We left pizza forum and walked right next door to Costanza, not very large place. Line was out the door but moved swiftly. I'm not big on sweets but when in Rome... u know the rest. One scoop or two is the same price so get two. I tried the coconut and another type that contained some alcohol in it don't recall the Italian name. The best gelato we found in Italy! It was voted best in Rome. Staff is friendly and speaks some English. If you can speak to them in Spanish, they can understand you pretty well. It's a small shop with no room to sit inside. There are plenty of places to sit just outside the door. The gelato is reasonably priced and you get a HUGE amount. We paid about $5 euros for 4 scoops on a cone. We're thought that they were going to be small scoops, but we were wrong.... The taste is AMAZING!! So delicious that we went back the next day to get seconds. Very creamy and flavorful and the flavors are very rich. They let you sample flavors beforehand, they didn't tell us how many we could sample but we each tried one flavor. With so many flavor options it's difficult to choose! As an added bonus, the shop is located on a street directly facing the Colosseum. I loved the fact that we were enjoying authentic gelato with those magnificent views! We got mango slushes, pistachio and mango gelato, and my daughter also got a mix of two flavors that she enjoyed (can't recall the flavors right now). The BEST gelato in Rome!! My husband picked this place and scored high points because it was the best gelato we had in Rome. The views are incredible, because it's directly across from the Colosseum and right next to the gladiators training ground. I spotted this shop and it had the most tempting and delicious looking pastries in their windows. I ended up purchasing a box of desserts and it was all super delicious: 1) Dark chocolate mousse - my favorite of the selection. It was rich and creamy and just delicious. 2) White chocolate mousse - surprise with a hazelnut filling and lovely lemon peel. 3) Pistachio & Dark chocolate cake - so good! Polished this off pretty quickly the nuttiness of the pistachio 4) Chocolate Trio - layer of white chocolate, followed by hazelnut and then regular chocolate all atop a layer of a layer of cake. 5) Cannoli (large size) - was super good and crispy shell pastry with wonderful soft filing inside. Large was one big enough to split between two folks too! Cost averaged between €2.50 -€3.00 per pastry and absolutely well worth it for how delicious they tasted! The good thing about this gelateria is that you get a taste test. Even though you can only taste about 2 flavors, other places don't give you any taste tests at all. I've been to many gelaterias during our visits to Italy (too many in my husband's opinion)... I love this place because it's clean, the staff is nice, I've always felt welcome there... except for that one lady who was kind of rude, couldn't speak English and didn't make an effort to try and understand my questions, she didn't hide her frustration either. Anyway, that happened only once and I wouldn't trash this place just for one unpleasant interaction. Everybody has their bad days, right? Most importantly, the gelato is AMAZING! I've stopped trying to like pistachio ice cream a long time ago. They just never tasted good to me. I decided to give it a try there and it was DELICIOUS, especially with their chocolate truffle. I've had that combo pretty much every time we passed the gelateria, which is a lot as it's located on the same block as our Airbnb. Best of all, my sweet Italian addiction only cost me 2.5 euros per cone! I had gelato at fancier restaurants that charge more for a crumbly texture, not at all what gelato's supposed to be like. I just have to mention that this gelateria is located right next to the Colosseum so it's usually busy, but hey, I wouldn't waste my time and money at a restaurant that looks empty.
