We came here because it was closeby to the Colosseum. It was so hot so we definitely knew we wanted a gelato. I got the pistachio and mango gelato. It was so good and very creamy. I would definitely come here again if I ever come back to Rome.

    Right next to the coliseum.

The best gelato we found in Italy! It was voted best in Rome. Staff is friendly and speaks some English. If you can speak to them in Spanish, they can understand you pretty well. It's a small shop with no room to sit inside. There are plenty of places to sit just outside the door. The gelato is reasonably priced and you get a HUGE amount. We paid about $5 euros for 4 scoops on a cone. We're thought that they were going to be small scoops, but we were wrong.... We all had our favorites but the group favorite and one of the most popular is coconut.

They had the best cinnamon (canela) gelato and their chocolate gelato is to die for. Of course I didn't take a picture of that one. But we did go back to try mango and other flavors!

The taste is AMAZING!! So delicious that we went back the next day to get seconds. Very creamy and flavorful and the flavors are very rich. They let you sample flavors beforehand, they didn't tell us how many we could sample but we each tried one flavor. With so many flavor options it's difficult to choose! As an added bonus, the shop is located on a street directly facing the Colosseum. I loved the fact that we were enjoying authentic gelato with those magnificent views! So it's not only delicious, but also picture perfect location to pose with your dessert or just shoot a picture of your cone/cup with the awesome background.

Excellent gelato and fruit slushes a short walk from the Colosseum. We got mango slushes, pistachio and mango gelato, and my daughter also got a mix of two flavors that she enjoyed (can't recall the flavors right now). Ingredients tasted fresh/real and were so refreshing on a hot afternoon in Rome.

I was surprised by the great reviews this place had considering it was so close to the Colosseum, so decided to check it out! It is just down the street past the hop-on-hop-off bus kiosk. This was one of the best gelato places I have had in Rome! I got the hazelnut and the stracciatella flavors on a cone and it was delicious. The hazelnut was flavorful and the stracciatella was not too sweet. In addition, the cone was really good! Don't forget to ask for panna (whipped cream). I would definitely come back!

Tasty gelato! I got the crema and chocolate flavors in a small cup. Very flavorful and delicious. They also have a variety of other deserts and baked goods which looked just as tasty but we stuck with ice cream. Highly recommend it you are near the Colosseo.

The BEST gelato in Rome!! My husband picked this place and scored high points because it was the best gelato we had in Rome. The views are incredible, because it's directly across from the Colosseum and right next to the gladiators training ground. We sat on the retaining wall and took in the views next to us, imagining gladiators in training and running through tunnels to reach the main arena floor. But back to the gelato. I had the coffee and pistachio gelato on a cone. The texture was very smooth and the flavors were incredible. My husband ordered 4 flavors and enjoyed his cone as well.

Best gelato I've ever tasted. We got 3 mediums and it was €9 total. We got chocolate chip, hazelnut, black cherry, Nutella and biscotti. All of them were amazing. We'll be going back tonight

DO NOT go to this place they completely rip you off , $15 for a gelato is unacceptable . They rip off foreigners.

DO NOT go to this place they rip you off . $15 for a gelato no way .. please so somewhere else where they don't take advantage of you .

Very good gelato, would recommend. Be careful of the berry one, SUPER potent. The standard chocolate and vanilla were excellent.

The gelato was pretty good but on bland side. Food near the Colosseum seems to not be as good as in some of the other neighborhoods.

One of the best gelateria places in Rome. They also sell yummy cannolis. Worth checking out. Across from the Colosseo.

Legendary Roman Ice Cream…read more * * * La Romana has been around since 1947. That does not make it the oldest gelateria by a long shot. But 1947 puts La Romana in the "senior class" for sure. That means almost 50 years of driving thousands of people insane with pleasure from utterly amazing ice cream. That is a good way to spend 50 years. * * * Most Italian Gelato places are very consistent. If one flavor is good, they all are good. If one flavor is fake or artificial, they all are fake and artificial. That said - despite La Romana's full range, The establishment is known for one distinctive flavor that is very much their signature. Crema dal 1947. Crema dal 1947 is absolutely and utterly insane. It is an eggnog custard gelato subtly flavored with lemon zest. It is the most creamy dreamy lemon cloud dessert every made by any human being. Just to get an appropriate placement within the lemon family, I paired it with a plain lemon gelato. Rome has absolutely amazing lemons. Plain lemon gelato almost anywhere is die-and-go-to-heaven good. Putting eggnog custard creamy dream Crema dal 1947 With bracing in-your-face screaming lemon-lemon-lemon traditional gelato Was like pairing Margot Robbie as Barbie with Amy Winehouse singing her soul out. Both were absolutely perfect for what they are. I want to have that ice cream cone tonight, tomorrow, the day after that, the day after that and every other consecutive day for the next consecutive 50 years. When La Romana becomes 100 years old, I can think about changing flavors. But it is hard to argue with perfect perfection.

Today, on my walk toward Neptune's Fountain, I passed this little gelato shop--Gelateria La…read moreRomana--and kept going. But I stopped in my tracks because I saw a line wrapped up 50+ people deep, all waiting just to get inside and order. Now it's day two in Rome and I still hadn't had any gelato, even though I've walked past what feels like a hundred shops. So what would a fat man from Alabama do? Turn right back around, of course--because nothing says "this is probably good" like a crowd stacked up like cordwood waiting for ice cream. I finally make it up to the counter and the young guy looks at me and says in English, "What do you want?" Well... I can't pronounce half of what I'm looking at, so I just show him a picture of his own menu I had snapped a minute earlier. He smiles, reads it out loud, and then asks, "What size?" At that point my brain is a mess, so I mumble "medium" and point at the cup sitting by the register. One problem down. Then I move into the next line--about a dozen people ahead of me--and when it's finally my turn again, I just point at my receipt like, "It's on there somewhere, I think." I can't read Italian, so I'm fully operating on faith at this point. The guy looks up and says, louder this time: "What flavor?" Flavor? That was not the question I was prepared for. So I point back at the picture again and say, "Whatever that is... I want that one." He scoops it up, loads it into the cup, and sends me on my way. Now comes the real test--taste it--but there are people everywhere, so I grab a quick photo first, because priorities. First bite? Hallelujah. That was the moment. That gelato hit and I just kept walking down the sidewalk like a man who somehow figured out how to survive ordering ice cream in Italy. Seriously, it was excellent. And if I get turned around again like today, I already know where I'm going back.
