This used to be a decent store, but they don't carry much worth buying. And the workers are incredibly rude and obnoxious. They pick and choose people, I guess when they don't like how they're dressed, and try to make some leave bags and purses on the floor by the door, but others they don't. The cashier demanded to see what was inside and it was my wallet. She wanted me to leave it at the front and I refused. It has all my identification and atm cards and cash. Pretty great selection of items. I loved that they went all out for Valentine's Day! They put a table out of a ton of flowers and gifts a few days before. It has the makings of a new version of "West Side Story"...the Battle of the Dollar Stores. You have the kimono-wearing Japanese gang wielding their plastic chopsticks from Daiso, and then you have the bandana-headed Latino gang holding up their plastic Jesus figurines from One Dollar Only. OK...so it may not have the cache of a Daiso or even an Ichiban Kan in Japantown, but this dollar store in the heart of the Excelsior district does have some great deals for the odds and ends you need to get for your house. It is interesting to see how different subcultures mold their versions of the dollar store. Whereas Daiso has Japanese knick-knacks that reflect the idiosyncrasies of that country's natives (...and I should know since I was born in Tokyo), One Dollar Only caters to the more ethnically mixed neighborhood in the Outer Mission, especially the Latin community. You can tell from the vast number of religious artifacts they sell...and they have lots of cornmeal and chili sauce, too. They also have quite a collection of curtain swags and tiebacks accented with big plastic flowers. But there are pleasures to be had here. One Dollar Only actually one-ups Daiso in selling disposable plastic containers for a dollar. And they sell real packages of food - not just rice crackers and ramen - all for a dollar a piece. You can also get kitchen utensils, batteries and all the real day-to-day stuff you need to survive urban guerrilla warfare. Why, they even sell little signs with nasty messages that you can hold up when another car cuts you off on the freeway. So take an adventure into this working-class neighborhood and buy yourself a scented candle with the Biblical quotes printed on it. You deserve it. read more

As of early 2022, most everything at this store is $1.50, so it's definitely been a while since it was truly "One Dollar Only". I know this was an old Woolworth's location from back in the day, but it looks and feels like this store hasn't tried to make itself look like a temporary storefront, even though they've been here for a few years. In general, I don't find the store too disorganized. However, don't expect anyone to help you find something there. Asthetics aside, I do enjoy wandering here occasionally to see what bargains can be found. Like many dollar stores, their inventory will change pretty frequently, so if you find something you like, realize it might not be there the next time you visit. Also, always double check expiration dates. You never know how long these products could have been sitting around or where it came from. My last package of Haribo gummy bears I bought from here was written in Turkish. read more

BEWARE of this location!!! Horrible experience at this location. My dad bought $8 worth of items, he paid $20, but got only $2 change. The pregnant woman cashier lied and said he gave a $10. That's impossible because my dad couldn't find a $10 in his wallet so he gave $20. They refuse to give him change; stealing money from a customer! Took my dads receipt and didn't even give that back either. The boss of the place said he will check his cameras, but my dad had to rush to work so this is impossible. They kept his money $10, and kept his receipt and sent him off. Basically my dad left with only his items purchased at over double the cost without proof of purchase. Ludicrous. Beware seniors and people whose not paying attention this pregnant cashier will rob you!!!! The boss of the place told my dad he will call, and if my dad is right he will have to drive back (waste gas money) to pick up his $10, but no calls or voicemail was received. The next day I returned with my father to find lo and behold the employee refusing my dad and telling him the boss is not there. I talked to the middle eastern employee that he said he wasn't there, and don't care about us or the situation. He said don't know don't care, go ahead and call the police, do whatever I wasn't here, I don't care, whatever...not my problem, I will NOT call the boss for you, you go call the police. The middle eastern man was rude, disrespectful, unprofessional and unwilling to help at all, as if he doesn't even work there. He just yelled at me, made a scene, embarrassed me for trying to get $10 back for my dad and extremely unhelpful. It's $10 that we don't care about, but it's about pride, and justice, and how my dad felt cheated on that matters. Robbing us of $10, then lied to us multiple times, refused us, embarrassed us, treated us with disrespect and then threatened us. This middle eastern man is either partial owner or relative of the boss here otherwise there is no way anyone would hire a failure like that to ruin their business. In the end we got the $10 back from the help of a Spanish/Mexican worker who demonstrated professionalism and clam collected attitude opposed to what the middle eastern man is like. The Chinese lady that works there also was helpful. The Spanish guy and the Chinese lady needs a raise while the middle eastern dude needs to be fixed. what a bad tempered employee. I thought he was going to hit me at one point. The Spanish guy called the boss but the boss didn't answer multiple calls, so he just handled it by just paying us back. Doesn't even make sense that we would come back to argue about $10 if it wasn't stolen from us. We even thought about not wasting time or effort to go back for $10. But then we would just let them get away with stealing and that is not right. If the Spanish worker didn't help me I would indeed contact police because they did indeed steal money from us. Please beware of this location and don't get cheated. Pay credit card if possible. Stand clear of some of these swindlers. Good luck shoppers. read more

