The quality, customer service and location has gone down drastically since i was here last. I took a year break from lash extensions due to life events. Started coming back in the spring of this year and have been highly disappointed with the work Courtney has been doing. Also had a fill canceled on me two days before i was supposed to come in during a weekend i had an important event. After i found a different salon to go to since my appointment got canceled, ive realized that GBY is not a good salon at all. The new salon i went to wouldn't even do the fill for me because they said i don't have many natural lashes left and if they did a fill on me then it wouldn't last. I had no choice but to have them remove what was left on my lashes and i purchased a growth serum after being advised to take a month long break to grow my lashes back and return for a real individual lash set. I'm extremely disappointed in GBY as they've not only been charging hundreds of dollars for lash extensions made with cheap products but Courtney rushes through appointments and she uses hella clusters on what is supposed to be an individual lash set. They don't care about being honest with clients and that is a huge red flag for me. read more

There has never been a service I didn't love from GBY. I started getting the Active Lash extensions during the pandemic because I didn't want to do makeup but I wanted to feel done up and I became hooked. Courtney at GBY not only does incredible work, making her guest feel comfortable and placing each lash with care, but the formulation in the glue she uses has been the best I've ever received. I am a sweater and honestly not 100% at taking off my makeup and the lashes have such little fallout. Constantly I'm getting questions of whether my lashes are real and I never miss a chance to shout out Courtney. I was so impressed that I went ahead and dove into their other services and everything had been stellar: spray tans from Kendra making me glow during wedding season, Courtney's expertly crafted microblading, waxing, and more. I booked an appointment for a brow lamination/tint and lash lift/tint with "any available artists."last week. I'll start by saying the brow service was great. I forget the artists name, but she was friendly and walked me through everything she was doing as she's doing it. My lash service was with Courtney. Not at all the same friendly personality, which is fine as long as my service is done well. During the first application step she mentioned my lashes were giving her a difficult time and I mentioned I do use a serum--I've had the same service done in past while using the same serum with zero issues. During the next step when she applied the lotion she left without saying anything--and was gone for what felt like forever. When she returned, she removed the product and did the tint (or so I thought). At the end the removal of my lashes from the shield was not effortless with tugging on lashes to separate. The finished product seemed seemed okay, not how it usually looks after and there was residue all around my eye. I also felt like my lashes appeared shorter but figured it was just the new curl to them and I was over analyzing it. However once home and I got a better look I saw how poor of a job was done. For starters my lashes are crimped in areas, they're a lighter color than my natural brown color (asked for black tint), seem frayed at the ends, and are shorter and thinner than my natural lashes. There were also several loose lashes around my eyes. A few hours later, I had many more lashes falling out and in clumps bc of the remaining residue on my lashes. I'll add I am not new to these services, I am familiar w the process and what to anticipate for processing times. This seemed to take far longer than typical which makes me believe they were over processed. The last time I had these services done here (different artists) I was very pleased and loved them. Got the most amazing bikini wax and spray tan here. Both were done exceptionally well, and lasted very long. Tan was a gorgeous color, perfect for my trip to Mexico! Did not rub off at all, not even on my sheets the first night. Extremely even and no lines. I went in to get a lash lift as I have done several times before and walked out looking like the photos below. I was told this was "normal" which I didn't think was true, but trusted what was being told to me. (I will say that the esthetician was nice and friendly.) Then I waited 24 hours and they still look like this. It's also almost 3 weeks later and they still look like this. I called and went in for a follow up where my esthetician informed me that she has had a concussion and "shouldn't even be at work right now" - excuse me, GBY - but why are you letting someone with a concussion put chemicals near my eyes??? That explains why she let me leave the studio looking like the pictures below! You can't make this up!! I was given some castor oil and a refund 3 days later... then they said they could try to fix it in a couple of days, but I was told that they were all booked up in two days when I wanted to come in and that it was not possible, even though I originally came in a week before I was hosting a holiday party. They said they would call to try to work something out, but didn't. So I went to BeautyHolic by Han in Koreatown and she was so disappointed by the technique and how it was done. Luckily she was able to temporarily fix my brows in time for the party, but said I had to come in in two weeks to retain the semi normal shape. So now I'm spending 2x more than what I was originally planning on! About a week ago I contacted GBY asking for the manager or owner to call or email me to discuss this as it's so