Such a surprisingly pleasant experience!!!!!! I was meandering around the area after dark and decided I wanted to treat myself after an unpleasant dining experience in Trastevere. Tried my best to find a gelateria with decent, not horrible gelato like I had the other day (*cry). Found this shop on my handy, dandy Yelp app. Shop is small and had a delightful older gentleman running the front. I decided to go with the classics, fragola (which was always a popular flavor with the locals whom I saw ordering it frequently and was mystified), pistachio and hazelnut. My first experience wth fragile- heeeeaaaaven! It was so refreshing and delightful, I wanted a whole pint of it right then and there. Pistachio was smooth and the flavor came out strong and wonderfully. Good old hazelnut was trusty and loyal. Hahaha. Definitely a good turnaround and end to my tumultuous night in this hip, younger night area.

    Pistachio: 5/5!

We just finished taking a pasta making class a few doors down, highly recommend. It's with the company walking tours. After our cooking class, they made a ton of great recommendations. One of the recommendations was when going into a gelato shop, make sure you are looking to see if the gelato is big mountains, that is a good indicator that it will not be good. I am a huge fan of pistachio gelato, try it, I promise you will like it. However, if it is green..... run. Pistachio gelato should be greyish brown to know if it's good. The pistachio gelato here is absolutely AMAZING!!!! My husband and I got one to share and after tasting it, I wish I would have gotten my own. After we got the gelato, go walk to the main area with steps, there is always someone there playing music. Great spot to sit and enjoy your gelato.

Great gelato and generous portions. You're allowed to sample one as well. The worker was super kind and helpful with her personal gelato recommendations. I would recommend their special pistachio gelato!

soso yummy. one of the best gelato i've had in rome. i got the biscotti and crema flavors

This little place has the best gelato in Rome hands down. I should have known that when I saw the Yelp sticker. Small gelato place but always busy, even when it was raining. Here was the typical meal order. Dinner, beer or wine then gelato. We visited this place 3 times and always ordered the pistachio gelato. Their pistachio gelato is to die for, I could eat this stuff after every meal. Counter person was very friendly. Migliore degustazione!

Hands down best quality gelato I've had in Rome, and will definitely be returning to try more of their unique flavor combinations!! I could not recommend the pomegranate pistachio flavor enough, but my friends also tried the chocolate orange and peanut butter flavors and loved them.

This is the best gelato I had in Rome and one of the two best gelato I had in my life (other being Florence's Edorado)! Located in the heart of Trastevere, this gelateria decks out perhaps the largest gelato scoop I have ever seen and still at the same standard price of €1 per scoop. Size matters but even if it doesn't, the gelato is so creamy and tasty without being overwhelming sweet. We got this on the 4th day into our Italian trip and my dad was not a believer in gelato...until he had one here in Alla Scala and demanded to come for round 2 before we left Rome! So if you haven't been impressed by gelato yet - not judging - this place will convert you into this sweet religion! Since it's located near so many great restaurants, it's hard to say no to an after-meal gelato especially from here. --- tl;dr version: 1) Best I had in Rome...and really, ever anywhere! 2) Ridiculously huge scoop that is still €1 each 3) Located near great restaurants, making this a perfect dessert place

    Pistachio and chocolate fondant!

Found this gelateria while strolling through the cute Trastevere neighborhood! I got the pistachio and chocolate fondant flavors, and they really packed the cone with huge portions, which I am always super appreciative =). Next time, I don't think I will get this combination of flavors because I could barely taste the pistachio after licking the chocolate side. Furthermore, the ice cream melted very quickly, and by the time I had paid for the treat and started eating, it was dripping like no other, which sort of makes me question the quality of the gelato... For the cone, I got the nut-covered chocolate-coated sugar cone. I don't think they had a waffle cone option =/. It wasn't that great because the cone tasted rather stale, and the nuts weren't fresh and crunchy. Nonetheless, this place was inexpensive and overall had some pretty good ice cream =)

    Fig flavor. So delicious!!
    William H.

Had the fig flavor and I was blown away by how delicious it was! It's definitely fresh figs and filled with the crunchy seeds ... I'm definitely coming back here :)

Hazelnut flavor was much better than the dark chocolate. Very small location next to Dar Poeta pizza restaurant. Whip cream is an option on top of every order!

Wild berry and mandarin for €2. Both good

Your best bet is to get strategically lost down an alley that looks like it might lead to an ancient curse, and sniff out the smallest gelato joint imaginable. Like, if you can spot it without squinting, it's probably too big. Enter: Gelateria Regusto. No signs, no crowd, just a tiny counter and a couple of flavors that look like they were made by someone's Italian grandma who's been perfecting the recipe since the Roman Empire fell. I went rogue with caramel and pistachio, and let me tell you, this was gelato that whispered, not screamed. Creamy, subtle, and suspiciously low on sugar, like it trusted you to taste actual ingredients instead of just corn syrup. The pistachio didn't taste like a candle, and the caramel didn't slap you with sweetness. It was chill. 10/10 would stumble upon again while pretending not to need Google Maps.

Sure, they don't have as many flavors to choose from as other gelato places in the area but the flavors they do have are impeccable. We did try some other gelato places throughout Rome but couldn't stop comparing them to Regusto. The staff is so nice. Each time we stopped in we had such a fun interaction with the staff. Our final night he told us about Vlad the Impaler since my friend was wearing a Dracula shirt lol. Only complaint would be that there is no where to sit to enjoy your gelato.

Originally a carpenter and ski instructor, Rohregger followed his partner to Rome to establish his eponymous gelateria. While the most adventurous flavors have gradually been toned down, Gunther still promises the freshest seasonal ingredients in every scoop. I visited the shop just across the Tiber from Trastevere. Bright lights and electronic dance music poured from the storefront into the evening alleyway. The interior feels clean and modern. The whitewashed walls are decorated with Gunther-specific branding. The gelato display cuts diagonally through the room. A large mirror and minimal barstool seating are pressed into the corner. Generally, the flavors were sophisticated but traditional (although the fragrant Mugo Pine was an ambitious option), and the gelato was extra creamy but not overly sweet. The Morogoro Extra Chocolate was the gelato incarnation of the darkest chocolate imaginable, while the Ricotta Stregata was a masterclass in creamy simplicity. The Cafe Espresso leaned heavily into the espresso with crunchy espresso beans mixed in, while the deeply flavorful Pistachio was in need of chopped bits. The complementary waffle chip and wafer straw were a nice bit of texture, if not forgettable. Service was friendly; servers scooped countless samples without batting an eye. A 4-scoop Grander will set you back $7 for a total volume slightly larger than the size of your fist. While the gelato is certainly worth waiting for over the countless nondescript Roman gelaterias, Gunther doesn't quite measure up to the best-of-the-best.

Take the advice given on flavors to try. Delicious and classic gelato. The strawberry was delicious.read more

Frigidarium had a small storefront with room for a few guests at a time. Our timing was lucky, because we had arrived ahead of a big crowd. When I ordered and looked over my shoulder I saw that the line was snaking around the corner. Service was fast though, so people were in and out considerably quickly. I ordered the Frigidarium flavor and one that looked like a berry vanilla swirl with chocolate bits. I'm sure my mouth dropped when they asked if I wanted white chocolate, milk chocolate, or whipped cream at no additional charge. Based on the flavor palate I got white chocolate that becomes a hard shell when poured on. Loved everything about my gelato. I enjoyed both flavors with the white chocolate, and I got a bonus chocolate cookie from the Frigidarium flavor.
