Love the vibe at this cozy yet elegant local restaurant. For starters, We enjoyed a nicely dressed Caesar salad along side the delicious focaccia with their house dipping oil featuring tasty whole roasted garlic cloves. We had two generous entrees from their thoughtfully created menu - which our server said changes weekly. The veal saltimbocca was tender and full of flavor. It was served nestled in angel hair pasta that was loaded with plenty of mushrooms, prosciutto and just the right amount of melted cheese. Unfortunately the eggplant parm entree fell short. The medallions of eggplant were unexpectedly tough - it was actually difficult to even cut them with a knife. He finished his entire dish. Ambiance is nice. It's a typical Italian place that you find in New England Price is a bit high given its pasta. Also they charge a credit card fee. That's mildly annoying Service even though I started the meal telling our waitress that we're celebrating a birthday. There was no real acknowledgment of that. Just returned from dinner. My jalapeño popper pork chop was so tender. My wife had the chicken parm. Always a good choice. The colossal cod was unbelievable, and the pesto burrata looked good. Can't beat the service here. Place was packed by 530. Oh, and you can bring your own wine. read more

I am not even sure where to start with extraordinary restaurant, yes extraordinary. I guess a simple start, the SAUCE! Holy MOLLY, mind blowing! I could put this sauce on an old sneaker and the sneaker would taste fantastic. We started with the Arancini, flash fried Romano crusted risotto balls, served with San Marzano tomato sauce and pesto drizzle. These were cooked to perfection, the ball itself, light, delicious, but this sauce, I'm telling you, it's outstanding. My wife ordered The "big cheese" think Chicken Parmigiana with multiple cheeses, and basking in this remarkable sauce, she said it was phenomenal, I did try it and it's among the best I've ever had. Breaded to perfection, melts in your mouth, just tremendous. I ordered the Veal Parmigiana, it's my absolute favorite, I've had all over the Country, including the highly respected North End in Boston, this challenges any Veal I have ever had. Just oozes freshness, you can taste the care in your dish, sounds dumb, until you've had it. Breaded to perfection, tender, almost melts in your mouth, add in the sauce (which we bought a quart to bring home) and it's perfection. It is BYOB which is tremendous, drink what you want, and it's literally whatever you want to bring! Cuts the cost of your bill, such is our case, by 50%. The spread was incredible--fresh lobster rolls, clam chowder, clam cakes, and clams casino--all hot, ready to serve, and absolutely delicious. Went there for my graduation dinner. It's BYOB for alcohol but honestly works great, they keep it cold for you. The food was absolutely amazing. I would definitely recommend truffle Mac and cheese with a chicken cutlet on top. It is a pretty small form factor place but the vibes were great. Wanting to give an out of town friend a wide variety of dining experiences before she decides to move here, I brought her to Sophia's Tuscan Grille. You can hear Sinatra from the parking lot. Inside, dark and cool. Greeted warmly, we were seated. Beware that it's BYOB. We didn't know but chose not to run out to the liquor store 0.7 miles away. Caesar salad was outstanding--the homemade dressing perfectly coated the chopped romaine. Surf and Swine is the unfortunate name for the rich bay scallop casserole with mushrooms, bacon and peas in a decadent cream sauce. My friend got veal saltimbocca and said it was very good. No room for dessert. Very reasonably priced. When we left, regulars, staff and owners were engaged in the ancient art of creating community. I'll be back. read more

Sophia's had rave reviews so we were very eager to try. It is byob which is definitely an attraction. But I'm sad to say we found the food underwhelming. I had the Tuscan boccalone. There was 2 very small thinly sliced pieces of veal and 2 teeny shrimp. The rest of the dish was over powered by chicken and mushrooms. The sauce was ok. My husband was disappointed with his veal parm. He had ordered fresh pasta, which he's had many times and said it did not taste homemade. He also wasn't a fan of the red sauce. We go out to eat frequently, mostly Italian, so this just didn't knock our socks off. But gonna give four stars because byob is awesome, staff was perfect and the oil and bread was fantastic. read more

This small, family owned restaurant is fantastic. My family of four was seated immediately and amazing focaccia and garlic oil was delivered promptly. Baked on premises, it was truly delicious. By time I've finished this review, I'm going to run out of superlatives! We ordered the calamari starter. It comes with a creamy chili drizzle. We asked for a dish of red sauce to go with the calamari, no problem! I've eaten Rhode Island's favorite dish a thousand times but Sophia's calamari is probably the best I've ever had. Perfectly cooked, lightly breaded and fried to golden perfection not one second longer than they had to. We had two orders of the Stack with veal and two orders of Veal Saltimbocca. Large portions, absolutely delicious. The Saltimbocca could be served on garlic mashed potatoes and accompanied by pasta or crispy Brussel sprouts. My BIL had the Brussel sprouts and they were terrific. My dad opted for the pasta. They make an exceptional red sauce here so he was really happy with his choice. The two Stacks were perfect both with sides of pasta for us both. They housemake fusilli pasta and it was wonderful. I had the capellini which was equally good. Two orders of the white chocolate bread pudding finished dinner and i can say enough about it, warm, sweet perfection. A note about our server, I regret to say I didn't catch her name and neglected to ask, but she was awesome. A lovely lady with short blond hair, I have to go back so I can thank her again for such a wonderful meal so well presented! One caveat: Sophia's is BYOB. The only reason this didn't get 5 stars is the noise level. The design of the room is rectangular and it just echoes, but it was ridiculously LOUD. The food however, was delicious! We had reservations for a party of 8 on a Thursday night and were seated promptly at 5:30. It' a very relaxed atmosphere and it is BYOB which makes it very popular. They charge $2.00 per person for alcohol and that is very cheap! It is relatively small but cozy inside, and gets very busy as the night goes on. The busier it gets the louder it gets and the louder people talk to hear over the noise...so it was pretty loud by the time we were done. This was my first time here and I would definitely go back to try other things. The bread is fresh and delicious, and they offered a dipping oil that was good. I ordered the $6 Cesare salad, (hearts of romaine and seasoned croutons tossed in our highly-praised cesare dressing) but did not care for the dressing. It was like a paste and coated the lettuce too much. I thought the flavor was odd so would not recommend that. I also think that the romaine lettuce right now is bitter and that did not help the salad. However, 7 out of 8 of us ordered the Sea Scallops with Risotto (pan-seared jumbo George's bank sea scallops served with a lemon, parsley risotto). $24.00 and that was delicious! The scallops were cooked perfectly and the risotto had a light lemon flavor. I had brought prosecco and it was a perfect match for the dish! One person opted for no risotto and got a side of the white truffle mac and cheese and said it was awesome. One person got the Shrimp Cardinal (angel hair pasta with jumbo shrimp, sautéed with garlic and oil, tossed in our pink vodka sauce) $20.00 . Somehow she did not see the pink vodka sauce and thought it would just be olive oil and garlic. The server offered to change it but she said no. It looked good . We ordered 4 of the espresso creme brulee to share, and it was good as well. All in all, I will definitely come back again to try more of the entrees.