And some people don't realize that some things like soap, first aid items, etc. can be found at local supermarkets or Walgreens for less. Also, u must read the labels to judge proper value. For example, their $1 rubbing alcohol is only 50% isopropyl alcohol, while the ones sold at Walgreens are 70%-90%. Only a few things seem like a good value for me. Like energy saving light bulbs, electronic cables, glassware, and some kitchen tools. For example, I bought a decent metal colander that I still use. I also like the multi-pack foam brushes, to use on touch up craft projects. AVOID any type of tape. All the masking/duct tape rolls are so old that the adhesive is now weak, so it falls off soon after application (it does stick to paper, but fails on everything else). AVOID most food items like large bags of chips (stale). Except for canned foods, drinks, and condiments, most food items are close to their expiration date and may already be rancid. If u are addicted to Mexican Coke in glass bottles, this is the cheapest place in the city to buy it ($1). But only available seasonally. read more

MOST items are $1.00 (as the store name implies), but some items are $1.25 (or more) But beware, some cashiers will try to slap on the $1.25 price tag to all your items, even if only one of your items is $1.25 and the rest are $1.00 each. I bought my items via a Hispanic-White female cashier and had one item listed as $1.25 clearly, and two other items that seemed to be $1.00. When I paid for my items, I thought that the $1.25 item would be $1.75 or some other price, but apparently all 3 of my items were $1.25 each. I don't mind much if they have to increase their prices to pay for their expenses, but if most of their items are $1.25 each now, can they at least place a poster on the store front about it? It will help the store NOT get sued by some angered customers later. read more

I was shopping at this store like I usually do. I was going to pick up some snack bags. There are always signs to tell people not to open the boxes which I completely agree and am happy to comply with the rules. I saw there was one box which was already open and the bags was already hanging outside the box. So I checked the bag real quick to see if It's the right size and put it back. About 5 minutes later, I was about to check out, the gentlemen came to me and say "Don't open it!" I told him I didn't open any of the boxes, that box was already open! Then he said I pulled it out from the box. But I just grabbed one that was already outside the box! The funny part is if he saw me doing that why didn't he come to me right away? And he already assumed I was the one who opened it!? Feel free the check the camera, Sir. You should also take down any open boxes ASAP from the shelf to avoid any misunderstanding like this. I think the owner remembers my face, which just shows how much I frequent here whenever I feel like taking a walk. Actually, come to think of it, I always drop by One Dollar Only right after I pick up my books from the Excelsior Branch library. Things I repeatedly find myself purchasing: school supplies like college-ruled notebooks, white-out, a pack of ten different colored sharpies, and so forth. I've gotten other random stuff in the past such as photo frames, a Spongebob Squarepants tin can piggy-bank (I'm truly a kid at heart), cotton balls, the list just goes on and on. And true to its words, each item costs ONE DOLLA! (only) Sure, there are times I get useless things that I later asks myself, "WHY?What were you thinking?", but I have no regrets. They've recently moved. The new location is still on Mission, but a few blocks closer to Ocean Ave. They took over the failing furniture business, which was a store or two away from Payless. There's also another dollar store specifically named One Dollar Only in Daly City. The owner (same as the Mission one) saw me and said, "Hey, nice to see you at this location too".... This is by far one of the best dollar stores around in San Francisco where everything is a dollar. One must use their discretion in making their purchases. If one comes here to find high quality items such a person is mistaken and should avoid going to any dollar stores. They have a good variety of earrings, children's crafts and coloring books, stationary, housewares, and knick knacks. I'm a sucker for Dollar stores - and this is one of my favorites. Again, located near my mama's house, I can just walk down the busy mission street and see what they have. Parking is a biznach thou - so just be aware. I'm also a sucker for Disney everything - and Disney things they have galore! I scored some really cute princess hand towels (that don't look cheap) and some other trinkets for party favors. Before buying anything at target, I make a quick stop here to see what they got first. On 8/12/18 I had to drive around the block three times to find parking then got to the door at 6:56 (I only needed one thing) they were shutting off the lights as I tried the door and whoever was working gave me the throat cut gesture. If you're not going to be open during your open hours then change your hours. I just wasted fifteen minutes driving over here. This place is great! I was pleasantly surprised at the range of goods they carry. If you want very inexpensive XMAS decorations, gift bags, etc., then this is the place to go! We needed to buy 60 mugs for as a small gift for a party. We found decent holiday themed mugs. We asked if they had them boxed which they did and ended up buying two boxes for 72 mugs. Blame my old roommate Jeff for turning me on to the dollar stores at 16th & Mission when I lived down there a few years back. Since then, each time I move, I have to find the local dollar store. Having just moved back to SF and landed in Diamond Heights, I (of course) consulted yelp first. I found this place and it's a pretty good one. It's decent sized, parking's not too bad on the street, the people who work there are very nice and there is good variety of products. L.A. people will know the "99 Only Store," the valhalla of the dollar/99 stores. It's not quite at that level but I found "One Dollar Only" to be pretty good. read more

