The flounder francese was excellent.. My husband had the chicken mixed with mushrooms, ( a variety) and port wine reduction, he said it was the best. Veggies are always fresh, no canned veggies or frozen veggies here... We have been coming here for years... We are from the Toms River area, so that says a lot... staff is always friendly... Atmosphere is warm... great cappuccino!!!!! ...and BYOB....so your wine bill is never more than the entire meal......Wish we had a restaurant like this in TR.. read more

A very good Italian resturaunt. A little small but good food and good service.

This restaurant/event venue is magnificent! Just celebrated my daughter's 18th birthday this past Saturday and the food was delicious, hot and PLENTY of food is served. The service was impeccable, waiters are friendly, have a smile on and cater to you. This is a BYOB restaurant and Gelone was very helpful in providing ice, glasses and chilling the white wine for us. Wait staff was very attentive, even packaged food to go since there was so much food. I would definitely return again! Enjoy! read more

I went to this place for my birthday because the reviews were good, it seemed reasonably priced, & it's BYOB. Well the reviews were right because the food was great. We ordered a bunch of appetizers, tender friend calamari, refreshing seafood salad, tasty stuffed mushrooms, and I didn't get to taste the avocado salad or oysters but the other end of the table loved everything also. For an entree I had the risotto special with shiitake mushrooms, zucchini, clams, shrimp, & scallops. Risotto was cooked just right and I am not a big fan of scallops but they were so tender and cooked right. I could not finish all of them and shared some which everyone who had them said the same. Desert was ok I had an apple crumb slice of pie. We had plenty of our own wine and I mean plenty & also some sambuca for our espresso. The wait staff were very nice and patient with are group and the decor was simple but fine. We sat in a room with three other larger tables which was great so we could all be loud without having to feel like we were bothering anyone haha. I did not seethe bill but for 11 of us it was very cheap and we were all very satisfied. My family and I are actually going back this weekend and hope we have the same great experience. read more

Went for the first time for Christmas Eve dinner. This family owned restaurant is a great find. Hot and cold appetizers arrived quickly and portions were generous. Same with the dinners. Had the best experience at Gelone's tonight, the food was excellent and the service was simply perfect. This little restaurant has a lot of character and we didn't just have one waiter, every waiter or waitress that came by our table asked us if we needed anything and the big plus BYOB. A very good BYO Italian restaurant. All in our group of 5 enjoyed their food. With appetizers my husband had octupus and unlike many restaurants there was a huge portion and it was very good. I had a Caesar salad that was tasty but nothing amazing. Very few restaurants truly make a great Caesar salad. The entrees ranges from chicken parm to seafood specials. All were good. There are a ridiculous amount of BYO Italian restaurants in NJ so why one is better than another comes with other factors to me. This place offered great service with a pleasant atmosphere. The negative was it was loud with a packed room. If you are in this area or live near it I would say give it a try. It is reasonably priced as well. read more

Best Italian restaurant I've been to, best calamari I've ever had in my life, it was so tender and so crispy! Everything we ordered from the veal to the bolognese was just amazing and good portion size, and even though we were stuffed after dinner, we couldn't resist the limoncello, spumoni, and tiramisu for dessert! The service and ambience is very good; food well presented. Fried calamari - skip it; Chicken Francaise, tender; Pasta Bolognese - good, but I've had better; Veal with Mushrooms in a Wine sauce, great sauce,too many mushrooms. Pasta with vodka sauce, very good. Almond cake - terrific!! My favorite was the Sambuca that was served with espresso. It is made in house, and is the smoothest and most flavorful I've ever tasted. While the fool was good, they really do not appreciate having repeat business. We tried to make a reservation for a Saturday night and were told that they do not make reservations for a Saturday because they have enough business and do not need to take reservations, but they would be happy to accommodate us on a Sunday when they are not as busy. When we told them that most of the group were repeat guests, they basically told us that they didn't really care. read more

We were there just yesterday. A recommendation from the hotel concierge staff. We are vegetarians. Had the bruschetta as an appetizers. Awesome. Even my 6 year old son loved it. We then had the pesto pasta and the risotto. The Risotto tasted very good but was very buttery. The pesto was awesome. The concierge staff had specifically recommended pesto and it was awesome. I FINALLY took Michelle C's advice & made it to Gelone, and I'm so glad we did! Really liked the overall vibe of the restaurant immediately. Just enough "class" without going overboard. Our waiter, Scott, was a total doll and within moments of us sitting down came by to pour wine, introduce himself, offer suggestions, etc. We ordered the fried calamari & spinach salad w/goat cheese and cranberries to start with. Both were excellent. I'll go as far as to say it was one of the best salads I've ever had at any restaurant. We had trouble deciding what to order for entrees, so b/c it was my BF's bday, we decided to go a little wild. I ordered chicken Gelone, he ordered gamberoni monte e mare and we split a 1/2 order of farfalle siciliane. The ricotta on the last dish mentioned was absolutely perfect (and I'm not a huge fan of ricotta cheese)...also, it was in the center of the dish, so it could be avoided if necessary. As for the entrees, they were definitely good, but I wouldn't call them mind-blowing. Each came with 1/2 baked potato and some vegetables, which I really enjoyed, but I can see how some people wouldn't waste stomach room on them. If I had to describe this restaurant in one word it would be AMAZING!!!!! My husband found this restaurant while looking online for somewhere new to eat and I have to say I'm definitely NOT disappointed! It's a BYOB so you can eat here at an extremely reasonable price. Our first visit we had the stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer....which were awesome! I ordered the Farfalle Siciliana and my husband had the pollo alla Chris......both delicious!!! We also both had dessert (cannoli & tiramisu) and a coffee and with no room to spare our bill was about $60.......so reasonable!! We went to Gelone again this past weekend and we had two appetizers and both had the filet mignon special. I was completely impressed when our meal came to the table and saw that they gave us each TWO filets...this was a $30 special! Again, another delicious meal! First impression is everything to me and the staff here is beyond friendly and you will feel like family as soon as you walk through the door. I would recommend making a reservation since it is a smaller restaurant and even though they have two dining rooms, they fill up quickly. I will def. be coming here again and again.......my new favorite! read more
