I will say the biscotti was the main hero, as it had more flavor to it than your average cookie gelato. The cone was also delicious, the perfect vehicle for the gelato. I wish the scoops were a bit bigger, but the quality was there. Can't go wrong with this place!

The first time I went to Petrini was in May 2016 with my mom. It was at the end of our Europe trip,…read moreso we had had our fair share of great gelato and ice cream. At least, that's what we thought until we tried Petrini's gelato. Basically, their gelato has ruined me for any other gelato and ice cream. I dreamed about coming back for YEARS. I finally did that just last week while I was in Rome for three days. In fact, I went twice during my short stay! This time, we brought my sister and dad along. They agreed: Petrini's gelato is the best one we've had, overall. They have a great selection of flavors, from your standard pistachio to moringa. Their fruit-flavored gelatos are AMAZING. Also, the prices are so reasonable - anywhere from €2 to €4 (and that's for an obscene amount of gelato). It's definitely cheaper than the prices I paid for gelato in the center of the city. The cone for the first three sizes has the perfect taste and thickness - you don't have to worry about your cone getting too soggy. They use a different cone for the largest size, but I didn't like that as much. You also have the option to have your gelato topped with whipped cream, which I've only encountered in one other gelateria. My favorite flavors are the pistachio, crocante, and strawberry. I've had moringa, mango, and raspberry as well, and they were also great! I wouldn't say that Petrini has the most innovative flavors, but they nail all of the flavors they do offer. If the store isn't too busy, you can also try samples. If the store is busy, then you have to queue up to pay first before you can order your gelato. All in all, you can't go wrong by going to Petrini. The only wrong you can do is by NOT going to Petrini! I will continue to go back every time I'm in Rome, regardless of how far away I am. It's THAT good.

Expecting it to be there one year, I walked over to Piazza Navona and Gelateria Navona had evidently closed. I would then get gelato here and there. I then learned that Giolitti is a long standing gelateria and it's also in the historic center. I filed the name away in my head. Then, one day, I happened to walk right in front of it without even looking for it, so I went in. Giolitti is popular and it can be crowded. I'm going to say that I waited about 10 to 15 minutes. You pay at a counter first, deciding on what you want and how much of it, such as scoops and whether it will be in a cup or a cone. Once up at the counter, they don't rush you, which surprised me. I don't take that much time since I don't experiment much, but I still appreciate the courtesy. The price is roughly what everyone else in the historic center is charging. I always opt for the gelato it in a cup so you can "control" the dripping. The gelato - a mix of dark chocolate and two citrus flavors - was "molto buono." That said, just because it's so popular, I'm not going to downgrade Giolitti for it and complain about the crowds. You downgrade gourmet donut places in the U.S. where their fame has gone to their heads. There is also a spacious salon with nicer decor in which you can eat inside. At this point, Giolitti is really the only gelateria in Rome whose name I remember. I would gladly go back and I recommend it.
