In trastevere, one of Rome's best gelato shops, "Fior Di Luna" (can't argue...master gelato maker, Eugenio Morrone has won god knows how many awards...) , is it the best i e had? ... no....top 5? YES! Best sorbet? ..... by far!

    Gelato perfectly stored

So many gelato spots in Italy, but this one takes the cake! Not only is it by an award-winning gelato chef, but this place meets the criteria for proper gelato: stored in metal bins with a lid and no neon colored flavors. You placed your order at the kiosk and you then let the employee know what flavors you'd like . There are some seasonal flavors as well as the classics we all know and love. We decided to try: pistachio stracciatella coffee vanilla THE BEST GELATO. Period. We are talking quality and true authentic flavors . Mannnn I wish I could have some right now.

Nice quaint gelato place. Really great to pickup and walk around the neighborhood. The pear was really interesting and loved the pistachio.

We read some articles before our Rome trip about how to tell what is a legit gelato spot. This place had the required traits. Covered gelato bins: check. Non-neon colored gelato: check. The flavors we tried were chocolate, pistachio, vanilla, and salted caramel peanut. In the nut flavors, you could taste and feel the actual chunks of those nuts. In the vanilla, the vanilla beans. All of the flavors were so natural both in their tastes and textures. I don't even like sweets and found these to be amazing. The service here, too, was friendly, and the ambiance was welcoming.

One of the best gelato places in Rome! Amidst the hundreds of fake gelato stores occupying space in Rome, it was wonderful to find this gem of a place based on a local's suggestion. We got a chocolate-based flavor, hazelnut, and stracciatella, where were all delicious! The gelato was rich, milkier, dense without adverse aftertastes, flavorful, and better than what I was hoping we would get during our trip to Rome. We also tried the cannoli which was absolutely wonderful! It was filled to order, even late at night, so the shell was crispy, the filling was delicious and creamy, and we got to choose a crunchy nut coating.

Excellent gelato in trastevere area. Very sleek shop with such nice service. About 3 Euro for a small cup with the option for two flavors. Perfect little portion for me! I opted for the pistachio and cannoli both great consistency and taste. Not too sweet but beautifully dense and pungent.

Good gelato spot in the middle of Trastavere, Rome! It's one of the cheapest spots I experienced. It was only 2.50 euros for a small cone, and you get two flavors. They let me pay with a credit card. The servers spoke English. They had a line, but it went by quickly. I got tiramisu and gianduia.

Fior di Luna is undoubtedly a popular gelato spot, evident from the line of people eagerly waiting. Despite the crowd, we thoroughly enjoyed our gelato to-go and took a leisurely stroll around the area.

Just literally one of the best gelatos that we tried during our trip to Italy this summer. We tried a lot of gelatos, but this place topped it. This feels natural and organic, you could find bits and pieces of the pistachio and hazelnut (my two favorite flavors!). If you are in Trastavere, stop by here for a little gelato snack.

Mango, strawberry, and vanilla. Freaking awesome!!

Best gelato in Roma. In a quite area. No seats but plenty of space outside. We had seconds.

We just finished lunch and I was hankering for something sweet. This place was empty and had a good rating on yelp so I went on in and ordered a small cone. The employee was very polite and helpful! But the gelato was subpar and not really memorable.

Not much to say that hasnt already been said: Just a great gelato spot in Trastevere. The pistachio and hazelnut are hands down the way to go. Good prices for the location, good service, and never much of a wait. For certain one of the better gelato places in Rome, great spot!

Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.

Tucked along the lively streets of Trastevere, this little spot delivers gelato with genuine craftsmanship and flavors that taste as authentic as the city around you. The first thing you notice is the freshness. Each flavor looks vibrant--not overly piled or artificially glossy--and you can tell everything is made with real ingredients. One spoonful confirms it: the gelato is creamy, smooth, and beautifully balanced. The fruit flavors burst with natural sweetness, especially the mango and strawberry, while the classics like pistachio, hazelnut, and chocolate showcase that rich, deep, true-to-ingredient taste that only well-made gelato can achieve. Their specialty flavors are equally impressive--unique without feeling gimmicky--and everything is served at the perfect temperature so the texture stays silky, not icy. Portions are generous, prices are fair, and the cones have that fresh baked aroma that adds an extra layer of enjoyment. The staff is warm and welcoming, happy to offer suggestions, and patient even when you're debating between ten flavors that all look incredible. The atmosphere reflects Trastevere itself--relaxed, friendly, and full of character. Whether you're ending a meal, cooling off on a sunny Roman afternoon, or simply exploring one of the city's most spirited neighborhoods, GELATERIA alla SCALA is a sweet stop worth seeking out. A delicious reminder that some of Rome's best moments come in a cup--or a cone.

If you don't know what real gelato should look like check my photos. First it shouldn't be piled high into mountains. Secondly the colors should be natural. The banana and pistachio gelato in my photos are perfect representations. On to the tasting! My tour included one cone and I got two scoops of pistachio and licorice. We said our goodbyes to the tour and the gelato was so good I wanted more. We ended up getting an affogato and a few more scoops in a bowl the second time. This was very close to where Julius Caesar was assassinated so we walked over and checked it out. When done I couldn't resist and had to go back a third time as I really wanted to try the orange gelato. The owner laughed as he couldn't believe we were back again. The orange was so good!