unprofessional and a huge disappointment, but they never got back to me. So into yelp! I hadn't gotten a spray tan since 2006 and I came out looking like an Oompa Loompa. I recently had a big event and wanted a tan but was so nervous. But Kendra is a straight up artist! Literally the worst lash lift I've ever had. Courtney was pretty rude and left me in a room with an huge full bag of trash hanging next to the bed. Like not in a trash can. I've gotten many lash lifts and this looks like I did not get a treatment at all. My lashes are tinted but there is no curl. When she finished she didn't brush the lashes out so they were all completely clumped together and on top of it all I had to peel tons of excess glue off my eyelid when I got home. She said to make another appointment with her if they weren't curled enough but I don't understand this like why was I here for an hour and the treatment had no effect? I absolutely don't trust her to do a better job so now I just spent $100 on a tint and clumped up lashes. read more

I booked an appointment for classic lashes and Courtney installed hybrid lashes without consulting me. If you're looking for a standard set of hybrid or volume lashes or are prepared to communicate exact lengths, weights, etc. than you'll probably be okay booking an appointment with Courtney. If you're looking for something a little more subtle and/or haven't had extensions before, I suggest looking elsewhere. I recently moved to LA and had my lashes lifted and tinted by Christine. She did a wonderful job so I booked an appointment with Courtney, another GBY lash tech, for eyelash extensions a few months later. I booked to have classic lashes installed, which was one of the monthly specials. I showed Courtney multiple photos and she seemed to understand what I was looking for. I communicated that I was getting them done for an event the following weekend so she suggested making them a little fuller than my photos so I wouldn't need a fill--all great. I was pretty shocked when I opened my eyes to a set of very long, very full, very clumpy, very dark lashes. Something you'd expect for someone who regularly wears full glam makeup, not subtle at all, and definitely nothing like the photos I shared. I communicated my surprise but she assured me that they would look like the photos in a week, once some of the lashes had fallen out. I had to ask for aftercare instructions and kind of pull them out of her with several follow-up questions. I was flying home the next morning so I just left it at that. When I got home, I showed some girlfriends and they confirmed that these were very drama, very spidery lashes. I noticed that as my lashes started to fall out, they were coming out in clumps of 3 or 4, not as singles. They looked so terrible that I decided to go see my regular lash tech who has done my lash lifts for ages to have them removed. It turns out that they were not classic extensions--the fullness was several clumps, not single lashes. If you are getting classic lashes from Courtney, double check that singles are being used. My regular gal fixed me up with a great pair of subtle classic extensions so I know that what I was looking for can absolutely be done. Anyway, this is my first yelp review and I'm posting because I wish I'd had this info myself. If you're super experienced with extensions and like a dramatic look, I'm sure Courtney will be great! This one extra star is because of my wife's technician being capable of doing nails. I am warning everyone that they will drop their regular nice customer unexpectedly because they had a bad mood one day. Let me explain what happened. My wife has been going to this place for a while now because of her technician. One day she made an appointment same day because she wanted to get her nails removed before her regular appointment. She has another appointment later that week. The same day appointment was booked but it was with another technician. She came to the store on time, the white blue eyed lady in the front told her that the technician will be free in a minute, after one hour of waiting past appointment the technician put her head up and said that oh no she is not accepting anymore customers today. My wife told them should she just reschedule, they said yes. After one hour she came back to my car and said basically even though we have an appointment the technician said that she will not take anymore customers. Nor me or her were angry about it even though we probably should be. Everyone in my circle knows that I am a very even person. I said that since I have already waited for so long let me go and ask if they have another technician who can take you. She said okay I can try. We might as well wait here to remove her nails because every other place is already closed. I came back, waited in the front for 5 minutes before I lightly knocked on the door to bring up the attention of the receptionist. The white lady came out with an attitude asking me what I want. I told them that we had an appointment and I was waiting for some time and I was wondering if someone can take her today. The lady said "idk talk to the technician about it, your wife already left", they said that they technician does not want anymore jobs for today and they have no one else. It looked like her and the technician who barely acknowledges her surroundings did not like talking to each other at all. Mind you that all of that was said to me with a very bad attitude, all I was doing is trying to make sure that nobody else not accept us today. I said "okay thank you" and left. Came back to my wife's car, told her that looks like they dont have anyone who can accept us today which is fine but lady is the front has a very bad attitude. She