This location use to be on Excelsior street, but they probably moved for a larger building. Nonetheless, most of the stock here hasn't changed since their inception. They carry all sorts of off brand items and plastic cooking utensils that you're otherwise pay up to three or four times at big box stores like Target or Safeway. Most of the snacks here can be hit or miss, but if you've had snacks from a brand you trust, it's probably closer to the expiration day then you'd like it to be. Most if the cashiers are very efficient and usually know where everything is. I've never had a problem finding what I need, but more than half the time, they don't even have it. read more

This dollar store is the bomb. Now don't expect high quality items but c'mon now its a dollar. They have decent painting supplies and a wide variety of cups and glasses. Throwing a party? This is the perfect place to find everything you need while saving a lot of money. The clerks may have limited english skills but they have way better customer service than the dollar tree in Daly City where they speak full english. I especially like going here for helium filled balloons. Only bad thing is the parking situation, but then again that is dverywhere. Now want some better quality items? Cool dollar store, its ok and a good area

If I could give zero stars I would. As my mother and I were shopping, my five year old daughter had to use the bathroom. When I asked, two employees directed me to "Sahir" or "Sahid" for the keys. When I asked him, he looked at my daughter and said it was broken. I told him it was an emergency and to please let her use the bathroom but he still refused stating it was broken. You could clearly see he wasn't being honest. As I was running out the door with my little girl, he shouted to one of the employees that the bathroom wasn't for customers, only employees. We ran across the street where the employees of a taqueria allowed her to use the ladies room. I went back to the store to get my mother but told "Sahir" that he should be ashamed to deny a child the use of a bathroom. He shouted to me that it was broken and demanded if I was calling him a liar. I told him that I didn't believe him. He said to talk to the owner, I told him to call the owner but he refused. I went to look for my mother so we could leave this store. As I was looking for her, two employees asked if he had unlocked the bathroom, I said he did not, stating he said it that it was broken. They shook their head in disbelief. I will definitely not be returning to this store. So much for supporting your local neighborhood stores when they don't care about taking care of their neighborhood customers, all they want is the money that we can bring in but not a neighborly relationship. read more

Great dollar store. Lots of cheap things that people actually use in everyday life. Quality is hit and miss. I saw some things that are good quality and some are not that good like misshaped items but that is expected. Lots of office supplies, paint brushes, cups, vases, containers, soup, shampoos, even food and soda (although I wouldn't want to try). They even have dvds (cheap knockoffs). Overall very happy with this store but 1 star off for parking since its in a fairly crowded area. read more
