I dropped off my shoes Wednesday, 3 pairs to be exact. Mind you, they were minor repairs (2 needed to have the sole added back on (wedge shoes) and the other needed to be reglued or resewn. He initially quoted me Friday and then changed it to Saturday due to the holiday. I showed up and panicked when I didn't see my shoes. I handed him the ticket and then he started looking and apologized and said he wasn't able to get to it but asked if I could come back in two hours. I said no, because when I dropped them off Wednesday, I specifically told him I was leaving Sunday. Additionally, I'm going to the game today that starts at 4 (he closes at 6) and I'm leaving tomorrow. If you can't fulfill the job, don't agree to do it. I came to Gavriel to get work on on some heels and booties after reading the great reviews about this place, but my experience was a bit different. Although his prices are very affordable, he doesn't really cater to customer service. He made me aware that he wasn't able to repair something on my shoe but I explained that I was looking for a quick patch on it, not to replicate it. It could be due to the language barrier, but any cobbler could easily fix what I was asking him to do but seemed very hesitant to do so. Another thing is his workmanship.. it is TERRIBLE. I had the back of one of my heels repainted due to getting stuck in sidewalks and it was a completely different shade of silver and he got paint on other parts of the shoe that WERE NOT the heel. There was also ballpoint pen writing on the bottom of my very expensive heels... extremely disappointing. On my other boots, he patched the repair up with a metal bolt=like thing which was fine but I can tell he colored the brass color with black permanent marker to match the black of my boots. I can tell it was some type of marker used to cover it up, not the actual metal color because 1) there was a blue-ish tinge shining from the boot's leather and 2) i flipped to the other side and thr metal was in fact a brass/tan color. Gavriel is amazing. I grew up in Flushing and I think I remember seeing his shop in another location. I took my son's favorite shoes, black and white Jordan's to replace the worn out heels. I went to other places to ask and they gave me random replies. Gavriel explains it that he'll make it look almost new and I was so happy with the results. All done in one hour. This shop is located on the subfloor inside of a quiet plaza, where is fully equipped with all those old fashioned, museum grade machines. It is enjoyable should you choose to wait on a day-bad, and seeing through the glass, to see this man is busy on you shoes. read more

The cobbler I normally go to is no longer there. Everytime I remember to get my shoes fixed, I didn't have my shoes on me to inquire about pricing. Otherwise, when I see my shoes, I would say I need to get my shoes fixed. I finally remember to bring my shoes now all I need is to find a cobbler while in Flushing. Shoes are cheap. Why not get another pair? My shoe issue is the shoe tap on each shoe needs to be replaced otherwise the shoes look fine. When I first came here, the store was closed so I was disappointed. Gavriel came to open the door and I inquired about the cost of the taps. $10 for the tap replacement and it would take 10 minutes if I want to wait. Of course, I will wait since I can wear my shoes again. $10 for the hassle of looking for new shoes or breaking it in... definitely! He is a professional cobbler. He is efficient and took less than 10 minutes to replace the taps. I did check out the work while he went to get the buff to wipe my shoes. My shoes look brand new. He polish and shine the shoes too before returning the shoes to me. That is fantastic since truthfully I wouldn't have shine my shoes when I got home. The basement level of the mall can be challenging to find, but just walk down the stairs. I come once a week or so for a $5 shoe shine, which I am always happy with. I also had keys made here for $2 a piece after my shoes were shined. Everything here appears to be done the traditional way - acceptance of cash only, gigantic old machines that look like they're from the 1950's still work on your shoes and keys. I was referred here by the upstairs tailor. The cobbler is very skilled- superior craftmanship-- and he is also honest. He fixed my leather pumps that were scuffed/ had a bit of leather coming off on the spot!! Less than 5 minutes and it looks wonderful!!! Perfect, really. He also softened my ballet flats. Don't come here! The guy is not reputable, and his workmanship is poor! Came here to get a shoe glued, simple enough, he charged $20 but when I pickup the shoe, the glue was not holding and falling apart. After I pointed out the problem, he added more glue and some black spray and gave me a sarcastic "enjoy," as if he was doing me a favor, adding that this was "difficult work."