agreed with me and thought that was weird. Thats it we drove home. Next thing we know is that her appointment with the regular technician was unexpectedly cancelled because allegedly I came in, loudly banged on the door, was yelling and allegedly left a one star review. I did not do any of that, but the review I am really living now. If you ask me this an insane behavior not only from a professional nail salon but just from a regular human being. And then for lying like this. It came to me as a shock because I had no idea that we had a problem, I thought maybe they were just having a bad day, thats why they were acting like this. I should have had an attitude that day, not them. It is just insane. Avoid, because they have negative attitude and zero understanding of customer loyalty. I am not one to give bad reviews lightly, unfortunately, I feel I needed to share this one. First, I want to say that they are a very lovely shop and Courtney was very nice, pleasant and appeared very confident in her work. I've been getting my lashes done for nearly two years and ventured away from my normal lash lady to try GBY and their activelash hoping they would just be more durable since I workout 5-6 times a week and sweat a lot and shower a lot. They claim it is more water-proof / oil-proof, so I said why not. To be clear, I'm very careful with my lashes and I know how to properly care for them and normally don't need a fill or new set for 4-5 weeks out. Unfortunately the "Activelash" didn't really live up to the title. I went in originally about a month ago for a full set and Courtney had said to come back in two weeks to see how it's going and for a fill... two weeks is pretty short but I said sure ... new place, I'll play along. After my fill 2 weeks in, she did her best from what I could understand and I was fine with it ... apparently one eye was having some growth issues .. and hey, it's my eyes, I could see that and I appreciated her honesty. I was satisfied with the work at the time and went along my way. ( total for full set and fill I spend w/ tip $218). Here I am two and a half weeks after the fill and I'm completely disappointed with what's left. I've never had lashes come out so quickly and in such a shitty way. From what I'm seeing, it looks as though she put too much glue for one thing ... she didn't take the time to properly isolate my lashes cuz they started coming off in clumps where 2-5 lashes were sticking to 2 of my own lashes, and she didn't set them close enough to the root of the lash ... At the time I was so confused why she was done in 45 mins when normally it takes 1.5 - 2 hours for a full set... now I see why. I see they have many loyal clients, and perhaps mine is an isolated incident, but I found it necessary to share my experience. read more

Got my brows microbladed and shaded by the ever so lovely, Mayra! Got them done 6 weeks ago and they are still lookin fab, couldn't be happier! She walked me through the steps, asked if I had preferences, measured my brows and drew them out perfectly beforehand to make sure I'm happy with the shape and she got it down to the T! It was a 4-5 hour process well worth it. Mayra is the sweetest, and she really listens to what you want. I went with the medium brown shade, and I'm glad I did. GBY offers a lot of different beauty services ranging from eyelash extensions (which I usually go there for), waxing, tanning and more but last weekend I went in for a facial with Lesley. She is so lovely and highly educated in skin care and she cares. She immediately knew what I needed to work on based on my skin type and the skin care that I needed/ lacked. The extractions can be a little uncomfortable if you're new but it's amazing to get everything out of your face. I arrive right at the 15 minute limit so she's spends 5 minutes telling me now she can't do the full extensions and the worst example of customer service, with her attitude I don't feel comfortable having her do the service.... Less so with her not even wearing a mask 3 days after having a temperature. Cute location but go with someone else, hopefully they all don't have an attitude problem. I think the photos speak for themselves here. I booked in 28th October for an Activelash Hybrid Silk Full Set based on photos from an instagram promo (attached), and decent reviews here. I left in less than an hour (in my experience full lash sets take much longer 2-2.5hrs when applied with care, on each individual lash) with clumps and pinching, multiple natural lashes from different directions stuck to a clump, resulting in tugging with each blink, and immediate lash fall out. More importantly though I left with a sense that my business meant very little. I don't ever write bad reviews, and especially because this is a women owned and operated business I truly hesitated to write this - but from over 5 years of lash extensions and great personal care shown by lash technicians, I know how good lashes CAN be, and this is not it. I was promised a full refund 2-5 business days after I requested a removal of the lashes. I cancelled the removal appointment due to work and now I am further out of pocket having to pay for the removal and new lashes from my regular and trusted Salon back in Sydney. Do I recommend Activelash? No. Would I go back to GBY? Maybe for a facial. I don't want to poo poo the whole business. But there is very little finesse with the lash application, so I would not recommend this service. read more

