional, taking ownership and promising to resolve it. I'm very disappointed in our experience here, and we plan to find another child allergy doctor office, if possible. Food allergies impact families in big ways and this behavior is inexcusable.

I was fully expecting to wait two or three months to be seen, but by fabulous luck, I got an appointment a week and a half after I called. That definitely started things off on a great note. Dr. Helbing is incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. She's totally great about answering questions, even if they're bizarre and/or unrelated to the visit at hand (we talked about grad/med school admissions). And she handles the awkward questions - come on, most of the things that one asks their gyno are pretty flipping awkward - very well. She's probably the best doc I've ever had, and most definitely the best gyno. I mean, really. Nobody enjoys going to the lady-doctor. If you're lucky enough to find one that puts you at ease and makes the whole experience as non-awkward as possible? That's awesome. You might even be inclined to write a Yelp review about them, regardless of how strange it might feel to Yelp your gyno.

I am comfortable discussing any issues with her, and she is always very thoughtful in how she responds, and if she promises a call back, I get one. She asks questions to be sure she understands things better than I might be explaining it, and is capable of giving you a serious talk without you feeling scolded. If I communicate an immediate need to see her, I quite often get in that same day, but have never had to wait more than 24 hours. I can't say enough good things about her!

Dr. Scola was very thorough with me for my first physical, getting a complete history. They were willing to reach out to my previous physician to get my medical records, but I already had them with me - nonetheless, I was pleasantly surprised that they would do it for me. Dr. Scola was very pleasant, and I never felt as though she was rushing through our appointment - which doesn't often seem to be the case these days. She listened to the questions and concerns I had during my appointment, and made sure I was comfortable with what she was telling me. I have also been pleased with Chicago Lake Shore Medical Associates as a whole. I recently called for a last minute appointment for a sinus infection. Dr. Scola was out of the office, but they were able to get me in with another one of their G.P.'s instead. It's nice to know I can get an appointment when I need one.
