I told him it was the water pump but he said he pressure tested it and nothing was leaking. That was an outright lie as there was a larger puddle in the middle of my car right underneath the water pump (weep hole). Upon speaking to him via telephone he began using foul perverted language at me as I can corroborate every word verbatim. I asked him if he was going to correct the problem and he kept using the same line, 'I pressure tested it'. I said it was still leaking (water pump) and I wished to have the problem rectified. He made no mention of bringing the car back in. I'm filing a complaint with my bank card and may move further to file additional complaints. In addition, Ron charged me $126.00 to replace a carburetor fuel filter whereas I provided the fuel filter and nylon gasket. He said his rate is $110.00 an hour. How did he come up with $126.00? We would strongly advise everyone not to take in their car to the crooked establishment pretending to be an automotive repair facility. Take your car in at your own risk and beware of the snakes in the grass. Gearhead is looking to entrap the unsuspecting. "DO NOT GO THERE". *** This place described as Gearhead DIY Super Center is a fictitious name whereby the Better Business Bureau has them listed as "Gearhead Systems International". The business is falsifying the name and using false advertisement and misrepresentation. *** The five star reviews are most likely fictitious/ fake. We're unto this place scamming others. DATE OF TRANSACTION: 01-18-2025 Amount Paid To Business : $282.00 Business Provided TO Fix the Problem Nature of Dispute Business has not tried to resolve the issue at all, only using vulgar perverted language directed at me when I asked to bring the car back in. Ron made no mention of fixing the problem as he diagnosed the problem incorrectly. I brought him the water pump, three gallons of antifreeze, and a lower water pump hose. Ron quoted the price at $330.00. I said o.k. Upon bringing my vehicle in Ron said he would check the water pump to be sure. He called me a day later and said the gooseneck hose was loose and it was not the water pump. That was an outright lie as the anti-freeze was leaking right out below the water pump. When I picked up my car I was given the bill. The following day I called and told Ron there was a big puddle of anti-freeze right under my car in the middle where the water pump is located. Ron was adamant in saying that it was the hose (an outright lie). The hose was never leaking (Gooseneck Hose) as there would have been signs of antifreeze which there is not or never was. By the way, all my calls are logged and recorded as I can corroborate every word verbatim; "Including Ron's vulgar foul language". I told Ron I was filing a complaint and Ron said Go Ahead using vulgar language. I'm seeking the entire amount of $282.00 returned back to my bank card. I sent them an email requesting my funds be returned in the amount of $282.00 They never responded. All phone calls were logged and recorded to corroborate every word verbatim. On 1-28-2025 North Providence Tire installed a 'leaking' water pump in the amount of $475.95 Account Number: 399149. I was scammed out of $282.00 by a thief that did not perform any work. This business should be investigated. We filed a complaint with the Attorney General for the State of Rhode Island, the Better Business Bureau and with my bank card. If you're looking to do any work on your car yourself, this is the place to be. The people there are sweet and non-judgmental, and it was fun! For $25/hr you're provided a full set of tools (and golly do I mean *full* set), a lift, your own space to work, and a whole library of knowledge available from people that are just an ask away. That's a steal. From a simple oil change to other more complex jobs, if you want to do it yourself this is the place to be. This place is INCREDIBLE!! How did I go my whole life without a place like this. The owners are Extremely professional, friendly and absolutely on the ball. I felt like family! They called me by name and knew exactly who I was and what I was doing seconds after pulling into the lot. The shop is CLEAN and extremely organized. If you like to do your own work to save money? This is the place!! No more will I be laying on my back in my garage. I'll be doing everything there from now on!! It's a bright, clean shop with heavy duty lifts to transmission Jacks to parts washers. Even air tools! They have everything! The owner is always there to answer a question or two. But stays way out of your way if you want. He's incredibly knowledgeable, sharp and helpful and is quick to add tips that he's learned over the years. This place is awesome! I've wanted to check it out for years, and once I finally made my first trip, I find myself coming back so often this feels like my second home. It's a great place for tackling auto repair jobs too big for the driveway. I've worked on my own cars since I was a teenager, but now that I'm over 50, I don't feel like laying on the ground underneath my car, especially in the colder weather. It's so much easier to work on a car that's up on a lift. Each lift bay has a large toolbox fully stocked with common hand and air tools, but if you need a specialty tool, Ron, the owner, will gladly get one for you. He also drives the vehicles in and out of the garage, and operates the lift when you need it raised or lowered. He's also a great source of advice for when you run into a snag. In the last couple months, I've tackled jobs that I would have never attempted to do at home, and probably saved well over $1,000, versus if I had taken my cars to repair shops to have somebody else do the work. To rent a bay with a lift is a very reasonable $20 an hour. Ron, a Navy veteran, is a great guy and very upbeat. Working on my vehicles never seems like a chore when I come here. read more