Claudette did an amazing job on my eyebrows! Before getting my eyebrows microbladed, my eyebrows were slightly different, and on the shorter side (they didn't extend very far towards my temples, and this was a result from overly waxing in my early teens) Claudette was able to make them appear longer, and more thick. In this picture, my brows are fully healed after the 1st session & I am not wearing any brow makeup. Most days I get away with no makeup entirely and I love knowing i can wake up with flawless brows. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is clean and stylish. I can't wait to come back and have them retouched. My short, mismatched eyebrows thank you so much! The woman who did my brows was THE most inattentive person who has ever done a service on me. She doubted if she could do the service and I informed her that I've been getting this done in NYC for months and so I know how great this treatment is for me. Well, she seems far more invested in the B celebrity in the room near me. I heard the whole thing. I was really looking forward to my appointment for eyelash extensions--especially because of all the great reviews I read here--but unfortunately did not have a good experience. I wasn't asked what type of look I wanted, but took it upon myself to show Courtney a sample photo. I clarified that I wanted the lashes to be less dramatic than the photo, and that I wanted a cat eye look. When I was handed the mirror at the end of my appointment, I was really surprised to see that not only are my lashes all the same length (not cat eye), they are thick, clumped together (leaving wide spaces between groups of lashes), and very unnatural looking. Courtney did not ask if I was happy with the end result and honestly I was too stunned to say anything in the moment. Right afterwards, I took a photo of myself and sent it to a few friends, and they all confirmed that the lashes look unnatural. I know that the overall look can be improved when I have the lashes filled in a few weeks, but it's such a disappointment to have such an unnatural look (that isn't at all what I wanted or requested) until then. I don't know if I'll return to GBY. If I do, it will be with a different esthetician. read more

This is a raving review for Taryn! I have been getting lash extensions on and off for 7 years, and am very loyal to my technicians unless I've had to move. Trust me, it's not easy to find someone that's either on par your style and needs, while knowing how to work with lashes of different ethnicities. I honestly feel like it's the first time that really someone gets me!! Taryn works fast, but is super detail oriented. She got my lash style right on our very first appointment. Full and fluffy but also light and natural. That sounds contradicting but yea, it's foreal. My lashes always last for weeks as well. I feel like she is also in tune with my mood - we chat or I sleep. Updated review - I ended up going back to GBY twice to try the Active Lash. I definitely recommend paying extra for that because it really does last well! They sometimes do specials on Instagram so that's a good way to try it out. But unfortunately when I did Active Lash I didn't love the shape/look of them. At most lash places they show you examples of all the options you can choose from. You choose the style, the length, material, type of curl, etc. So no matter which technician you get, you just say "I want silk lashes, J curl, 13 length, cateye shape" and you & the technician are on the same page. You know EXACTLY what you're getting. At GBY there is nothing like that. The technician just says "how do you like your lashes?". After trying it a few times I realized the problem is that the descriptors are all subjective. So I'd say "I like them full, but not TOO full. And not super long, but not too short either...." there is just no good way to actually ask for what you want. :) What's "long" to me might not be long to the technician. So I'd say if you go to GBY, bring in some photo examples of what you like! And if you find a technician who does the style you like, just keep going back to them. Otherwise - I think it leaves too much up to guesswork. read more

Unfortunately I was left with a pretty unattractive spray tan from the silver lake location. My stomach looked like it was fuzzy or had stretch marks as there was an odd pattern to it. My right arm had a long, obvious streak. My feet were super overdone and orange where I had to scrub and scrub to encourage some normalcy. The girl that did it was nice - she made me feel comfortable. But, I was in a tent that's too small and the spray gun just didn't seem like it was spraying the way it needed to. I've seen GBY have little beauty stations at some events that I've been to for the last year and kept making a mental note to make an appointment with Courtney but I always forgot. I see posts of her eyelashes ALL OVER my Facebook and IG feed, obviously my friends are addicted. I decided to go last week before I had a slew of events that I had to be makeup ready for. I got the full set of Silk Blend lashes. The process was pretty quick (mine took an hour) and it was really easy to get to and pay etc. Courtney was really nice and comfortable to be around. Her website gbybeauty.com makes it SO EASY to book an appointment. It's been 8 days of having them and they still look really nice and full. A lot of them fell out a couple of days ago (blaming it on the eyeliner that was used on me) but they still look really nice. I love not having to put mascara on and now I only do eyeliner on the bottom lid and it looks totally fine and normal. The only problem that I've had with them is that I religiously use oil cleaners and overnight products, which I can't use while having eyelash extensions. It's really messing with my beauty regime. For that reason alone I don't know if I'd get them done again, but that has nothing to do with Courtney, that's an across the board eyelash extension problem. read more
