This 70+ year old shopping mall can be found packed with shoppers, as it offers several major anchors and other popular businesses. Currently, anchor stores include: - Safeway - Home Depot - Walgreens - Burlington Coat Factory - Ross Others: Trader Joes, Sheng Kee Bakery, Target (small), Starbucks Originally named " Westlake Town & Country Shopping Center," it opened in April 1951. It has gone thru many changes and renovations. I think that's why it has a somewhat irregular design and layout. My job often brings me into this area, as the mall is surrounded by apartment buildings. It also has a plaza that's loaded with small restaurants along Southgate Ave. My last visit to Westgate was on a Saturday evening. As I waited to turn from John Daly Blvd onto Westgate Center Rd, it looked like I was about to drive into a sea of cars. The main road thru the mall was adorned by a canopy of white lights. Park in lots or multi-level parking complex. It's a pretty large shopping center, and worth several visits.

Neat that they have a Quickly's that looks like it's untouched by time (portraits of cute Ulzzang style workers enjoying the drinks and food there), there's charging tables, and a good amount of eateries and options to get boba and snacks. Completely incomprehensible unless you're specifically from the 626, but this mall reminds me of a mix between the Santa Anita mall and the West Covina mall (during it's prime). Pretty bustling and lots of businesses that actually interest me. I think my only qualm is that everything is at a smaller scale and smaller store, like their Pop Mart and Miniso are markedly smaller with a smaller stock, so keep that in mind.

I drive a pickup truck, and I didn't have too many issues with parking. Drivers need to slow down and beware of pedestrians. People just seem to walk around the lot with no concern for traffic. The big issue for me was leaving the shopping center. There need more stopsigns to stop cross traffic. This would give drivers a chance to exit the mall lot safely. I observed cross traffic not using turn signals, so drivers have to wait. In general, an OK shopping plaza. I will return and explore it.

I decided it was best to park on the roof and take the escalator down to ground level.....right to the restaurant! While I was there, I walked around to see what the indoor mall was like. It's a nice shopping mall with a variety of shops, restaurants, and services. The North Mall has a huge "Dining Terrace" which includes an outdoor patio with fire pits. I like the hand washing area. I heard stories that the owners of the mall want to tear down the enclosed mall and build a mixed use open air mall. The plan is yet to be approved. I like Hillsdale Mall the way it is.
