This 70+ year old shopping mall can be found packed with shoppers, as it offers several major anchors and other popular businesses. Currently, anchor stores include: - Safeway - Home Depot - Walgreens - Burlington Coat Factory - Ross Others: Trader Joes, Sheng Kee Bakery, Target (small), Starbucks Originally named " Westlake Town & Country Shopping Center," it opened in April 1951. It has gone thru many changes and renovations. I think that's why it has a somewhat irregular design and layout. My job often brings me into this area, as the mall is surrounded by apartment buildings. It also has a plaza that's loaded with small restaurants along Southgate Ave. My last visit to Westgate was on a Saturday evening. As I waited to turn from John Daly Blvd onto Westgate Center Rd, it looked like I was about to drive into a sea of cars. The main road thru the mall was adorned by a canopy of white lights. Completely incomprehensible unless you're specifically from the 626, but this mall reminds me of a mix between the Santa Anita mall and the West Covina mall (during it's prime). Pretty bustling and lots of businesses that actually interest me. I think my only qualm is that everything is at a smaller scale and smaller store, like their Pop Mart and Miniso are markedly smaller with a smaller stock, so keep that in mind.

I drive a pickup truck, and I didn't have too many issues with parking. Drivers need to slow down and beware of pedestrians. People just seem to walk around the lot with no concern for traffic. The big issue for me was leaving the shopping center. There need more stopsigns to stop cross traffic. This would give drivers a chance to exit the mall lot safely. I observed cross traffic not using turn signals, so drivers have to wait. In general, an OK shopping plaza. I will return and explore it.

I decided it was best to park on the roof and take the escalator down to ground level.....right to the restaurant! While I was there, I walked around to see what the indoor mall was like. It's a nice shopping mall with a variety of shops, restaurants, and services. The North Mall has a huge "Dining Terrace" which includes an outdoor patio with fire pits. I like the hand washing area. I heard stories that the owners of the mall want to tear down the enclosed mall and build a mixed use open air mall. The plan is yet to be approved. I like Hillsdale Mall the way it is.

The good old days when life was much simpler and we weren't glued to cell phones, lol. I could've sworn I read somewhere a while back this place was sold, and it was going to be like a biotech/ apartment in like 5 years or so. I could be wrong. Like most malls now, it's mostly all about food. I believe they still do off the grid here every Tuesday. Finally when the googles where picked out & the prescription information was but in he said transitions couldn't be put on work googles & he called another lens crafters & they told him, yes it can be done but it takes longer to come in because it's a special order. I told him it could be done because the person who referred me was given that option . Googles came out the way I wanted them & I was happy.