This is my new favorite place to hangout. I hit a pothole and needed to get my car fixed, but I'm a DIY mechanic who doesn't like paying shops if I can do it myself. Living in an apartment, I have to find random places to work on my car...until now. I found them on Craigslist and they are awesome. For $20/hr, you get your own bay complete with a lift, air tools, hand tools, work cart, work bench, and two extremely helpful, super knowledgable, old-timey mechanics who will assist you if you need help. The shop also has any and all specialty machinery like a strut compressor, tire mounter and balancer, 20-ton shop press, and more. I initially budgeted a 2-hr window to fix my car, but it turned into an all day hangout because I just didn't want to leave. It's nice to take your time and do the job right, especially in an amazing garage like this. Everything is spotlessly clean and they have every tool you might need. All together, I replaced my struts, shocks, and installed springs. When I got hung up, the staff were there to help, and even just give me a hand because they're just great people. Ok, this place is hands down awesome. First off, the owners are very friendly and helpful. From the phone calls to the greeting to being available upon request for help or advice. The shop itself has 5 bays fully equipped to tackle almost any job you can imagine. I was there to replace my differential bushings and install some end links and transmission mount bushing. I had access to air tools, hand tools, any tool that I needed as well as transmission jacks, shop press, full bench and push cart while you are working. He sets your bay up and is there to jump in with some advice or to answer a question when things don't go according to plan, or when you run into something you're just not sure about. When you inevitably forget a step or run into some bizarre problem or worn part only a mechanic would know how to deal with, Ron is right there to cast magic spells. I brought in my BMW and figured I should bring my tool set since BMWs sometimes call for odd sockets but I did not need to touch them because Ron had them all. When I ran into trouble Ron had a contact on deck in case we needed to reach out to him for technical advice. Didn't end up needing it but great to know it was available. This place is dude heaven. ( Dudettes welcome :) . I would give it 10 stars if I could. I was able to rent a lift to install a Downpipe on my Golf R which is a massive task. This shop is stocked with EVERY tool you need to get whatever job you have done. The right tool for the right job cannot be stressed enough! and they have them all. There were several times when I needed help from the staff and was like "Hey Ron, I have no idea how to get this bolt stuffed way up in my engine bay off (Or back on). can you help me?" and he would come over with some extension or tool and help me get a bolt I had been trying to get off for 30 minutes off in two seconds. Nothing beats experience. They will also help supply you with odd sockets, star drives, etc. They have air tools! YES!!! I cut a heat shield in half like butter! It was f***ing awesome! It's a fun place to be where car enthusiasts can talk shop, and help each other out, and there is no judgement if your not that great at fixing something yourself. I had a hard time with my install because of all the bolts in tight spaces, and I had a wrong part. Ron and Co. let me keep my car there all week until I could order the right part and come back to finish the job. Amazing. I am a life-time card carrying customer now because this place was so awesome. I loved it. They treat you like family. The facilities are clean and very well organized and the whole team at Gearhead take pride in their product. You can do anything from change your oil, to swap an engine (No joke). If you are like me and capable of doing repairs to your car, truck, bike or whatever, but lack a garage, driveway or need a lift and you're tired of paying hard earned money to people that call themselves professionals to fix your car and they damage & trash your car and make things worse than it was then you need to go here. Gearhead is a DIY shop that offers a clean, well kept, safe place to get your ride fixed and the people that run it are some of the friendliest I've met & they are not out to take advantage of your situation. Even if you're not very sure of how to make a repair they will assist you, for an added price, but still way cheaper than going to a traditional shop or dealer where you will over pay, get the run around and receive poor quality work.
