My daughters shrimp veggie didn't look so bad. My combo was way overdone and chewy. Nothing in the fried rice except some rice I've never seen and nothing else. I don't even know if it was fried. The broccoli was old to the point of yellowing and not many other veggies except for onion. The next day I had to stay near a toilet. I will never eat here again. I don't get the bad reviews here. You just have to know what to order. You really only have one choice for Chinese food in Lakeview and it's at Gee's... so no comparing to the food I've had in Asia. The husband and wife are from Taishan so the style of cooking leans towards the Cantonese style. They are really friendly and cook very good food too. Food is always fresh and at a very good value. I suggest getting stir-frys and staying away from the deep fried food. I had the Szechuan chef special, the shrimp/scallop/chicken chefs special which came on a hot plate, Kung Pao beef, Kung Pao Chicken, and broccoli beef over the two weeks I worked at Lakeview. Fried rice was not very good, so stick with the steamed rice. All were fantastic, had good "wok hei", and had tons of fresh vegetables that make for a balanced meal. read more

After reading some reviews I wasn't too worried about the place. We're from out of town (visiting an AIC at the prison) & I love Chinese food. Food was good in flavor so far, ordered broccoli chicken & pork fried rice. About half way through my plate, I looked down & there was a worm/ maggot looking thing in my rice. I immediately told the lady working, she picked up the worm, said "do you want me to make a new plate, so sorry about that" very nonchalant, as if this has happened before. Me being me, weirdly nice & non-confrontational, I said sure after my boyfriend said "I guess". Ruined my entire appetite so I didn't even eat the remade plate. Then she proceeded to ADD THE MEAL to our bill after the damn worm was found. Anywhere I go, even if they remake, they never charge you for the inconvenience. This gets only a one star due to the size of the portions... Having spent decades as a chef, you learn to recognize when something tastes off and isn't up to par. This was the case. Both mine and my partners dishes were chicken based and every second bite we had to spit it out due to the rancid off taste... When the mains came out, which was quick we needed to ask the server what kind of tea did they use for the iced tea as it had a peculiar flavor. We arrived late to town for dinner (8:30!) and they were just closing. They generously offered to make us a takeout order and we were very glad they did. Being a bit of a Chinese food snob (formerly from NYC and San Francisco!), my expectations were suitably low. Well, they far surpassed those with some very carefully prepared, tasty food. We had pot stickers (excellent), Mongolian Chicken and Shrimp with vegetables and black bean sauce (not even on the menu). The portions were large, well seasoned (not too salty, starchy and without MSG). I ordered the Garlic Chicken for the lunch special so that was under $6, my husband and I shared an appetizer combo so my half cost $5.50. This place is very affordable on a budget, and quite tasty I like the appetizer combo, the shrimp were delicious as was the BBQ Pork, the foil wrapped chicken was a little salty, and the crab puffs were yummy. Wow. Should have trusted the other reviews. I am painfully honest in my reviews. I a bit of a foodie and I have to say this was the worst "Chinese Food" ever!!! Ordered sweet and sour pork and shrimp fried rice. The pork was way way wY over cooked to the point of being dry. The sweet and sour was horrible. Nothing sweet or sour rather bland and very bitter. Huge serving of pork. The sweet and sour from a jar would have been way better. As for the fried rice, I could have made way better rice myself. I have NEVER had fried rice without any vegetables, soy sauce or sesame oil. On top of that, I received a huge container of rice with about six tiny shrimp. Before I begin I would like to say that if you see this place avoid it like the plague Me and the girlfriend were hungry one night we wanted to try something new so we decided to go to this Chinese restaurant we saw that there's nobody in there but we don't think anything of it and we ordered our food get it to go the hostess/waitress spoke good enough English to where you were frustrated if you couldn't speak Mandarin or Chinese so as we are looking for the menu we decide on getting sweet and sour chicken and beef and broccoli is my favorite. The inside is very dark not very well lit and some of it is kind of a pricey for me and the girlfriend to eat there with one plate each and maybe a thing of egg rolls it was close to $35 and the egg rolls were spring rolls they weren't even pork rolls. The sweet and sour chicken sauce was brown instead of red and the fried rice had a hint of cinnamon in it I don't know what world she's from but I never had Chinese food that had cinnamon in the rice. And as I'm picking through my beef and broccoli plate and pick out all the beef and broccoli there was probably about half a plate full of yellow onion now i have eaten a lot of beef and broccoli in my day but this is by far the worst I've ever had if I can return it, but if I was to puke it up and return it it probably tastes better than what I got. Me and the girlfriend took maybe several bites no more than 4 bites each and we didn't touch the rest of it. we just threw it away such a waste, save your money and save your time and save your stomach avoid this place. read more

VERY GOOD! Big portions. Friendly staff. We ordered the shrimp stir fry for lunch and the sweet and sour pork. There were plenty of shrimp in the stir fry with fresh vegetables like snow peas, broccoli, carrots and corn. The pork came out crispy and fresh and the sauce (on the side) and was not too sweet (perfect, not like candy) We went back in later for a snack for dinner (still pretty full) and shared an order of the pot stickers and a couple glasses of wine. BEST POT STICKERS EVER!!! They make even the dough from scratch and the filling/dipping sauce is amazing. You will like this place.
